We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. Hut or Tent, your choice. We just added the tent platform and it is your choice as to tent platform or Hut. They are about a football field away from each other. Get away from it all on a secluded mature wooded hill twenty minutes from the Ococee River. You can feel how old the Appalachian mountains are here. Remote enough and private but no 4WD needed (flat terrain to parking) and enough neighbors if needed (road running through property leads to subdivision by Apalachia Lake so has traffic on it.) To the right of the road is a creek and bog, to the left we have several acres of woods to explore and relax in. You will see an occasional car on the private road that runs below the Hut but on the hill, you will have complete privacy. Please note we have not yet added a firepit or compost toilet to the tent platform so you will be needing to go to the Hut for both of those. You can get to the Hut from the Platform along the road or through the woods. It is a beautiful place to chill and hang out that we are happy to share with you. Three of ten acres to the right of the road that runs through our property are a bog that runs along a creek with the creek joining wild remote Apalachia Lake. (Pretty much unpassable Nature saying keep out.) But enjoy hiking and exploring our seven gently sloping mature wood hills. There are also lots of well maintained dirt hillside roads for exploring or biking. Enjoy our Baba Yaga hut with only the bare necessities but you will be flat, dry and able to enjoy the woods all to yourself. Or the Tent Platform pretty much complete privacy. When one is rented, we take the other off the calendar so you get the entire place to yourself. Come explore and then chill away from it all.

We updated the outdoor kitchen with a 3 burner propane stove, propane grill and hot running water with a 3 bay sink. Other cooking options include a tripod over the fire and a charcoal grill. A short 10-minute drive to fire tower rd. brings you to a 2 mile loop trail with 2 waterfalls, Upper and Lower Piney Falls. Ozone falls is just a 20 minute drive. Then toward Spring City is Stinging Fork Falls at 25 minutes. Black mountain is my new favorite place especially the south overlook! The Hiking possibilities are nearly endless and close. I'll highlight one thru hike here since both trailheads are only 20 minutes away and is easy to coordinate with only 2 vehicles. It's a 10.2 mile hike that can be done in either direction and has a little something for everyone including a cave, boulder field, cascade and waterfall. Then you have massive Watts Bar Lake which is only 20 minutes away with a plethora of activities including the excursions we offer! We look forward to hosting you!

Great spot. Very quiet place. Driveway has a little speed bump and the road is a bit narrow but we backed in just fine. Short walk to the shower house/bathroom. Didn’t use any other facility. Would recommend!

The street noise and light pollution are definitely a huge downside if are looking for a peaceful campsite in the woods or the chance to see any stars. Sort of a tight park, but the price is right and there are lots of amenities. The site we had (113) was in a low spot but we were able to level up in our motorhome Tiffin Allegro Open Road TGA (35ft long) with no problems.

Site #1 Creekside has a 16' tent pad, picnic table, rock fire pit and a park style charcoal grill.

Weekend Trip to Gateway to the Smokies

Michael came through for me for a last minute request on my impromptu road trip! The spot was perfect for what I needed - a convenient and affordable spot to put my tent and get a good sleep. The tent pad was level and comfortable and 2 picnic tables let me spread out my stuff. I will say the site is right off the highway but I'm a sound sleeper and it didn't bother me. The sound of the creek was nice.

Michael’s Hipcamp was perfect for our weekend of hiking in the Smokies. We had a beautiful spot to put our tent with plenty of privacy. The fire ring was great for our needs, and we loved the thoughtfulness of the grill, even though we didn’t use it. I’m always happy when there is a picnic table at a tent site, so having one was definitely a bonus:). We did hear traffic because it is close to the highway, but it didn’t bother us. (Also, it doesn’t “feel” like you are close to the highway.) Overall, this was a very good Hipcamp experience and we recommend!!

We really enjoyed camping at Keith's lot on the lake. It was beautiful, and the resort was so clean. Everyone was very friendly. It was about 20 or so minutes to get to Gatlinburg but we loved staying away from the traffic. I would highly recommend Keith's lot. Additionally, although we are older, but for parents with kids, it looks like in the summer there would be tons for kids to do. Overall, great, clean place. A+

My husband and I traveled from Florida to the Smokey Mountain Lakeside Resort to celebrate our anniversary and enjoy the great outdoors with some tent camping — and we absolutely loved it! We had a site with electric and water, which came in super handy. The weather was perfect, and the entire campground was beautiful and so well-kept. I was especially impressed by how clean the bathrooms were! The gentleman who guided us to our site was so kind and helpful — he even gave us some extra firewood, which we really appreciated. The campers next to us were friendly too, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better stay. We’re already planning another trip for next year and will definitely be coming back!

Weekend Trip to Turkey Creek Campground

Had a great stay at Turkey Creek Campground in October 2025 to see the leaves change in the mountains. It was the cleanest Campground we've ever stayed at, the bathrooms were impeccable. There's not much of a creek, but it is pretty close to some fantastic Rivers. Rick is an outstanding host, we had forgot our water hose, and he longest one no questions asked. Will definitely be staying there again five stars

Tent camping for 2 nights. Great elevated spot, perfect for telescoping the night sky (amateur tip: the wee pre-dawn hours are best). Site is conveniently located to all the area has to offer with plenty of space to camp or glamp. Michael was a great host as well. Site was very well groomed and comfortable. My son and I had a great time!

Weekend Trip to Harmony hollow

Harmony Hollow was a cute and comfortable weekend getaway. The campground is close to the parkway but set back so it feels like you're in a remote area. You can hear the traffic noise, but the road isn't really visible from the campsites. Harmony Hollow campground is essentially a big field with 3-4 campsites around the outside and a big open space in the middle. You will definitely see your neighbors unless you hike out to set up a primitive site on the property, but if you do then you will likely be visited by the horses. The bathhouse with toilet, shower and sink was a nice amenity. There was no toilet paper supplied but thankfully we brought our own. The shower is not well lit so bring a lantern if you want to shower after dark. The firewood shed was not stocked, but it is the end of the season so perhaps not much demand.

Our stay at this mountain glamping tent was absolutely incredible! The setting was peaceful and secluded, surrounded by stunning views of the mountains and fresh, crisp air. The tent itself was beautifully set up…… cozy, clean, and thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The best part was the host, wonderfully responsive, kind, and attentive to every detail. They made sure we had clear directions, checked in to ensure we were comfortable, and went above and beyond to make our stay special. If you’re looking for the perfect mix of nature, comfort, and warm hospitality, this is the place. We left completely relaxed and can’t wait to come back!

Things to do for kids in summer, There seems to be mostly retired people here. The upkeep of the park is very nice. Close to Gatlinburg but not to close. Electric, water and cable are to the back of the site. Fire ring has a grill attachment. All in all a nice site.

The clear walls and ceiling make for a forest emersed one of a kind experience. It is like sleeping on the porch when you were young. Comfy for the whole family.

This is a great site! It is on the a large catch and release pond. We caught a catfish and several bluegills. The site is large enough to park our camper (33'), truck and another car. The site is well maintained and clean. It has it's own wifi too. It's a nice campground with paved sites and roads, great for walking or bicycles.

The name doesn’t lie; secluded it is which is such a perk when looking for a campsite. The sites are also spaced enough that it will never feel crowded. John is an amazing host. He doesn’t make himself present when you are enjoying your time on his property and communication is fantastic as well. Thank you John. Can’t wait to be back.
