Newt Graham Lock and Dam was built to improve the Arkansas River, but there’s fun stuff to do here, especially if you love the water! Launch your boat in the river and cast a line for some of the best bass fishing around. You can also reel in crappie, channel cats, flatheads, and sunfish—what a feast! If you’re planning to stay overnight, choose from the two camping spots near the river, especially popular with anglers. Head up to the small visitor center for great views of the river, and watch the commercial tug boat operations. You might also want to check out the nearby towns, with their quaint shops and restaurants. Newt Graham is great for a low-key, fish-filled getaway.

If your first thought of Oklahoma is flat land and tumbleweeds, you’ve got another thing coming. Eufaula Lake is here specifically to change your mind with its sandy beaches, and rocky bluffs. Bring the boat and the swimsuit; you are not going to want to miss spending time in the water! Come by in the fall to check out the changing of the leaves. Don’t forget to charge the phones and pack the camera, this is seriously breathtaking and you’ll be kicking yourself if you don’t Instagram the heck out of the fall foliage. Take advantage of the historic town of Eufaula nearby for some antique shops and restaurants as a little break from nature living. Anyway you spend the day, Eufaula Lake is the best place for it!

Found some trees perfect for a hammock, hiked down the rock trail, made a campfire cake, had camp coffee and enjoyed the scenery. It was my kind of party. Camper was in good shape, smelled and looked clean. Having a flushable toilet, a queen size bed to sleep in, and the option to use the stove were all very convenient (especially with a 4 year old). Great place for the price, I enjoyed the atmosphere and it was peaceful and fun. Host was responsive.

It’s truly a hideaway! From the moment we checked in with the host on Friday, we didn’t see another soul all weekend — and that’s exactly what made it perfect. The peace and quiet here are unmatched. The forest around camp was alive with sounds of nature, and we even had a family of raccoons wander by one evening (so definitely keep your food locked up!).
The views are absolutely breathtaking — sunrise from this site is something you’ll never forget. I captured a few photos from sunrise and even some night shots, and they turned out incredible. This place would be magical in the fall when the colors start to change.
Just like other reviewers mentioned, having a 4x4 or AWD is smart. Our Crosstrek handled it easily, but if it rains, things could get interesting.
If you’re looking for a peaceful, secluded getaway surrounded by nature, Hickman Hideaway is exactly that. We left feeling recharged and can’t wait to come back! 🌲✨

We had a very peaceful weekend, at a perfect location for tent camping. We set up our camp 30 ft from the creek, the sound of the water was very relaxing.

We had a very relaxing time. The campsites were very clean and the creek area was as well. The water was wonderful. We will definitely return in the future.
Although the cell service was very weak, we were able to get texts. Laquita was quick to respond to any questions we had.

We loved tent camping at The wild Goose. We were able to find it very easily and having electricity at the site was such a blessing. The view of the river was amazing and my kids spent a lot of time on the rock wall right along the river. It was quiet and we had all the privacy we were looking for. Do yourself a favor and bring a pair of binoculars because the natural wildlife was beautiful to look at and we found out how the site got its name from the geese that wandered across the way from us. We would definitely stay at this property again!

It's a very isolated and comfy camp site. We loved our stay. Only word of warning is make sure you have 4 wheel drive or at least are comfortable with a hike to the site. The owner was fantastic and we are very likely to return.

First time camping in our trailer we purchased and it was perfect. It was beautiful. Very well kept, no trash anywhere! The porta potty was the cleanest I had ever saw. I had a great time! It's a great spot for car camping. There were lots of trees and birds, and the camper was really convenient. It had a toilet, shower, and sink that were welcome conveniences for the three night stay in my tent.

Wow. This property is beautiful, well kept, and fairly private. The owner, Laquita, was very nice and super helpful. The creek was a perfect backdrop to our camp fire. It was a very relaxing trip and will definitely be making another booking here in the future.

I camped for a week at the river site and it was a fantastic time. It is 100% private except for the occasional barge. The site backs up to forest which feels 20 degrees cooler so it'd be great during summer. The shade is plentiful! I will be back for sure. The path down to the site can be a little iffy so I'd recommend 4x4 if there has been recent heavy rainfall.
The hosts are some of the kindest people I have met. They are warm and genuinely care about your experience.

I loved this camping spot. Best spot I've ever camped hands down. The privacy and quiet is unmatched, but if you need anything the host David is a text away. You'll lose signal a few miles from the spot but at the camp sight there is the perfect amount of signal for keeping up with the weather or an emergency. Great fishing, plenty of firewood and tinder to scavenge. Beautiful views, very low light pollution at night. If you don't have a 4x4 you should pack a hand cart to help get your gear to the camp site. Bugs are a problem in any site as primitive as this, but I didn't get a single tick or bug bite. I treated all my gear, clothes, tents, chairs, even my dogs with permethrin (you can find it at Walmart or on Amazon), and I also paired that with picaridian spray on any exposed skin. Thank you David! for sharing your little slice of heaven with us. We enjoyed every moment at Hickmans Hideaway.
