If walking isn't your thing, you are welcome to drive around (4wd recommended) to go scout out where you'd like to set up camp for the night. If you'd prefer the comfort of additional shelter, you are welcome to park and/or set yourself up at the barn instead (which is a little closer to the main road). There is power to the barn - providing light, 30AMP power for RV hookup, as well as an electrical receptacle that you can run your extension chords from. For the extra adventurous - you may want to take a hike up "Thornbush Trail," which follows the ridge right up the middle of the property and has beautiful views of both meadows to either side. Or, for a more direct route, take a walk right up our dirt access road to the upper ridge, where you can peek through the treeline for beautiful elevated views eastward toward Columbia. Our treehouse (in progress) is located right at the top of the access road. Though the treehouse has not yet been completed, feel free to climb the 20' ladder up the inside of the hollowed out trunk and pop your head out the top! It sure makes a great photo! Come back to the barn area in the evening to lounge in the hammock, hang out around the picnic table, or cook dinner and roast some marshmallows over the wood burning fire pit with cooking grill attachment (fireside tools & 1 bundle of firewood provided). One filtered and cooled 5 gallon portable Igloo water cooler will also be provided and placed on the picnic table outside the barn. One rolling 96 gallon covered trash bin will be placed inside the barn (please bag your trash). "Luggable Loo" portable compost toilet is also available for use inside the barn. Tho cell & wifi are spotty here on the farm, we will provide one walkie talkie during your stay for direct communication with the main residence, should there be any issues or needs that arise. We've stayed here several times, and love it - is a sprawling, ramshackle farm that is a great place to spend the night camping with our trailer with our dogs. There's one or two campsites with electric and water hookups (that you may or may not be able to find) The land is somewhat unimproved with lots of mud and ruts and junk and holes (be careful). There are cars and campers strewn about. The pigs are very friendly 😁 We saw a family of bobcats crossing Eatons Creek road out front. It's SO close to downtown and the development is encroaching closer and closer - we hope it will stay wild and undeveloped forever.

Great area to explore and thankful for a safe location to park the rv with hookups. Jenny and Tim made everything feel like home. They were closeby and helpful when needed however allowed for privacy . The dogs were able to explore the field and be a little feral in nature.

Weekend Trip to Chatty Heifer Farm

My partner and I made a last minute decision to go camping when our schedules changed. Patti was extremely friendly and communicative immediately when we made our reservation. I really enjoyed hearing from her. The campsite is not very far from Nashville and was a perfect getaway. The campsite has three guard dogs that are SUPER sweet. They were very playful with our 1 and 1/2 year old German Shepherd (who still thinks he’s, like, a 6 month old). We also felt very happy that these dogs were guarding us during the night. The road is somewhat close to the campsite but it didn’t have heavy traffic. This site was perfect for the three of us looking at a short, impromptu night away from home! The creek and birds were lovely to wake up to and we came home the next day cheerful and relaxed. We were at Site 2, but Site 3 also seemed great for a larger group.

Weekend Trip to Chatty Heifer Farm

We thoroughly enjoyed our night camping at site #3! Our 3 crazy kids had a blast exploring the creek & running around the large field, while our dog enjoyed making friends with several of the sweet farm dogs. Patti was an excellent host & did a wonderful job communicating all of the information related to our stay. We look forward to returning in the future!

2 nights at Historic Log Cabin

A charming little cabin on a beautiful property! I stayed here with my three dogs, and they loved having the space to roam freely. The cabin was cozy and comfortable, and the modern bathroom was a nice touch. Both the main room and the bathroom have their own window unit. Keith was wonderful to chat with, a friendly and welcoming host.

I only needed a place to park for a couple of nights, but the setting was perfect; private, flat, solid ground to park on, fire ring, chairs, water, etc. all exactly as Matthew described, and communication with the host was prompt, detailed and easy. If I'm back in the area I will 100% camp here again.

Loved Lost Acres so much! Vinnie gave us a great tour of his favorite places on the property, and he was so, so accommodating and helpful. The property is super nice and private, but it's also very close to a Dollar General in case you forget something. Will definitely be keeping this site on our camping rotation!

Where to go

Edgar Evins State Park

This Tennessee park has everything you need in a camping destination, from lush wooded trails to a beautiful reservoir. Center Hill Lake has options for boating and fishing, and the scenic water can be enjoyed from the hikes that wrap around it. You can reserve one of the 60 campsites, which are elevated on wooden platforms. This park is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Nashville, and it’s also a great place to view wildlife, including bald eagles, hawks, and other local species.

Three Cedars of Lebanon State Park

Named after its stunning cedar forest, Three Cedars of Lebanon is a wooded park under an hour’s drive from downtown. Here, hikers will find unique features to explore, including rock gardens, sinkholes, creeks, butterfly gardens, rare plants, and more. RV and tent campers here have access to grills, bathhouses with flush toilets, electrical hookups, and even heated showers. This is also a dog-friendly park, though dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.

Bledsoe Creek State Park

With over six miles of hiking trails, 57 primitive campsites, and a wide creek to enjoy, this recreation area is about a forty-five minute drive from Nashville in the nearby town of Gallatin. Take note that swimming isn’t allowed here, but know that you can rent paddle boards or kayaks directly from the park. Another option is to simply sit back and enjoy the birds that migrate through the area. There are three ADA compliant campsites and a wheelchair-accessible path.

When to go

Summer is a great time to visit Nashville, as you’ll get the warm weather and can take advantage of all the best swimming and boating activities. However, fall is also a great time to enjoy the changing leaves, and spring can be a nice time to enjoy blooming flowers and smaller crowds. The winter can be a nice time to visit if you’re planning on staying in an RV with hookups, or in a cabin where you can enjoy creature comforts, as it can snow in Nashville (though you won’t see heavy pileup).

Unlike other US state parks, Tennessee doesn’t charge an entrance fee for its state parks.
State park camping usually requires reservations and may cost a fee.
