1 night at North Shore Hermitage

What a fantastic getaway. This dry cabin is so cozy and has everything you could want from extra drinking water to dcds stocked for your enjoyment. There's lots of windows, surrounded by woods, absolutely peaceful scene. I spent hours by the campfire in the morning just enjoying the woods and the bird calls. The trails around the property are wide and well cared for. Molly is a fantastic host who respects your privacy but is available for whatever you need. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Woods and Meadows Farm

I was so excited for this getaway - and everything about this place exceeded my expectations!! The cabin was the PERFECT serene escape - from the cozy interior with everything we could’ve needed for comfort/ambiance, cooking yummy meals, and space for reading/games - to the beautiful views of the pond/wildflowers/stars over the field at night - to the labyrinth of well maintained trails to explore on the property. My dog had the time of his life exploring, and us humans are leaving well rested and hoping to return again soon!

Weekend Trip to Amnicon Adventures & Retreats

We enjoyed "roughing it" in the tent at Amnicon. Checking in and out was easy. The tent was as advertised, so we just made a decision to be okay with no electricity, running water, and a few bugs, and we had a positive experience. You do have to be prepared to walk 15-20 minutes out to the tent site, but the camp provided hand carts to transport supplies from the parking lot to the campground. We followed the sounds of the waves through a short path in the woods and found the view of Lake Superior on the shoreline, it was very peaceful and quiet, we LOVED it! You can't quite see the shoreline from your campsite, but you can hear the waves crashing on the shore from your tent, a great way to fall asleep and wake up. This was BY FAR the most affordable option for our trip in the Duluth area, so we were happy to do a little extra walking in order to make our trip to the area attractions possible for our family. We absolutely loved this site. The outdoor shower was a highlight—peaceful, refreshing, and a perfect way to enjoy the natural setting. The campfire being right next to the tent made evenings feel extra special. The tent itself was spacious and thoughtfully set up, with a super comfy bed that made for great sleep. The structure around the tent—including the decking underneath and the metal roof—really added to our sense of safety and comfort, especially when a gnarly storm rolled through. Everything held up beautifully, and we felt secure and dry the whole time. Abe was awesome to work with! We had one site booked for a night and another for two nights, and he made the transition between them incredibly easy. He also checked in on us after a storm passed through and stayed responsive via the app whenever we had questions. You can tell he really cares about making sure campers have a good experience. Would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone looking to disconnect and enjoy some true quiet time in nature!

We had fun staying at the yurt! It was fabulous to have a full kitchen setup complete with fridge, a light, a fan, and an outlet. Outhouse was nice too. Bugs were heavy and the path to the BR could use a solar light or 2. Overall, highly recommend this to those who need more than a tent but less than a cabin.

1 night at Sailor Springs Glamping

Exactly what we were looking for—very remote, peaceful, and private. The hike to the site was clearly communicated in advance, so we were prepared, but it was moderately challenging, especially with gear. The hill down to the fire pit was a little tricky when the dirt was wet, but the beautiful, secluded setting made it well worth the effort. The cabin was spotless, super cozy, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Abe was awesome to work with! We had one site booked for a night and another for two nights, and he made the transition between them incredibly easy. He also checked in on us after a storm passed through and stayed responsive via the app whenever we had questions. You can tell he really cares about making sure campers have a good experience. Kyle and Kelcie were very kind and accommodating hosts. The camper was very clean and comfortable and it was so fun waking up surrounded by the trees. Even though it was chilly, we also enjoyed the swimming pond (right after the amazing sauna!). Would highly recommend!

We loved our Monday-Friday stay in the apartment! It was very clean, cozy and quiet with comfortable sleeping accommodations. The hosts were very friendly and checking in and out was a breeze. Our kids especially loved looking for frogs near the pond and jumping on the water trampoline! We also enjoyed smores (fixings kindly provided by the hosts) and fires at night on the deck. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

An amazing experience all around! Ann’s property is amazing with many trails to meander through. The cabin is beautiful with a lot of attention to detail. There is even a photo album with the Cabin’s history to look through. It is obvious the land and space are well cared for. We stopped for a night on our way to Madeline Island, Wisconsin and it was the perfect halfway point. Ann is very kind and attentive. Even providing extras for our dog. Her dog, Daisy, joined us for the evening and checked in the next morning. Daisy was the cherry on the Sunday! We appreciated being given some farm fresh eggs to cook while camping! We will definitely be back.

Off-Grid Secluded Forest Yurts

Hi there! We have 5 yurts spread across our 40 acres with each yurt having lots of individual space and privacy. We hand built our yurts from scratch using wood from our land and local lumber, as well as sewing all the vinyl ourselves. The yurts are almost completely locally sourced, everything was handmade by us, and sustainably sourced. We are really excited to share the land we love with folks from near and far. Your yurt is equipped with a full sized futon, two burner stove kitchen with all cooking appliances and utensils, 2 gallons of fresh drinking water (as well as oil, salt, pep, coffee, and tea all provided), a small dining table with chairs, and an outdoor fire pit. A short 7 min drive from our property is beautiful Little Sand Bay beach. This free, public use National Park beach is gorgeous with views of Sand and York Islands, great swimming spots, $2.00 hot showers, and kayak launch. Important things to note about your yurt site! The access to our property is via a long dirt road, this road is accessible for all vehicles but it is about a 2min drive through the woods to get to the yurt sites. Once you arrive on the property your yurt is a 2-4min (depending on which yurt you choose) hike up a hill from the parking area. I recommend backpacking in your items. Wheely coolers and bags will not enjoy the terrain. The Portapotty is located at the parking area as well. That being said, a little bit of walking will be involved in your stay :) If you love walking you are in luck and can explore the trails on the property!

These are comfortable, rustic cabins with NO running water (drinking water supplied). “Not "ADA" *Well-behaved, house-broken, supervised dogs, and older children welcome. *It helps us to know your ETA in advance and to update us so that we can plan our day as well! Once you are in the area, message us a bit before your arrival so we can meet you and set you up properly! If we miss you, follow the arrow on the wheelbarrow down the hill. Park at Dragon Loft at 1st right, and Raven Watch at very end of drive. *We have free range chickens and friendly border collie. Sometimes there's a dog staying at the other cabin. Wildlife is also in the area, so we require that dogs be supervised and leashed, for their safety, and our wild animal neighbors. No dogs may be left unattended in our cabins while you go out! Take your canine pal with you! Quiet hours: dusk to 7am. Also consider your dog's inclination for barking. We keep the peace and quiet of all of our guests in mind. *DRAGON LOFT has one double bed in a loft with steep ladder. Great for two people. Room for dog bed or kennel below the loft. Chanterelle Woods Preserve

This property is adjacent to a wilderness area (Pikes Creek) and had been our organic farm for decades. It is pristine, wild and beautiful. We currently have 3 camping sites: a lodge tent for up to 4, a 2-person A-frame tent with cots, and a dry cabin. Both the lodge tent and A-frame tent share a privacy shelter with toilet and shower. They are approximately 50 feet away from each other. You would drive to both sites and park in a designated parking within a short walk from them. The dry cabin is more isolated from the other two and has its own shower and compostable toilet. All three sites are completely off grid. The Chanterelle Woods Preserve has a mix of trees, flora, fauna and wild mushrooms, hence the name "Chanterelle Woods." We ran an organic farm here for decades. When we were farming, we had "woofers" (an international organization of volunteers) who stayed in tents and a camper while here. It was a life changing experience for them....Now we would like to offer this opportunity to "rustic campers." Whether you want to stay exclusively on the land and relax or explore the surrounding area, there is a little something for everyone. We are 3 miles from the city of Bayfield, Wisconsin, which is the gateway to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. We are close to all diverse recreational pursuits: biking, hiking, kayaking and golfing. In case you forgot any outdoor or camping gear, there is Howl Adventure Center, one mile from us, that also has a cidery and a small bar with a food/taco truck and outdoor seating. The Big Top Chautauqua on Mt. Ashwabay hosts all kinds of music, art, and cultural events all summer long. Our property is directly across from Mt. Ashwabay, separated by the Pikes Creek wilderness area offering beautiful mountain biking and fat biking trails. Closer to town, there are quaint local shops and art galleries where you can peruse beautiful pottery, fine jewelry and original paintings made by local artists. Stop by one of the many fine restaurants in town for a taste the best fish dishes freshly caught from the Lake.

Experience upscale camping–Glamping in the Forested Hills of Lake Superior. Sailor Springs is a small three-site campground located just two miles outside of the picturesque tourist town of Bayfield, WI. 2023 will be our first year of operation and we’re excited to host campers on the property and provide a unique camping experience. The campground is spread out over 5 acres of forest that you’ll hike into from Bresette Hill Road. After parking at the trailhead, you’ll gather your bags and hike into your glamping site. The trail winds through the woods, leading you first to a valley where the seasonal Clark Creek runs through in the spring. The first two campsites are on the other side of this valley. The trail can be steep in spots and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility to reach the secluded campsites. The third site is a bit farther into the forest, the little A-frame cabin, Anchor sits on the edge of the spring-fed Brickyard Creek that flows year-round. We have many plans for the property and depending on when you stay, the campground will be in various stages of development. The campsites, trailhead / parking area, and trails are scheduled to be completed in early spring. We hope to add amenities such as a camp sauna and screened-in gazebo later in the 2024 summer / fall. Hello everyone! Thanks for your interest in Balsam Ridge! Many of you folks have been here and know how much we thouroughly enjoy hosting! Some of you also know that we've been caring for my 93 year old mom for the last two years here at our home. Over the winter we realized that as the days progress, so does the amount of care she needs. For this reason we've decided to put our retreat on pause, and give her our best for this last season of her life. We appreciate your understanding. Many folks that have visited our place refer to it as 'country living in the city'. We are so blessed to live in this little piece of serenity just inside the city limits of Duluth. It was once an abandoned house that sat for years, until a friend mentioned to us that it might be going up for sale. We loved the location and rolled up our sleeves. Twenty years later we still marvel at the beauty around us and can hardly believe that we LIVE here! Just down the road is a trout stream and just beyond that was a popular farm that attracted many folks to this neighborhood for hay rides and sleigh rides. The farm has since retired it's horses and closed it's doors to make room for new homes, but memories live on in the beauty of the open fields. I often imagine the sound of horses and sleigh bells and people singing carols and then warming up around a toasty fire sipping hot cocoa. Some of those memories live on right here at Balsam Ridge (minus the horses). Over the years many groups of folks have enjoyed a sense of community in these back woods no matter the season. Campfires, kids catching frogs, neighborhood campouts, snow picnics, hair-raising toboggan runs, family campouts, spiritual silent retreats, a take-your-breath-away giant swing, and some tales too daring to mention are all part of the fun. This is why we do what we do. We've been given much, and love to give back. It just wouldn't seem right to keep all this good to ourselves.

About this space The "Kick Back Tiny Shack" has a queen size bed, small futon bed (for a child) along with two single camp cots. This tiny house can sleep up to four people (2-3 most comfortably) depending on your needs. There is a mini fridge with mini freezer along with a mini gas range/oven, microwave, coffee pot and toaster. There is a TV with only local channels available. Wi-Fi is available at nearby restaurants. AT&T works well here; all others are very sketchy. The cabin has a freestanding gas fireplace to keep you cozy and warm. Come prepared to relax. This is a rustic cabin with all amenities so no need to pack up dishes, bedding, towels, etc. (bring sleeping bag and pillow for anything other than the queen size bed.) The kitchen is fully stocked with your basic cooking and dining essentials. If you don't want to do dishes you are welcome to bring your own paper plates, etc. Coffee, Salt, pepper, dish soap and hand soap, toilet paper and one roll of paper towels provided. There is no running water, but you will be supplied with an electric pump faucet with 10 gallons of water for the kitchen sink for doing dishes, etc. There is also a pump faucet for the outhouse sink. You can heat water on the stove with the pot supplied. In addition, 1 gallon of drinking water will be supplied also. There is a heated outhouse next to the cabin which has a shower stall in which you can shower with an electric pump shower and on demand water heater. Towels are provided and if you need more water, you can contact us, and we can refill at our home which is located next door. Please allow notice in case we are not home at the time. The contact information will be provided with your booking confirmation. You have your own private yard on our 6 acres with a screen tent & BBQ pit in the summer months, firepit and grill off of the back deck year-round. If you chose to bring a four-wheeler, canoe, boat or snowmobile there is plenty of parking space depending on the quantity. Snowmobiles & side by sides are available for rent 3 miles up the road from the cabin. Come and unwind or explore the many wonders that the Northwoods has to offer! The interior of the cabin is newly refinished. The exterior will be improved as time goes by.
