The cabin itself was built using rough sawn wood acquired from a local sawmill. Many of the items used in the cabin came from local shops or antique stores. There is a 2000-watt Solar Generator in the cabin that can be used for lights, charging cell phones, and running the pump for the shower. The Solar Panels are enough to charge the Generator to 100% each day. Rainwater is used for showers. The gutter system on the cabin is used to catch rainwater. The downspout runs into a "First Flush Diverter", which allows any dust, dirt, or anything else that might land on the roof between the rainstorms to be diverted away from the water storage tank. The clean rainwater then fills the water storage tank. Be aware that Rainwater is fine for showers, but is not meant for drinking. Propane is connected to a space heater and the shower. The space heater is 17,000 BTUs, which is plenty for colder nights. The shower has an at-source water heater and can heat the water up to 120 degrees, which is more than enough for a hot shower. A porta potty is provided for bathroom purposes and is cleaned and restocked every Thursday. Pets are allowed! The following items are provided: 1. Linens 2. Towels 3. There is plenty of room for the fire pit, vehicles, animals, and any outdoor games you might want to bring (cornhole). Both Bryson City and Franklin are fairly close to the cabin. Bryson City is approximately 20 minutes away, while Franklin is approximately 30 minutes away. Both towns offer great little downtown areas that have shopping and restaurants. Don't be afraid to try the food trucks, they have some of the best food. Bryson City has many trails for hiking such as the Road to nowhere, Noland Divide Trail, Three Waterfalls Loop (FYI: There are three waterfalls on this trail), and Deep Creek Waterfall Loop. The fishing in Bryson City is also great and the guided trips are very reasonably priced. I would suggest going in the morning and doing a float trip. Franklin is bigger and a little more spread out than Bryson city, but there are a lot of neat little stores and restaurants. I personally like going to the Currahee Brewing Company. Currahee is right on the river and is set up to host live bands and it gets pretty lively in the late afternoons and evenings on the weekends. Other things to note One of the things you would want to bring is a 1 lb propane bottle for the Torch that is provided. Using the torch to start a fire is much easier than kindling. The solar generator has enough power to run the small coffee pot if you don't want to use the percolator. The generator also has enough power to run hair dryers. The main thing you want to keep in mind is anything that uses a heating element will drain the battery quickly. Lanterns are provided If needed. Overall, you should be good to go, but it is something to keep in mind.

We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling. Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood. You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7. Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more. Whether it’s the absence of electricity (in the cabin), the quiet of the country, no city glow in the night sky, or the once common experience of the natural world dominating over human-made or human-crafted things, it’s astonishing for many of us to see and feel and experience without constant communications via text and email and the distractions of modern life. Many people write that they’ve learned an enormous amount about themselves, about homesteading or permaculture, and about alternate ways of being. Named after Paint Rock and the Cherokee Paint Rock Clan (the healers and medicine clan of the Cherokee) Paint Rock is a peaceful private farm encompassing 30 acres of meadow and 130 acres of private conservation forest, adjacent to the French Broad River and surrounded by national forest. A restored barn offers all guests a space to gather, relax, enjoy meals together or meet new friends around the fire. Guests have access to the community kitchen inside the barn, large community fire pit, heated bathhouse, outdoor showers, and miles of meadow and forest trails to explore. We are located 7 miles from the town of Hot Springs, famous for a natural hot spring spa and a plethora of outdoor adventures including the spectacular Appalachian Trail. Several dining options are also available in the area.

Easy to reach campsite in the woods! Fall asleep in your own tent to the soothing sound of clear mountain water rushing in nearby creek. Wake up to glorious songbirds and relax al fresco on your private patio. Campfire allowed--just be mindful that it is completely out before going to sleep or leaving the site. Camper's toilet & sink available. Will need to provide your own potable water. You will be near a small private cemetery owned by the host. Neighbors have hens close by; we ask you to keep your dog leashed. Please keep food and trash in vehicle overnight to keep wildlife away. Kindly pack out your trash (and recyclables) at the end of your stay. Only 10 minutes away from the Blue Ridge Parkway with its stunning views and scenic hiking. For that small-town fun and funky experience, head 10 minutes in the other direction to Sylva--home of microbreweries, organic farmer's market, cool shops, award-winning restaurants, and various homespun curiosities. Half hour from Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Cherokee Indian Reservation, and Cherokee Casino. All-new tubing on the river only 1 mile away! Asheville is 45 minutes away. Weekend Trip to Quiet Forest On The Creek

I absolutely enjoyed my stay!! the cabin was exactly what I needed. I brought my air mattress a little buddy heater, and I was good to go!!! I enjoyed having a fire before laying down in the cabin and I usually have to sleep with a fan going due to the noise but with the creek right next to the cabin it was perfect. Definitely a place that I’ll keep coming back to.

Excellent property for a quiet secluded getaway, reasonable access to Lake Santeetlah. The accommodations were welcoming, easy drive up access to the site complimented a short decent to the cabin. Grounds were well maintained and all amenities were available to entertain. The privvy was well setup and thought out for access and privacy.

3 nights at Mountain Creek Rest

This was our second time at Brian’s land, first we stayed at heartstone and this time at diamondstone! Both sites are extremely well maintained and you can feel the care that goes into both. The cabin itself was so cozy and the covered porch was a nice addition anytime it would rain. Another highlight is the small swimming hole in the creek! It feels surreal to take a midday splash in the mountain stream. Thank you so much Brian for sharing this extremely special piece of the forest! Can’t wait to be back again :)

A great location to be close to Sylva, Cherokee, and a 45 minute drive to Asheville. Comfortable, quiet location to get away in nature. So glad we brought our tatami mat, made our stay comfortable and homey. Loved using the grill for breakfast in the mornings and sitting on the porch at night!

My stay at Natanhala Cabins exceeded expectations. I stayed during the week, the first week in September. I was able to enjoy coffee on the porch and got to nature bathe amongst the beautiful tall trees. The cabin had everything for my family and I. We loved it. I hope to be back soon! Already shared with my family. We loved the private hot tub.

5 nights at Paint Rock Farm Glamping

Paint Rock Farm is a serene place to spend time and disconnect. My cabin (#6) was just right with a comfortable bed, a nice little porch overlooking the French Broad, and the sounds of the river and nature constantly. The barn and full kitchen there were such a nice option, so feel free to bring your groceries knowing that there are two full size refrigerators with freezers. The bath house was spotless and I really appreciated the outdoor showers on the back of the building. William is a great host. The property is well groomed with a few trails. I even glimpsed a bright orange Koi in the pond in the forest. If you’re looking for quiet, comfort, and peace, you’ve found your place.

Taylor is very quick to answer texts, everything was as described. Cute camping cabin. Porta potty was clean and not scary at all, our dogs loved the room to roam, the creek, and the pond. Site is central to the mountains and Knoxville, loads of hiking and lake access nearby, town is just minutes away with all the trappings.

Absolutely wonderful location, completely secluded. The pond with ducks was lovely. It was nice to be the only people on 20 acres. I would recommend staying here anytime. The serenity of the absolute silence is amazing.

We really Enjoyed the Sunflower Cabin, and her campground overall. It was very nice how every campground is super private and all you can see around it is just the woods. I'll definitely be coming back in the future!

1 night at Twin Valley Horse Ranch

Everything is a close walk, the creek/lake is pretty central to everything and it has plenty of fish. Although the fish seem to only bite for meat not artificial bait. Once you have meat on the hook you can see them show up in groups for it. All the animals were friendly, or at least curious about us and gentle with our toddler. July makes it too hot and too mosquito-ee to get out and enjoy the trails but the land was beautiful and have no cell service preventing those never ending work calls and emails was amazing as well.

We loved the cabin! It's very remote and not a cabin like "glamping" it's a cabin tent but with a shelter (what we wanted). Although there is 2 other tent sites that Brian has, there was one other camper there but we didn't even know that the were there! (with the creek sound, it's very loud but peaceful) 100% would recommend if you're into relaxing, a peaceful setting, looking at the stars or just getting away!

The ranch was beautiful and expansive with lots of amazing animals! The cabin was definitely roughing it. A small shack up a deep hill. Be prepared to go full on caveman for this one! I had a great time! Hope to see Janice again :)

This campground was so beautiful. Secluded, each camper has total privacy, but host made sure to give us contact info in case we needed something or in a pinch. If you are going to car camp in the Smokies- this place is for you and it's away from all the crazy tourism of some of the surrounding areas while still being smack dab in the center of gorgeous mts. Unbeatable value for the campsite.

We really liked the cabin and its rustic yet contemporary feel. However, it seems like it wasn’t intended for use during Tennessee summers where it can be 80+ degrees inside at night. There was a propane heater which I imagine would make this a really cozy place in colder months but obviously we didn’t need it for our stay. The fans & power bank that the host provides plus having the windows opened helped but it was still uncomfortable.

We loved our little cabin. It was very clean. Everything you needed. Nothing you didn’t. Air-conditioning worked well refrigerator was the perfect size for a weekend getaway. Property is in a perfect location between town and NOC.
