Carl & Vicki's land is a working cattle/bison ranch that sits on the Dakota-Nebraska Eroded Tableland. It is a diverse landscape of canyons, prairie, streams and ponds. Carl's grandmother filed a homestead claim on this ranch in 1914. We are close to the Niobrara Scenic River, Smith Falls, Fort Falls, and Fort Niobrara Wildlife Refuge. Birding, hiking, stargazing and canoeing are a few of the activities for the person who wants to experience the peace and quiet of this beautiful landscape. Educational bison/prairie tours are available.

On our ranch is the original 1906 Ashley Homestead Shanty. We have a 1905 rural schoolhouse that is fully furnished for our guests to explore. A 1940s tourist cabin with two bedrooms (full-sized bed and twin-sized bed) is available for rent. We also have for rent, a new tiny house with a queen bed and a pull-out sofa.
A new two-bathroom shower house is now available for our guests' use.
There are seven electric only pedestals for your RV or camper.
A camp store has Bad River Jerky and Pemmican that our daughter produces. There is also local honey and homemade jellies (chokecherry, mulberry, strawberry, wild grape). Our cowgirl and cowboy grandkids have their homemade beaded necklaces for sale.

My son and I loved everything about staying here. Our campsite was great -- flat, soft grass, with an amazing view out over the refuge (including bison a few hills away) -- and the tour they took us on of the ranch and prairie was one of the highlights of it trip: meeting the bison up close blew my 4-year-old's mind and mine too actually :). Victoria and Carl are lovely people and great land managers. We can't wait to come back.

Vicki and her Husband were great hosts. Extenuating circumstances led to a late arrival and they were so gracious. They escorted us to our spot and offered any support we might need. We will elect to stay again in the future on our long trip up to Alaska!

The land was SO interesting, with beautiful plant species varieties and great vistas! Victoria was so sweet and flexible with us, and she gifted us some delicious tomatoes from her garden. The hilltop was a bit windy but those sunrises were definitely worth it !! 10/10 would stay again (:

High elevation views and a peaceful environment. The host communicates very well and makes you feel welcome. There are no shade trees so plan accordingly. Very private and relaxed setting.

Great and easily accessible RV site with good uncluttered views. Alan’s substantial Buffalo (Bison) herd is able to be viewed close up and his available Buffalo steaks and sausages are quite tasty. The weather when we were there was damp and raining but we can only imagine how much better it would be in clear conditions.

we absolutely loved this site. the view of the coniferous valley & the prairie beyond was breathtaking, and being atop a hill, the breeze was perfect for cooling off in the summer sun. our host was really kind & even shared some bison jerky with us!

We had a great time tent camping here! The site we were at had very soft soil so our stakes did not hold well, but as long as it is not a windy night there shouldn’t be any issues. He was very kind as well.
