Hi, I'm Curt. My wife Ani, son Fitch, and I are your average, everyday nonconformists who have been running an experiment. We are trying to figure out if a family can use their own hands and some grit to handcraft a life that you don't need a vacation from. Or better yet, that you would vacation to. Have we done that? You be the judge.
Years ago we left our Miami handcrafted furniture business to pursue this new goal. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living that would find a harmony between the helpful aspects of the modern world and the good parts of the old, that maybe society should have held tight to. We wanted to play with this idea...while keeping it classy ;-)
At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us designing unique, functional cottages, using solar energy, composting organics, sewing and reaping, in a way that is fair to our environment. We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature.
Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" slow, simple living can feel. We all have personal priorities, and those will vary greatly. But within that, we can all include ways of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our neighbors.
Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, that they can appreciate our perspectives and some of our old-fashioned ways. Our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a refreshing hideaway from the norm. You can imagine, it has been a ton of work, sacrifice and expense to create a very special camp atmosphere. Any donation to show appreciation for its use, if even for a single night, is a valuable support to our efforts.
*** Special Note: Heirloom has one full-hookup site for medium sized setups, that we use for long term month-to-month stays. Heirloom is our home, so we are judicious in determining that the guests that stay there are a good match for us and them.

Weekend Trip to TRAIL MAGIC
Carla was out of town during our stay, but was very helpful from the moment we booked until she handed communication over to John (who also lives on the land) John was extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, calm & steady, and made sure we had everything we needed to have a lovely weekend. He was also full of day trip recommendations that we’re excited to try out on our next visits! They seem to be well-traveled, open-minded people that immediately made me feel comfortable and safe.
We’re pretty low maintenance, so the air-conditioned, large tent with a comfy bed, composting toilet, and access to a shower felt like such a luxury! Even during the brief thunderstorms, the tent was a delightful place to be.
The amount of personal space we had was also a treat. John was always a text or call away, but the campsite is tucked back in the trees just enough to feel a total sense of privacy and peace.
If you’re used to actual camping, this place is an absolute luxury retreat. If you’re expecting this to be an airb&b, don’t. 😆
Overall, I definitely see myself returning, and would happily recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

Weekend Trip to Laurel Oaks Estate
We absolutely loved our stay at Laurel Oaks! We took out the Jon boat while it rained in the pond, saw the gator Stephen and even a river rotter in the pond doing some laps! Caught a crappie and enjoyed good drinks, laughs and memories outside on the property. We did stop by the game room for an hour or so and played some darts and pool and enjoyed ourself. Had some good food and drinks at near by restaurants. The little AC struggled in the little bear cabin at night however, it still provided some relief from this brutal summer heat while we slept. The tent was clean and had everything we needed. I also loved the little shower and sink set up they had it was very refreshing to clean up in. I would highly recommend! I will say I did at one point fall out of the Jon boat into the pond, it’s surprisingly deep. I would not recommend taking a plunge as I did especially knowing Stephen the gator was a few feet away watching me struggle to get back in the boat while I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe. 🤣

The A-Frame did not disappoint! A great way to relax along a lake view and enjoy peace and quiet. Jesse was very accommodating and made us feel so welcome and well taken care of. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! Going to come back here again in the fall!

Edisto was a beautiful place to visit! And this RV was a perfect place to stay. Right at the edge of the State Park, it was private, secluded and had the essential comforts! Ronald has created a nice little nook full of nature!! He even checked on us to make sure we had power when a little storm came through. We recommend this place!!!

Katie's cabin is the perfect oasis to recharge and she is a very gracious host. We loved listening to the birds in the day and the frogs and crickets at night. We can't wait to go back and spend more time than this trip allowed. The cabin has the basic essentials, the bed is comfy, and it's super dog friendly. Don't pass this place up, book it!

We enjoyed our stay at Spacious Skies Campground Peach Haven! We stayed in one of the cabins and it was perfect for what we wanted. We wanted to do all the camping things, but with two littles it was unrealistic to stay in a tent in the middle of the summer heat. So getting a cabin was a great solution! It was more than enough to provide us a little bit of comfort from the heat. The cabin was supplied with a lot more than what we were expecting which was nice if we had come unprepared. It’s not a 5star hotel, so you’ll find a bug or two and it’s very basic. But it was perfect for our trip! The campground itself was great as well! The workers were nice, they had a lot of activities for the 4th of July going on, and it had everything you would want from camping and still close to civilization! Would definitely recommend.

Weekend Trip to Black Pearl Farms
we booked sooo late, we ended up booking at 12am and getting there at 2am. they had no time to set anything up and it was still beautiful! in the morning we spoke to the host and he helped us with everything we needed even though it was totally our fault! him and his wife are wonderful and we will be back soon! so sorry again for booking so late, but the place was so cute and it was lovely to stay there!

My family loved our overnight stay in this charming cabin! It was easy to find thanks to Katie's excellent directions and was just as advertised, right down to the horses in her pasture. We enjoyed stargazing, watching fireflies, and being serenaded by four species of frogs & toads in the pond: Cope's gray treefrog, southern cricket frogs, Fowler's toads, and green frogs.
