The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. We’re currently in the building/restoring process, but we’ll have some electrical, drinking water, fire pits, plenty of shade, compost toilets, water in the river, and plenty of good vibes.  Old Herrera Ranch has been in our family since the early 1800's and holds a lot history. A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River. The patio is lighted with cafe lights. One of the RV slips is covered, while the other is nestled under a charming burr oak tree. On-site, we also offer a rental cabin. The covered RV slip is equipped with 30 and 50 amps, the other hookup is 50 amp, both have their own water and clean out connections. Both RV slips are on grass/dirt, and the entrance/exit is grass and dirt. *****IF IT RAINS heavily while you are here, please use the paved driveway to exit the property as you may get stuck in the grass at the big double gate.***** Our property uses rain water recapture. Please conserve water when you can when cooking, washing up and cleaning. No washing of cars or RVs is allowed. Please note that there might be other guests staying on the property during your visit. Kindly be considerate of noise levels and how it may impact the experience of fellow guests. You may also be sharing amenities such as the grill, deck, outdoor kitchen, and games court. We welcome dogs, but it is your responsibility to manage their interactions with other guests' pets. Due to potential gaps or larger openings in the fencing, we recommend keeping your dog on a leash. The owners live on the far side of the property. Boulderdash is quite amazing! We usually camp in tent campsites because we have a tiny camper, and we don't like to be among huge RVs. Boulderdash is a quite small campground but the design is great and RVs do not face each other and are not lined up, so everybody has privacy. We stayed for the first two nights in the RV site 3, and for the last night we moved to tent site 1 by the river. The tent campsites are the best for who likes nature. While they don't have water or power at the campsite itself, they have a great outdoor washing area with potable water, electricity and a picnic table. There's a port-a-potty besides the bathrooms on the hilltop. Our campsite had a fire ring, a grill, a great picnic table, and you're steps from the river. Water was pretty low but it was running because there are some springs that feed into it. Everything at Boulderdash is well thought out, the bathrooms are super clean and cute, shower is FANTASTIC! Every picnic table has a flower arrangement and a jar of corn to feed the deer, and a small shop. Wi-fi made camping bearable to our teenage daughter. Also fantastic are the hosts: Carole-Anne is super friendly, and received us with a pumpkin bread that she baked to all campers who were there on thanksgiving. That really set the tone right. She was super accommodating to our requests, and is just an overall nice person. Their dogs and cats are super sweet, as are the deer that come every day to get sone corn. We had a wonderful time!

My fiancé asked to go camping for her birthday, and we settled on this place. We showed up in the dark to our tent sight because she wanted to get her hair done that day also (don't ask), and because we weren't familiar with the area, we asked a local sheriff's deputy for directions. He told us where to go, but we accidentally ended up in sight 7 instead of 1 (our fault, it was dark). We realized our mistake the next morning and called the front desk, and they were incredibly kind. We insisted we'd pack up and move, but they didn't care, as nobody else had site 7 booked. We enjoyed a great time of calm walking trails and lovely scenery. My fiancé had never seen a ring-tailed cat, but we saw one fight over a tree with a couple squirrels! (Fun to watch for me). Long story short, this is a great, calm place for RV, camper, and tent sites. Btw, site 7 for tents is the best one. It has a table, water spicket, porta-potty (very clean), and is right next to a trail entrance.

This place is almost paradise. The only thing missing is water in the river, not the property's fault though, and any separation of space between RVs. I enjoyed everything about Alamo River. The location is remote and quiet. The paths were very open and well kept. The staff is awesome. The cleanliness of the park is immaculate. The stars above were incredible. My neighbor's were great. Checking in and extending was incredibly easy...I could go on but you know you need to book already!!

I really enjoyed my stay on Sara's land. There's a road along the campground with intermittent traffic, but despite that, it was quiet and peaceful, even more so at night- exactly what I was looking for. The seating/picnic area next to my campsite was clean and inviting. Deer walked through the campground, which was lovely to see! Sara is a courteous host. I look forward to my next stay.

LAF Ranch felt like a little hidden gem of Texas. My wife and I ventured out here for a night. We had planned to go to Lost Maples to see the fall colors but decided not to go after seeing the beautiful bald cypress trees by the creek at LAF Ranch. The colors were stunning and the weather was beautiful, we had the whole Big Open campsite to ourselves so it felt like our own little oasis. Thanks to Fritz for providing access to such a wonderful location, and for being such a pleasant host! We’ll definitely be back!
