Very accommodating and friendly host. Enjoyed the RV campsite, veggies from the garden, swim in the pond, and conversations with the host. Rusty and friends were great too!

Great spot. Really enjoyed swimming ( and could have fished & kayaked ) in the pond. Perfect for our campervan but tent sites were exceptionally nice.

Went to sleep with the fireflies and woke up to bird singing and a deer at my doorstep. Jay was an amazing host. Gabe is a tour upon arrival. He put a lot of effort into his place and it shows. We really enjoyed our stay.

I love when we visit Rusty’s, able to just enjoy family time with our child and dogs walking in the creek catching crayfish, interacting with the farm animals, or enjoying the pond by fishing, swimming, and kayaking in It. The host are great and the land is lovely. Thank you again for having us.

2 nights at Uncle Chuck's Cabin

The cabin was stocked with everything anyone could need, including water, board games, cooking utensils, firewood, and Kindling! Super comfy bed in the loft and the porch rockers were the perfect place for coffee. We caught SO many fish from shore, catfish, drums, perch, and even a long nosed gar! Only 5 minutes away is a gorgeous trail system for bike rides or dog walks, and lots of historic sites to check out as well. We will be back for sure!

This cabin is beautiful and the scenery even more, Chuck takes great care of his property and his guests. I definitely recommend this cabin, 10 out of 5!

2 nights at Uncle Chuck's Cabin

We loved everything about our stay at Uncle Chucks Cabin. While it is a primitive space, there was nothing at all we needed that could have made our stay any better. We spent 2 days enjoying our kayaks and fishing the river with all the comforts of a well appointed cabin. If you have the chance be sure to check out the Canal Experience just down the road for a boat ride and a trip through the last working canal lock in Ohio.

Some friends and I took tent sites 1, 2, and 3 along the river with our sons, and it was great! We had a fantastic time, fishing and exploring the river. The hosts were attentive and accommodating. We would definitely go back.

We had a great time at Rusty's retreat. The hosts are fantastic people! The land is beautiful and peaceful. Listening to the creek at night is the best. My kids had a great time. We stayed on site 3 with our one year old and our dog for our first camping adventure since our baby was born. It was exactly what we needed—beautiful, peaceful, and also very convenient. Jay and Heather’s hospitality for a campsite was better than most Airbnbs I’ve stayed! If you’re daunted by lugging your camping gear into a spot marked “secluded”—don’t be. They helped us move everything we needed in a golf cart (and we brought a lot because of our baby). I loved birdwatching and listening. My husband loved fishing and walking in the river. Our baby loved to the ponies and Rusty. Our dog loved meeting another dog friend! We cannot wait to come back! Even if site 3 isn’t right for your family or setup, I guarantee you one of the other spots will be!

This is a very nice location, and the hosts were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The camp sites are well thought out and designed as camp sites. This is not just parking in someone's back yard like some locations are. The hosts have put real effort into making a pleasant location. Highly recommend.

Rusty's Retreat with pond and river

We bought this 125+ year old farm in 2010 with the hope of bringing it back to life. Overgrown and neglected, we have worked hard to make it a nice place for hiking, kayaking, fishing or any number of other activities. Peaceful and remote, the property has a beautiful brook that leads you to the South branch of the Portage river. Deer, turkey, geese, herons, mink and fox are just a few of our natural animal friends. Rusty the steer and his pony friends Lexi and Little Bits can be visited while they graze in the pasture. There are chickens and Brindle the barn kitty. We have the perfect place for dogs as well. We have four dogs that get along great with others and our fenced pond keeps them safe.

Baltimore orioles, Cedar Waxwings,eagles, bluebirds and pileated woodpeckers pass through. Arrowheads have been found everywhere. There's peace and quiet in the surrounding area. Situated on the grassy bank of the Maumee with a natural boat launch. Adjacent to Metropark towpath between Waterville and Grand Rapids. Your fee includes propane and propane lantern, firewood and gas for the generator, plus use of boat, life vests and oars. Property has a fire ring, picnic table, grill and charcoal, sanitary outhouse and ample parking. Cabin has a microwave, Keurig, wood stove, futon, loft with full size bed, 5-gallon thermos of water, and electricity from a generator. No running water or kitchen. We provide twin sheets and pillow for the futon. We also make the full size bed in the loft.
