After all, necessity is the mother of invention.
This is our first study of building a sustainable living environment. We started with a blank slate, a new system designed with the permaculture principles in mind and the intention of ultimately creating a living space with the creature comforts we have all grown accustomed to. Eventually we will be building the next round of accommodations (principal: Small & Slow Solutions). When staying in one of our cabins, you are participating in this process by sharing with us your experience (principal: Observe & Interact), letting us know what you have discovered you can and can not live without, and possible solutions to efficiently address those needs and wants (principal: Apply Self Regulation & Accept Feedback).

Weekend Trip to The River Otter Den - Riverfront!
Amazing. From the view of the fall leaves and the Allegheny, to how nice the cabin was, to having a chimnied fire pit. Everything was perfect,. We usually do primitive sites, but I figured we could go glamping for once, and it was beyond anything I could expect. Meghan was super accommodating and a really nice host as well. 11/10 we'll definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Bison Trace Luxury Camping
Our little family stayed in one of the tents this past weekend and upon our arrival we found a spacious tent with all the amenities for an outside gathering, outdoor cooking, comfortable sleeping arrangements, and a separate game room.
We were so impressed with the cleanliness, aesthetics, and personal touches that were left by the owners.
Some shout outs:
* We were given a separate heated bathroom with shower, sink, and toilet, and a personalized touch of our family name on a sign outside the door
* A gathering area or hang out after hours with a fire cauldron
* A coffee shop with specious coffee and chai lattes and reasonably priced breakfast options

Weekend Trip to Forest Camping with Modern Comfort
We absolutely loved it! My husband’s from UT. Camping is his thing, not mine…but this was awesome. Well stocked camp site. Everything you need is there….and clean with a white duvet (my personal fav). Clean bathrooms, showers, a beach, bike trail, walking trails, waterfalls nearby…truly a nice weekend adventure. We’ll come again!

Weekend Trip to Bending Oak Permaculture Farm
The farm was interesting, peaceful, and beautiful. The signs that described the permaculture activities were unobtrusive and insightful. There is a perfectly placed covered seating area in front of the gorgeous pond that provides a great area to watch the wildlife. The tiny house we stayed in and the bathhouse were clean and just what we needed. Recommend this stay, esp if you favor natural living off the land.

We spent one night at Alan & Chris’s bell tent and had the most wonderful time! The bell tent is cozy and durable (we stayed completely dry in a big storm). We enjoyed their specialty coffee and a delicious breakfast by them. Native plants, birds and their songs, and beautiful stars at night their property checks all of the boxes. We can’t wait to go back!

Weekend Trip to Flannel Dog Farm
What a wonderful experience!!! From the start Alan and Chris were great communicators, which made my first time using this service so comfortable. Chris met us when we arrived and showed us around. She was amazing and asked about my partner’s dietary needs for both the charcuterie board I purchased and the breakfast that came with our stay. The farm itself was just as welcoming. The tiny home we stayed in was cozy and comfortable. We did not use the provided wood for the fire, but it was nicely stacked and ready for us if we chose to. We had the charcuterie on the first night and it was perfect. We were treated to a lovely spread of items that included Alan’s home made focaccia(soooo worth it!). The breakfast the next two mornings were worth the trip on their own. Alan had brought out coffee (delicious) for me and tea for my partner. The breakfast each morning was a spectacular way to start any day! We were also treated to a tour of Chris’s awesome studio and got to see some of her art, so cool. I would definitely recommend staying here and will probably follow my own advice again at a later day! Don’t hesitate, you are not going to regret staying with these amazing hosts!!

Absolutely magical! We’ll be back next year - probably for several days. It’s so easy to just relax and be present there - a world apart! The game room, playset, lake, fire pits, ample firewood, and facilities were just beautifully done and soooo worth it! My kiddos cried when it was time to leave. The hot dinners and s’mores kits available for purchase were such a nice touch too. I can’t forget to mention our gracious and friendly hosts too - they made us feel so welcome!

We stayed in the big blue cabin for the evening in August to celebrate my little boys birthday. Every moment was true magic. We walked around the farm, fished in the pond, and made a great campfire. Jeff was gracious and welcoming. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to make memories.

Weekend Trip to Flannel Dog Farm
As soon as I pulled onto the property, I could feel how special the farm was. WOW. The Peace Portal Tiny House took my breath away upon first sight - and I was so content just to read, write, eat (especially that insanely amazing breakfast, cooked by our hosts!), meditate, and soak up alllll the sights & sounds.
From curious rabbits to croaking frogs, crowing roosters to lightning bugs zipping past my window as I rested in that cozy bed - it was everything I needed for an overnight getaway. Access to a half bath was AWESOME, as well as provided drinking water and an outdoor mini fridge, if needed. (Plus, it's only a mile to the lake!)
Chris & Alan have created something truly special - and are PHENOMENAL, responsive, thoughtful hosts and human beings. STAY HERE! :-)

What a great place for nature lovers. Jeff has worked hard to provide a little piece of paradise on earth. My grandkids loved it! They got to collect eggs for our breakfast and fish in the pond. The tiny house was perfect, although the kids struggled with using the compost toilet.

Weekend Trip to Bison Trace Luxury Camping
Everyone should try camping in a covered wagon at least once. This was definitely far nicer than anything I imagined. The amenities were top-notch and the people were really lovely. Even when the weather wouldn’t cooperate, we were able to play games and enjoy the setting in a covered and screened porch.
