Located approximately 60 miles from Crater Lake National Park, 30 miles from Lava Beds National Monument, and 12 miles from Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, our retreat offers unparalleled access to a variety of natural wonders.
Within just 30 minutes, you'll find numerous opportunities for hiking, fishing, kayaking, and biking, with private access to miles of hiking trails on public land right from the campsite. Keep your eyes peeled for the impressive eagle activity in the area, as bald and golden eagles are frequently spotted soaring above or perched nearby.
At night, you may have the opportunity to join us for star viewing parties under our dark, expansive sky—an experience you won't forget.
While our site offers access to seclusion, it's not entirely secluded on its own. Nestled at the bottom of a pasture in a farming area, it's within sight of the owner and a neighbor. However, rural living offers a sense of privacy, allowing you to relax and be yourself amidst nature. Keep in mind that you may encounter bugs, coyotes, deer, and some nearby farming activity during your stay.
Our communal camping area features level ground, fire pit, potable water spigot, camp toilet, and a picnic table. Well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be leashed or kenneled on the property—feel free to let them off-leash on the adjacent public lands.
You may get lucky and get a visit from one of our barn cats-Pumpkin and Spice, or get a glimpse of one of the dinosaur chickens (Guinea Fowl) that serve as pest and mosquito control.
Owners are available to provide information and maps for hiking and outdoor recreation activities. Enjoy stunning views of Mount Shasta from your campsite, with seasonally flooded fields adding to the picturesque scenery. You're also welcome to explore the hills nearby, offering even more breathtaking vistas to discover.

We originally purchased the 20 acres of untouched land and built our cabin, the "Snug Shack," as a getaway from the city. Fast forward a few years, and 40 acres next door with an abandoned house on the canyon ridge went up for sale. We decided to purchase it and start a homestead there. That 40 acres where we now live was badly abused, and we have been in the process of cleaning up and restoring it. Fortunate for you, the land surrounding the Snug Shack was never abused and is still pristine and beautiful. By camping at the Snug Shack, you help support us in our mission to restore this beautiful place.We named our homestead after the rings of small oak trees that grow here on the ridge.: "Oak Ring Ridge." What a view! Easy to set up, water and electric right there. Level and gravelly. Across the road is a field where Balds and Goldens gather every morning. It was magical! And Shasta is the backdrop for all of this! Laurie is responsive but let's you be. Go and camp there!

We were not sure at first if we were at the right place. We pulled in where it said picnic and found an area to set up came with porta johns. Dahllia was quick to respond to confirm we found the spot we were looking for. The river is a huge bonus, the kids and dogs had a great time swimming. To find it you walk the Riverbank Dr to the left and it ends at the swimming spot. The sunset was amazing with a gorgeous night sky. It was about an hour from Crater Lake and very secluded. We would definitely recommend this spot.

We had a wonderful time in this cabin. Although the cabin is small, it is well designed and feels much more spacious. The loft was great and the outdoor shower worked exceptionally well. The property is so peaceful and private, it was great to hang out. Hope to get back there sometime.

We had a beautiful stay. Host met us at the cabin and showed us the ropes and then we had the place + surrounding land to ourselves. The cabin is clean and cozy. So cool that it is hand-built. Got to see lightning, deer, and a wild horse run by in the morning!

The road isn't marked, we passed it and had to turn around. There are two roads, a grass road and gravel that are about where the GPS takes you. The road to the beach is rutted but we made it down there. I'm not sure where the tent picture under the big tree is. I couldn't find that tree on the property. You camp site is in a field with no shade other than a few willow trees in overgrown reed canary grass. The site is private and far enough from the road we didn't worry about the dogs. You can hear traffic on the highway. The river has a big deep swimming area hole so bring something to float on. We enjoyed our time on the property and would stay again if in the area. We did catch some fish but would bring a weedwacker to clear more area by the water if the host would let us. A picnic table would be useful for this site.

Dahllia was super nice and helpful. Very hard to know if you’re in the right spot but nice once I figured it out. The small sandy beach is so nice and only a little walk away. Not a lot of flat area for tents but mine is small and I found a place.

Weekend Trip to Oak Ring Ridge
Andy was a wonderful host, greeted us and walked us through the space when we arrived. It was our first time in a little A-frame cabin and this one was quite charming and loved the handmade feel to all the details! It was a wonderful retreat and reset as we were off grid. We especially loved the loft, hanging out and sleeping with the view of the sky! Absolutely would come back.

The snuck shack was indeed a snug, remote and charming stay. The host was ever so kind and accommodating. Great trails with wide open spaces for the doggies. The kitchen was well equipped and suitable staying off grid. The roof was clear corrugated so you can catch a starry night from the loft bed. Host left a walkie talkie to get in touch for any questions or needs as cell service is very limited. Wish we had time to stay longer and explore.

Weekend Trip to Oak Ring Ridge
Absolutely phenomenal experience. Hosts are gracious, kind, and set up a beautiful nest that has everything ya need in a gorgeous environment.
Naturalist paradise: encountered coyote, wild horses, golden eagle, bobcat, red-tailed hawk, western tanager, deer, amongst many other songbirds as well as a diversity of wildflowers.
Tranquil and enlivening stay, full of wild beauty. Highly recommend.

Great little spot in farm country with a spectacular view of Mt Shasta. Very private. Lots of bird and frog noises. Firewood only $5 a bundle! I tent camped with my pets just for the night. Has basic amenities which is all we needed.
