On the morning of Sat.Nov 22, 2025, the Farm will host a 5K Perimeter trail run/walk, with Campsite 1 as the finish line. Therefore, it is closed for camping on the 21. Sites 2 and 3* will remain open, but please note there will be extra people in the waterfront area on the morning of Nov 22 until 11am.

The Spruill Farm belonged to the Spruill Family for over a hundred years and has been set up as conservation easement protected land in '23. It includes hardwood forest, swamp, a beautiful swimming beach* on the Albemarle Sound - one of the largest freshwater sounds in the world-, acres of farmland, vegetable garden and perhaps the largest fig orchard for hundreds of miles around. The purpose of the Spruill Farm is to further environmental research, promote ecological education and sustainable practices, and provide access for the public to the ever-diminishing shoreline experience. Please enjoy the incredible sunsets and woodland views, while respecting the serenity of this unique gem on the inner-banks.
Wildlife on the property include Red Fox, River Otter, and 95 species of birds, including Bald Eagles (2 nests on the farm), nesting Osprey, Wood Ducks. Visit the 'Spruill Farm Conservation Project' on inaturalist(dot)org to see all 95 species, and upload any images from your observations.
Because it is a nature preserve, please read the guidelines and rules closely if you choose to book with us.
*Note: the shoreline changes with the wave action and the seasons. This makes the Bobby Wilkins shoreline trail so beautiful- always changing.

Another wonderful trip in the books at Spruill. We brought a hot tent this stay and Site 1 was just perfect for our Christmas camping trip! It was such a peaceful break from the usual holiday hustle and bustle. With the cooler temperatures, it was a wonderful convenience to have the port-a-potty and firewood close by. The sunsets, of course, did not disappoint and it was such a treat to experience the differences in nature here during the off season. Can't wait for our next stay!

Fantastic location for coastal camping! Sit by the fire and listen to the sounds of the waves. I enjoyed kayaking and walking the trails. Julia was hospitable and responsive with clear directions.

We absolutely loved the site on the sound! The water looked like glass and the reflection of the trees was beautiful! The sunset was gorgeous, and it was a wonderful place to get out into nature away from all of the noise!! We will be back!

As always, the site is well maintained, owners friendly and amazing....and the views beautiful. We have been here many times and will continue to do so. I absolutely recommend visiting and staying more than a few nights.
The area is dog friendly and separated enough from each camp site to have privacy. The ability to purchase dried wood is always a plus!

What an amazing campsite! Stunning views over the Albemarle, well-marked nature trails, birdsong. Hawks over the fields during the day, barred owls at night! Very quiet, even with other campers on the property. Virtually no bugs (thank you November!) Julia and Lincoln are awesome hosts, easy to reach and very communicative.

The campsites have perfect waterfront views. Even with all three occupied they are still offer some privacy and plenty of room to spread your gear around. Bring your canoe or kayak. There is water access.
The sites were free from litter. Not even a speck was found. There are benches around the fire pits and a picnic table provided. Well-seasoned hardwood firewood is available on site for a nominal fee. A non-potable water well with a pump is available between sites 1 and 2.
There are several trails available also. All were on the provided map at the gate. They were maintained and very well marked with signage and color coded ribbons.
Even though it’s secluded and VERY dark at night, a locked gate behind us gave us a sense of security. We knew no one was going to trouble us.
The host was very communicative. Even though we didn’t require assistance, we knew she was available and eager to help. She provided very detailed maps to the farm and to the camp sites. Follow the instructions and you can’t mess it up. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, it was so peaceful, and look forward to our next visit.

The land here is gorgeous. Camping out on the edge of the sound brings joys of eagles, osprey, great blue herons, and many other birds. The sunsets and sunrises are dazzling to watch from the campsite. A fire pit helped nip off Autumn cold with a wide canopy of stars above. There’s also a little trail system to walk on.

We had a great time camping at the farm. Being on the water was amazing. We did car camping and got to see sunset and sunrise as well as kayak. The porta potty was very very clean and there is plenty of stocked up fire wood for fires sold at a fair price. We hope to come back one day!

Great site! Site 2 combines some of pros from sites 1 and 3 and adds a few of its own! The weather was super windy coming off the water but the tree line between the site and the water did break it slightly. There was also enough space to park the truck right up close to the tent to take the brunt of the wind. This site is huge with at least 3 possible spots to put up large tents and a few other possibilities for smaller tents. There is an extra large picnic table and several benches. It is also a nice centralized location for the water pump, wood pile and porta potty. This trip was too windy for a fire, so we cooked inside the tent, but there is a firepit with lots of seating around it. While the weather didn't cooperate this trip, we still had a great time. Can't wait for the next trip! Winter camping, here come!

I had an awesome solo weekend getaway. Put simply the area was very private, you’re right next to the water, and you can mentally getaway. I had the pleasure of running into the owner (by accident on the way out, shout out to Julia) and she let me know of the walking trails that were around the property. Super sweet lady and she really cares about your experience. Just book it already and have a good time! I’ll be going back this winter!

I’m a solo female traveler, and safety is very important to me. I did car camping on Julia’s land, and it was such an amazing experience. You get the beauty of the farm, as well as a waterfront view on the campsite. I fell asleep to the sound of owl calls, and I woke up to the soft crashing of the waves.
There are clearly marked trails throughout a wooded section of the property with pretty views of the water. I walked the trails before breakfast, and went for a swim in the sound before I left. It was a really peaceful space where I felt completely immersed in nature. I’m planning my trip back already.
Thank you Julia, for sharing and maintaining this beautiful land, and for sharing your mission. I also appreciate you checking in on me and making sure everything was going well.

Julia & Lincoln were perfect hosts,
The farm itself is a special place. The campsite was more than I even expected. Everything from how they had it set up to how much thought they put into the trails and all the other aspects of the property. The views are incredible and sunset was amazing. Make sure to book time with the kayaks to paddle the Cypress Forest. It's a wonderland within itself. Also. I highly recommend taking time to hike the trail. We will definitely be returning, trying to figure out our next trip dates.

I love the seclusion of the campsites. There are only 3 and they are spaced apart for privacy. I also like that there are 2 port a potties! The only thing was ours was smelling something terrible when we were down wind of it. It obviously hadn't been dumped before we go there. The site itself is great, lots of trees, right on the water and a small sandy beach to walk on. I would live there if I could! Julia has made sure you had what you needed to have a great time. Large fire pit with benches all around and cleaning brushes to clean the top of the grate. Don't worry about water, there is an old hand pump for your water needs, to wash your hands, NOT to drink! If you like to explore there are trails in the woods that you can explore. I always feel very safe there as the gate to the property stays locked. It is the best campsite I have discovered so far. What a great camping experience at Spruill Conservation Farm! The campsites are nicely tree covered and right along the Albemarle Sound. Owners are attentive but not overly in your space. You can tell they really care about this conservation project.
Fire pits are in good shape and the ports-potties are as clean as any I’ve seen. The walking trails were an added bonus. We did the perimeter trail, which loops around to the sound and cypress trees. Don’t miss them! I also rented a kayak and paid for firewood. Really convenient to have and fairly priced. The sound of the waves at night and the cool breeze along the shoreline made this spot extra special. It’s also nice that there are a couple of restaurants nearby if you want to venture pit and grab a bite.
I’d definitely come back!
