The front area includes their home, garden (guests can take produce), and a shop for their turf business. Chickens roam freely near the host house, so pets should be monitored. There are also calm honeybees on site. Hipcamp sites are located at the back, along with a pond for swimming and fishing. We have a 5 acre suburban campsite that is quiet, yet close to amenities. Located in south Lincoln between Highway 2 and the city limit, near shopping, restaurants, and breweries. Our property has a small seasonal creek with a walking path next to it and through a forested area and meadow. Cottonwood Creek Camp has one RV site and one Tent site. This can be a peaceful place to stay for a quick stop, an extended stay or even during Husker game-day weekends. We are 6 minutes from Southpoint mall which offers a shuttle to Memorial Stadium. Super Target, Aldi's and many other grocery stores are only 5 minutes away. Disc golf and mini golf courses are 2 miles away. There is also access to the Lincoln bike trails via our residential streets. Laundry is available on site for an extra fee.

Our property is a quiet stretch of rural southwest Iowa farmland near Hawthorne, centered around a peaceful, stocked pond surrounded by wide-open row-crop fields. This isn’t a commercial campground—it’s a simple, private slice of the country where you can slow down, cast a line, float on the water, and enjoy true Midwestern quiet.
Set about a quarter mile off a low-traffic gravel road, the pond offers privacy, minimal noise, and very low light pollution. On clear nights, the sky fills with stars, and the sounds of frogs and evening breezes replace traffic and city noise.
The pond is stocked and open for catch-and-release fishing. Swimming is allowed, and guests are welcome to bring kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and other non-motorized watercraft. The shoreline is open for walking, relaxing, and finding your favorite sunset spot.
An old railroad caboose sits near the pond, adding a unique touch of character and history to the setting (interior not accessible).
This is intentionally a primitive camping experience. There are no hookups, no potable water, and no restroom facilities at this time. A 110V outlet is available near Site A for light-duty use, and trash drums are provided. Guests should come prepared and plan to be self-sufficient.
We welcome respectful campers who appreciate simple outdoor experiences—quiet mornings by the water, kids learning to fish, or peaceful evenings under wide Iowa skies. If both campsites are occupied, they sit across the pond from each other, allowing space and separation while sharing the same beautiful setting. We ask guests to keep noise reasonable so everyone can enjoy the calm atmosphere.

I stayed at the Fence Post in October, after water was shut off for the winter. HOWEVER, when I made the reservation, the host was very quick to tell me this… so I was prepared! Kathy was great about giving instructions to get to the spot (make sure you don’t come in too close to the building!), and how to leave if backing up was a problem. The area behind me was very spacious so it was “easy” to back out and drive out! ( I say “easy,” because I’m new at travel trailering and backing up isn’t ever really easy for me - yet!!). I was very pleased with how level it was - from a picture I had seen, I didn’t expect that! Woo hoo! Lots of green space available to walk the dogs. This was a one-night stay - just passing through. I noted that others discussed traffic noise. It is true, it is not too far off the road BUT, I didn’t hear a thing (& I didn’t have tv or music on!!)! I am happy to recommend it to other hipcampers! Thanks Kathy… and I hope you have a great winter!

The Fence Post is conveniently located right off highway 29. It was a perfect spot to post up for the night on my journey across the US. There is a nice field right in front of the parking spot. A few reviews mention highway noise. You can hear it but it didn’t feel bothersome and with a fan on, I couldn’t hear it at all.

Quiet little spot along the highway. We did not find it loud, rather we had a very peaceful night. Kathy was responsive and let us know exactly what we needed to pull right in and settle for the evening. One of the campers came and checked on us as well. The only issue is the water is very high in iron, and even with our 3 stage filter we found it unsuitable for use. Otherwise, great spot for a layover!!

Beautiful campground with lots of trees! Amazing for families with many daily and weekend events posted. Ask for a Flo special when treating yourself to an ice cream at the end of the day. It’s not just the ice cream that is special, but the smiles and laughter by “Flo”. Highly recommend this gem of a campground.
