Nestled just a quarter mile from the entrance of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, our glamping village sits on a scenic hill behind our cafe, offering stunning views of Mt. Scott and direct access to nearby hiking trails.
We currently feature three glamping wall tents- Zion, Selah, and Shiloh. Each tent includes a wooden deck and a framed queen-size bed, creating a cozy, romantic retreat you won't forget.
Our bathhouse includes two private rooms, each equipped with a camping toilet, pump sink, and thoughtful amenities for your comfort. Our outdoor shower will be refreshing after a long hike as well!
We have just installed two standing outdoor grills for your cooking needs. Both on the gravel parking lot level, one by the covered patio, the other by the picnic area. Bring your own charcoal, or add it on to your order and we will have it ready for you. Please remember to leave no trace, use trash recepticles and do not leave any food out for the wildlife.
Bringing a pet? They are very welcome here, however, we now require a $30 pet fee due to additional cleaning and potential damages. Please add this on to your booking.
By June 1, 2025, we'll be adding two spacious yurts, each accommodating 6-8 sleeping bags or cots - perfect for families, kids, or groups looking for a unique outdoor stay.
For those seeking a more rustic experience, we also offer nine primitive walk-up campsites.

We have several beautiful hiking trails and two breathtaking vistas at which to gaze at the picturesque mountains in the distance. “Meandering Trail” takes you to where the property borders the gigantic Ouachita National Forest. Keep going if you please. It’s 1.8 Million acres of wilderness made just for you! A true hunters paradise teeming with deer and other wildlife. The national forest is also accessible via Roger’s Pass and an easement. Bring your ATVs!If you like spectacular sunrises then this is the place for you. Just pray you have enough disk space on your camera! The Legendary Talimena Byway is just a few miles down the road; a 54 mile winding wonderland across the backs of the mighty Winding Stair and Ridge Mountains with dozens of pull-offs and vistas that are a feast for the senses. Plenty of Ouachita’s endless hiking trails can be accessed from the byway. Kayaking the incredible Kiamichi river can also be on your agenda. Long vehicles may easily enter and exit here. Several choices for parking, including one under shelter. Here is a covered deck, grill and fireplace.

This drive can accommodate vehicles of 40' or less. Here is a fire ring, some outdoor seating and several flat areas for tents.

Morning Light Mountain Lodge is our 5.7 acre dream come true on the side of Round Mountain in the Ouachita Mountains. We have several beautiful hiking trails and two breathtaking vistas at which to gaze at the picturesque mountains in the distance. “Meandering Trail” takes you to where the property borders the gigantic Ouachita National Forest. Keep going if you please. It’s 1.8 Million acres of wilderness made just for you! A true hunters paradise teeming with deer and other wildlife. The national forest is also accessible via Roger’s Pass and an easement. Bring your ATVs!If you like spectacular sunrises then this is the place for you. Just pray you have enough disk space on your camera! The Legendary Talimena Byway is just a few miles down the road; a 54 mile winding wonderland across the backs of the mighty Winding Stair and Ridge Mountains with dozens of pull-offs and vistas that are a feast for the senses. Plenty of Ouachita’s endless hiking trails can be accessed from the byway. Kayaking the incredible Kiamichi river can also be on your agenda. Check out paddlers websites and forums for details and ideal entry points. Anyone like fishing? Oklahoma’s premier Bass fishing lake, Cedar Lake is a short 20 minute drive. We enjoyed our stop at Heavener Runestone Park. The terrain is hilly and scenic. Our highlight was watching the sun set from the scenic overlook. The amenities are a bit faded, but functional. This was a comfortable place to spend the night on our way south. It was fun to learn about this odd bit of history, too!

Honest review. Darrel was amazing. Wears a lot of hats and makes sure we are taken care of. He suggested to use the restaurant bathroom from 30 min before open to 30 minutes after close. During the night there are camping toilets in private rooms behind the restaurant. Not my favorite but they have long open hours so it really is for just in the middle of the night use. We decided not to cook but there were grills available outside. Had a few common seating areas for watching sunsets and sunrises. Common campfire that Darrel started and provided wood for, himself. We ate all our meals at the cafe. They are very considerate of food allergies preferences no sugar or lots of sugar if needed. Full bar, the chocolate drop martini was delish. Coffee was awesome. Had almond and oatmilk low sugar. Healthy choices from quinoa, black bean burgers house cut fries, latino favorites like hueve rancheros, teas, yerba mate, beer. Turmeric lattes. Very fresh tasting and yummy. They had real egg or imitation eggs or “cheggs” also had real chicken or crushed chickpeas in the quesadillas. Lots of choices. Servers were prompt and kind. The room was cute in decor, bed was comfortable and I have lower sacrum problems and it didn’t hurt to sleep on it. I was hoping there would be a tent heater but there was not one so we used the blankets that were very comfy on the bed and an extra sleeping bag and was very cozy. The tents did have condensation. An authentic opportunity for a stand out adventure can be discovered in Southestern Oklahoma at The Healthy Hippie Cafe within the charming town of Medicine Park! Well said that it is a full sensory experience set in the parameters of the wildlife refuge where both primitive and canvas tent dwellers can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding hills and view of Mt. Scott upon sunrise. A lovely trail ascends to a panoramic perspective of the historical towns settings. We heard coyotes calling out after sundown, the lovely fall breezes passing through the tent windows, the brilliance of the stars, and even a hooting owl passing by!
We traveled here to celebrate our youngest son's 6th birthday. He enjoyed every minute of it! The hosts, Darrell and Kelli are super personable and make themselves readily available. This little piece of property is set off the main road adjacent to The Healthy Hippie Cafe. However, with the exception to the minimal passing vehicles in the earlier evening and some talented musicians that could be heard in the distance, all was brought solely to the sounds of nature alone soon after. We slept in the Shiloh tent. It was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Bathrooms are available and an outdoor shower if that suits you.
We started our morning with a short hike on the property and breakfast in the Cafe. Super! The bar provides many fantastic options. GREAT coffee! REAL food! Ambiance is legit. This place is crushworthy. Thank you, Darrell & Kelli!

My family and I loved tent camping here! The views were beautiful! We were at site #8, it was very pretty and peaceful. Lots of trees for nice shade and great spot for a hammock. There even happened to be a big event at the overlook one of the days we were there, but there was still enough separation that it wasn’t too loud and we still felt like we had our privacy. The Runestone didn’t disappoint! We thought it was cool. We really enjoyed hiking the trails too.

The campsite was absolutely lovely! The forest felt more like the Black Hills, SD. I had no idea Oklahoma could look like this. It was SO peaceful I could've been 100 miles from civilization, yet Hevener was nestled beautifully in the valley below. Hearing those spooky train horns every hour or so was neat-my boy couldn't get enough! The short hike to the runestone was fun, and that sweet young lady in the gift shop went outta her way for our yard game. What a cozy Oklahoma spot! Terrain was a bit rough and steep and rocky so be advised.

Excellent campsite for our first time visiting the park! The trails were great and easy to navigate, amenities offered worked well, and the host was communicative too. If you plan to stay at this campsite (or probably anywhere in the park), just be mindful there’s a very active train station below the park so you’ll hear it both day & night—earplugs were an essential for me. However, that doesn’t deter my recommendation. The fall leaves were gorgeous, so we picked the perfect weekend to stay.

Weekend Trip to Hippie Hill
I really enjoyed my stay at Hippie Hill! I booked the Zion Tent for my first night of my stay in the Wichita Mountains. I had never been to the area and it was nice to have a stay in town to get the lay of the land before venturing into the park. The bed was super comfortable, and the tent was nice and warm and protected me from the heavy winds. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. It is right in the center of the town and the cafe provided a delicious meal and coffee before I started out on my hike the next day. My only critique is that the guest outhouse was locked overnight, but I was able to use the cafe bathroom during business hours. There is some road noise so it’s not necessarily a secluded sort of experience. But it was nice to enjoy a soft bed after a long day of travel before camping the next 2 nights! Again the owners and the cafe were really nice. I’d definitely recommend this spot for someone who wants to enjoy Medicine Park during their trip to the Wildlife Refuge.

A quaint little park with unique history and the perfect hikes for beginners or those needing an hour to waltz with nature. You're outside of town but not so far away that running back for something you forgot to be a real problem. Campsites are as you would expect, a platform that is just big enough for our large sundome tent (8 person), a firepit and metal grill for each site and a concrete and wood picnic table. They even have shepherd hooks for campers to hang a lantern or lights. The camping area is lit up at night by a string of bulb lights, giving just enough glow to get down to the bathrooms without being a nuisance when trying to sleep. A wonderful setup for a relaxing weekend. My son and I were the only people in the park at one point and it was very peaceful. Crows, woodpeckers, and squirrels abound but not much else in the way of wildlife. A definite for families or someone looking for a quiet place to pitch a tent or hang a hammock.

She also gave me lots of great information about the campsite and what was available or what we would need to bring ourselves. Although we did not get to stay at her place in the end, which was entirely on our end, we do plan on doing so in the future.
