Bologna Creek Ranch

9 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents101 acres · Monument, Grant
My grandfather and my dad bought the property as a bank foreclosure in 1987.  Our grandfather gave his portion to my brother and I.  We have used it primarily for recreation and big game hunting.  I have been managing restoration projects on the place for the last 7 years.  We have restored over 200 acre of native grasslands and are working on getting the aspens back stronger.  We love it when visitors take some time to clip the western junipers smaller than 1 ft tall in our restoration areas!

Experience Heaven

11 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents157 acres · La Pine, Deschutes
8 campsites and 2 original Mongolian Gers. The season for the camp sites is from June 1st to October 15 and the Gers are all 12 months. Pets allowed, toilets on site, campfires permitted when burn ban is not in place. This being the 4th year, things have gotten a little out of hand. So let's regergitate some things and make sure everyone understands how it is. If you aren't capable of practicing the 5 P's, then you need to book somewhere else. Proper Preperation Prevents Poor Performance. If you can't get here and have your camp set up by 8:00PM, showing respect to the other Hipcampers that are already set up and enjoying the PEACE AND QUIET, then you need to book somewhere else or don't come until the following morning. No driving down to the campsites/the lake after 8::00PM. Period. Communicate with me. If you leave Portland at 5:00 PM with the intention of spending the night in Heaven then you need to alter your plans. No more than 4 adults at each campsite. I am almost to the point of saying no BIG DOGS. If you got big dogs, my suggestion is you go book someplace else. Talk to me. It is a given they willl need to be on a tethered throughout your time in Heaven. Take them for walks along the lake, not having them run thru everyone elses camp sites. No Yappers, no barking dogs, no yippers, no pain in the butts. Why would you drive by 46 grocery stores and forget to bring ice? No music. I have changed quiet time to 9:00 PM. You need to listen to music I suggest you start a band or become a DJ. What I want folks to get out of being here, whether they are camping or staying in the Gers is just to “take a break”. Relax, appreciate, assess and just listen. I hope what you hear is the sound of life and of course all the Angels that make up this special piece of Heaven. The chipmunks, the squirrels, all the different birds, the eagles, the osprey, the fish jumping, the deer roaming, the timber martins running thru the trees, the snowshoe rabbits and the occasional black bear. Then there is the silence. The best part of “Heaven”. So, while you are here, take a deep breath, close your eyes at the appropriate moment and ask yourself, am I on the right path? Is what I am doing fulfilling me? Am I showing my family and friends how much I love them? Do I really need all that crap I got? Where do I go from here? My intention was for each one you to not just go camping, or to stay in a Mongolian Ger but to have an “Experience” that just might lead you to a more fulfilling and happier life.

Overnight at the Oasis

9 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents2 acres · Anatone, Asotin
Boggan's Oasis is in the SE corner of Washington state, right on the breathtaking Grande Ronde River. Visitors can arrive by driving to the bottom of Rattlesnake Grade (WA-129), or the bottom of Buford Grade (OR-3). These two curvacious roads are extremely popular rides for motorcyclists and bicyclists nationally. Visitors may also arrive by water (rafts, driftboats, jetboats, kayaks, etc) coming downriver from Oregon, or upriver from the Snake River (WA/ID). Many other unpaved roads will lead guests to our canyon, which creates great opportunities for off-road vehicle adventures! The Grande Ronde River, which drains much of northeast Oregon's Union and Wallowa counties, is fed by snowpack in the Elkhorn Mountains. The Wallowa River, a major tributary to the Grande Ronde, headwaters in the Wallowa Mountains, mostly within the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Twenty-two miles from Boggan's Oasis, the Grande Ronde River flows into the mighty Snake River. The river is surrounded by steep, rugged canyon walls that rise 3000 to 4000 feet above the river level. Dense conifer forests blend into grassy slopes set off by scattered conifer "stringers." Called "The Land of Winding Waters" by Native Americans, the river is home to rainbow trout, dolly varden, whitefish, squawfish, suckers, bass, and steelhead. Rocky Mountain elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, bighorn sheep, bear, bald eagles, and a variety of smaller animals and birds can be seen daily. And yes, there are rattlesnakes! Fishing, hunting, hiking, all kinds of boating/floating, offroad vehicle riding, and animal/bird watching are beyond expectations in this area. Seasonally, guests can also successfully gather a variety of mushrooms and berries while on one of the many nearby hiking trails. Many of these short walks also lead to incredible, far-reaching views of the Blue Mountains, Wenaha wildlife sanctuary, Hells Canyon, and the tri-state area. In the hotter summer months, the swimming hole below the Boggan's Bridge is a popular way to cool off. Boggan's Oasis also offers fishing trips, float trips, shuttles, and a FULL restaurant! Check our website for more info.

Camping near John Day guide

Near the valley of the painted hills sits the little town of John Day. Ranches line the road to town, and not long ago cattle drives were a regular event on Main Street. The town is a hub for this rural area, bringing locals to the farmer's market, small museums, and the big county fair. The Oregon town sits between two national forests: Malheur and Umatilla. They cover 3 million acres of the Blue Mountains, rolling through dessert grasslands, alpine lakes, and sage and juniper groves. Campers can choose from a half dozen campgrounds within an hour's drive. Tent camping here leans toward the rustic, with vault toilets and potable water. Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site is a better choice for amenities. Just west of town, the campground has water and electrical for RV camping, plus hot showers and a dump station. The wooded camp sits on the banks of the John Day River for fishing and swimming. The painted hills are one of Oregon's top natural wonders. Layers of colored soil give the hills a striped appearance. Visit in the late afternoon, when the colors are at their most dramatic. You can find them at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, along with a fossil bed site. If you prefer to stay in town, check out the RV park at the Grant County Fairgrounds. The park offers full hook-up sites and is close to the town swimming pool.
