We came down here from New England in 1997 because we were invited by some locals to teach hanggliding here. At that time as certified HG instructors we thought ok lets try..came down here with our backpacks, a few hang gliders, and figured we would see how it worked out. Renting places to stay for a few years and including rooms for visiting students we had this opportunity to get and fix up this old house. It was a continuation of my dream to have a back pack travelers , adventure travelers, artists, LBGTQ friendly, off the beaten path type of place to stay. And so in 2004 Barefoot Travelers Rooms and Adventures Guesthouse was born.

One of Raíz’s most distinctive features is its circular deck built around a tree, a signature space designed for sitting, gathering, and experiencing the forest in a way that feels both grounded and unforgettable. Guests also have access to Alba, a shared sunset area with seating and hammocks, and Entresueños, a circular bed tucked into the forest for resting, dreaming, and enjoying the surroundings. You can walk, hike, make a bonfire, or just sit at the lakeshore to recharge your batteries. Enjoy the views and the sound of the coqui during the sunset. Enjoy the stars and the night sky away from the city. Live the experience of the past and remember our grandparents. In the grandpa's house, you will live like them. This is a triple experience to the past in only one place: 2. In an adjacent structure, the 1950 grocery store, you will have access to a traditional bathroom with a shower, a 2-burner gas stove, a small refrigerator, and a microwave. You will have the basic commodities but live like Grandpa. 3. Visit the iconic ranch where Bad Bunny film his musical video "Pitorro de Coco" Boricua owned! Vehicles like a Toyota Camry, an SUV, or a 4x4. Other things to note Use only Google Maps to drive to the property; you can get lost if you use other apps like Apple Maps. Remember this is a rural area with just a few traffic lights; we highly recommend arriving early the 1st time to get familiarized with the area.Wi-Fi: There is no Wi-Fi signal in Grandpa's house, but if you need to use it, you can access the Wi-Fi service close to the main house. You will be in the middle of 5 acres of land, in total contact with nature and in an emblematic property from the 50's. In simple words: there are no screens on the windows, and you sleep with a mosquito net. Insects are a vital part of the flora and fauna, and you can see a wide variety of them in the surroundings, from lizards to fireflies. In the same way, and despite the fact that we have an exterminator visit every 2 weeks, sometimes they can be inside the grandfather's house. A real, genuine, and magical experience. For those not familiar with the local driving conditions, it's advisable to approach the journey with a sense of adventure and patience. The roads, while providing an authentic experience of the country's topography, may require a bit of adaptability from drivers more accustomed to city driving.Compact vehicles are more than capable of reaching our hidden oasis. The key is to drive safely, taking your time to navigate any twists, bumpy roads, and turns with care. The reward for your efforts is an untouched sanctuary, where the untouched beauty of nature awaits. We are close to Monasterio Santa Clara - only for reference

Welcome to WYLD La Plata, an off-grid retreat on the shores of Lago La Plata in Puerto Rico, set across 1.5 acres of private land shaped by the lake, the forest, and stillness. The property includes two distinct stays—Casita and Raíz—along with shared spaces designed for rest, lake access, and immersion in nature. The Casita sits above a calm inner bay of the lake with easy access, beautiful views, and a one-minute walk to the shoreline. Outside, guests will find a four-burner gas stove, charcoal barbecue grill, cooler, hammock, table and chairs, and fire pit. Air conditioning is available with a paid generator add-on. Raíz is secluded glamping stay tucked farther into the forest, about a one-minute walk from the lake. It includes a bell tent, full size bed, composting toilet, outdoor shower, and 3 burner gas stove offering a deeper connection to the trees, water, and quiet of the land. One of the most special features of WYLD La Plata is its connection to birdlife and the lake. The property is home to a white egret nesting area, and guests may witness hundreds of birds moving through the site and gathering near the water throughout the day. The lake is calm and ideal for swimming, relaxing by the shore, launching a kayak or stand-up paddleboard. At night, guests may also see cucubanos, the tiny glowing beetles that bring a special kind of magic to the forest. WYLD La Plata is off-grid by design. The quiet is part of the experience. There is no standard electricity, and water is limited, allowing guests to settle into a slower more intentional rhythm. We provide solar lights outdoors, lanterns and rechargeable lights.
