Cedar Hill and Goosberry Glen

Looped by a myriad of campsites, anything from primitive to pull-through electric, Cedar Hill and Goosberry Glen campgrounds are just yards from the Whitewater Valley Visitors Center

Campsite vary in sizes and level of privacy. Take a look at the campsite map for the different types. Cedar Hill (West side) was more private in the forest. Gooseberry Glen was more open allowing for field games and activities.

Most of the campsites have close access to modern plumbing facilities and gathering spaces.

Wilderness inspired campground specializing in hike-in rustic glamping, treehouse cabins and outfitting. Located on Whiskey Hill in the Whitewater River Valley near the town of Elba, MN. The cabins are easy to access with close parking. The hike-in rustic glamping sites offer a rugged backpacking like experience with spacious, secluded sites, creature comforts for a good night's sleep and no equipment required, all designed to immerse guests in the surrounding woodland. The land was used for personal recreation for several years. I've spent countless hours hiking and enjoying observing the seasons, plants, fungus and animals. The vision of a campground was inspired by many camping and backcountry spots throughout the United States, all of the amazing things in the woods, the beautiful blufftop valley views, proximity to a multitude of outdoor activities and adventures. 

Belle Creek Bluff

Belle Creek Bluff is on 28 acres of prime land in Welch.    Belle Creek runs through the middle of the property.   Walk, swim, paddle, fish and explore the this beautiful spring fed trout stream.   There are a number of hiking trails on the property.  Bordering state lands to the east of the property provide endless exploration and hiking adventures.  Hike to the top of the bluff for a spectacular view of Welch valley and the ski hill.  Hiking NE along Belle Creek can you spot the old model A truck along the banks?  There are eagles, falcons, finches, and many colorful birds to see. 

The swing is located on the trail between Mellow Yellow and Island Blue camps!

Fisher Cat Creek Forest Retreat

Four years ago,&nbsp;David and Veronica began designing and building structures in the 20 acre hardwood forest that Davids' father acquired back in 1969. Now they live there full time in an&nbsp;off-grid cabin with monthly seminars, campsites for rent and a passion for sharing the wonders of the forest.

Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland

Welcome ; Located in southeast Minnesota's Driftless region of hills, valleys, fields and forests, we are a grass based working dairy farm with over 100 acres of woodland,
including an extensive trail system and campsites in our wooded acres. What makes this woodland special is it's quiet, secluded setting and over 6 miles of hiking / skiing trails.

Our farmstead sits three quarter of a mile off the paved county highway on our well maintained gravel driveway.

Each of our campsites are secluded from the others with their own sawdust compost toilets, picnic tables, fireplaces, and firewood.

Two of our sites require 4WD with a minimum of 6 inches ground clearance
to access, and two are accessible with 2WD.

If you do not have 4WD we can help transport your gear while you enjoy the walk in.

There are plenty of woodland birds, deer, turkeys, raccoons and squirrels sharing the woods with you. At night it is common for owls to visit the campsite area to say hello, and coyotes talking in the distance. The winding trails through 100 acres of woodland offer a variety of woodland habitats, from Old growth Maple to mixed hardwood, to dense brush, to the edges of open pastureland. Bring your fat bike or mountain bike for an enjoyable ride.

For winter users there is a mix of easy, moderate, and challenging winter cross country skiing
 or snowshoeing / hiking
on the property. However the Rock Bottom Cabin  is our only heated and insulated site and is available for winter booking. Winter access is walk in only with snow on the ground or in the forecast. We can help transport gear.

This property is part of a working pasture-based dairy farm and guided tours of the dairy and cattle are available when scheduling allows.

Children 12 and younger are free at our campsites.
No need to be counted as guests , but please let us know when requesting to book.

We do not allow non-booked visitors to our campsites due to the secluded, remote location, and accessibility.

The English Pale Campground (21+)

IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION: The river edge erosion wall construction is complete. The area is being prepared to have additional river sites added sometime in 2026 depending on vegetation growth. The entire Beach (R3 & R4) will be closed to Campers starting October 1. This is due to hunting season starting. Campsites in the main campground will be still available, but guests are not allowed on the lower 40. Contact Cal or check our Facebook page and web site for more information.  The campground and rental house will open about May 15, each year. The English Pale Campground is located along the Black River in Jackson County, 1 mile west of the Village of Melrose. The entire property only allows guests and occupants who are 21 or older. Sites/house can be booked 6 months in advance. The main campground is 70 feet above the river. We have 5 rustic (no hook-ups) RV/Travel Trailer/Tent sites, a fully furnished “Manor” House, a travel trailer as well as 2 rustic beach sites that are located along the river. The property is a total of 70 acres, which includes the 4+ acre beach, a mile of river front and trails through the woods that connect them all. 

The English Pale opened in 2021 and is a developing property. In late summer of 2025 an erosion wall was built along the Black River. This included clearing of a section of the forest, building a gravel access road and an riprap river wall to prevent further erosion. Since 2016 over 60 feet of the riverbank has washed away.   

Our property offers a reasonable expectation of privacy and we do not offer day passes as our target guests are campers.  We are an adult only property, but not a nudist campground, as that is not our central theme. We do not prohibit our guests from nudity for the purpose of sunbathing on the beach, campsites or sundeck, but nudity is not allowed in general common areas. Part of our nature is allowing discreet nudity for tanning purposes. While we target couples for time together, singles and groups are welcome. This is NOT a party campground, our goal is to let you connect with nature.

Ranch Retreat Camping

Our ranch has been in our family for 15 years and, before that, belonged to one family for over 200 years.

40 acres where anyone can find their little piece of “peace.” We pride ourselves on taking excellent care of our guests and making them feel at home when they step onto our land.

We will do our best to accommodate your needs in any way possible.

Our WIFI is not always 100% reliable. If you need WIFI during your stay, please bring another option with you, such as a hotspot on your cell phone, in case ours is not dependable.

The Edge

This 160 acre farm used to be a sod farm, and then a Christmas tree farm. Camping provided is in the remnants of the uncut Christmas tree forest which is about 6 acres. Small little get away from Rochester.  Airport traffic, but it is enjoyable.  10 minutes to downtown Rochester. PLEASE KEEP DOGS OFF OF THE BEDS IN THE CABIN.

The Back 20

The Back 20 is is a cute and secluded place to rough it. Completely private half mile off the road. Please read entirety of description and how to access property before booking.The Back 20 is an ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK PROPERTY!!!!! There is uneven ground/terrain, trip hazards, valleys, loose stone, brush hazard to vehicles, no way for emergency vehicles to enter this property successfully type of hazards. We are not responsible for any injury/death you or your guests may incur while navigating property and by entering property you agree to such terms. This is a No Trespassing without permission property.&nbsp;Access To&nbsp;the Back 20: This is a HIKE IN ONLY PROPERTY!&nbsp;You are also welcome to ATV or&nbsp;Snomobile back there. Cabin is half mile off road, be prepared in case of inclement weather or tough conditions for the hike. There is parking area located just off the road before the trail starts to right.No HUNTING without permission!!! We manage this land properly for all hunters and non hunters to enjoy. That being said no hunting will be allowed on property of any sort unless you have prior permission. Guests caught hunting without permission will be considered Trespassers.This is a Dry cabin. There is no water on property. In warm conditions the water barrels may/may not be full. Feel free to use the water from them for dishes or bathing outside. It is not drinkable water and bringing your own drinking water in is necessary.&nbsp;There is an outhouse and a small boat toilet in the home. We prefer you to use the outhouse overall. If use inside toilet, you must rinse it outside and clean before leaving. Large deck with picnic table and no one around. Completely private! Great spot to be in nature. Clothing optional!This property is like camping with a cabin. You will need to bring pots pans dishes cutlery as it is not provided.. Wood stove heat in winter. Must bring your own wood or scavenge on land.  Very homey and wonderful way to rough it!

Serenity Valley

Come escape to 40 acres of peaceful Wisconsin wilderness—a true getaway from the noise and stress of city life. This is off-the-grid living at its finest. Nestled on this beautiful land is a charming 2015 Amish-built cabin that offers a cozy, rustic retreat surrounded by nature.

Enjoy your morning coffee or evening sunsets on the wrap-around porch, where you’ll likely spot plentiful wildlife in their natural habitat. During the summer, the land bursts with wild raspberries and blackberries for you to pick and enjoy.

Inside, you’ll find a warm and inviting space with a wood-burning stove, sitting area, and taxidermy décor that adds to the authentic rustic cabin atmosphere. The cabin comfortably sleeps up to six, with two double beds in the loft and one double bed on the main floor.

Step outside to cook over the outdoor fire pit, or take a peaceful walk along several private hiking trails on the property. Beyond our land, you’ll find picturesque lakes, charming local shops, and cozy restaurants just a short drive away.

We hope you enjoy this special place as much as we do—our little slice of paradise.

Please note: There is no electricity or running water. There is an outhouse for guest use. There is also taxidermy inside the cabin, contributing to its rustic, nature-inspired charm. This is 12x24 cabin with a loft.

Water Hookup

Lanesboro Acres

This property is located in the South Branch Root River Valley, halfway between Lanesboro and Preston, MN.  It features two main areas: the lower 10 acres and the upper 14 acres.

The lower 10 acres offer a wonderful setting for an RV setup, complete with a 20-amp electrical hookup and water (please note that 30- or 50-amp electrical service is not available at this time). Wi-Fi is available on this parcel. This area is shared with a pergola, garage, and bunkhouse that serve as the owner’s personal dwellings. Firewood is available for purchase, and all campfires must be kept in the provided fire globe. A porta potty is also onsite for guest use.

The upper 14 acres include a 5-acre agricultural field and a 9-acre campground area. While this area has no additional amenities, it provides the perfect opportunity for a fully rustic night under the stars. A large, spacious bell-style tent is set up for your use, so no need to bring or pitch your own. A fire globe and porta potty are also provided.

The property itself is stunning & gorgeous, with a wildflower meadow and plenty of walking trails.  Guests are welcome to explore the entire property at their leisure and enjoy the many scenic vantage points (including a south facing bluff overlook).  It’s truly a special place with a splendor of variety.

A smooth, paved, multi-use trail system spanning about 60 miles. Ideal for biking, walking, rollerblading in summer, and cross-country skiing in winter. It connects Lanesboro with Fountain, Preston, Harmony, and Houston.

Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center (~10 miles)

An adventure-focused spot with hiking and mountain bike trails, zip-lining, a high ropes course, canoeing/kayaking, plus stunning views over the Root River valley.

Sylvan Park & Bunny Trail (right in Lanesboro)

A tranquil, family-friendly pocket of greenery with campgrounds, fishing ponds, a playground, and the charming Bunny Trail - perfect for an easy stroll with kids or dogs.

Inspiration Point Wayside Rest (~2 miles southwest of Lanesboro)

A historic roadside overlook built by the CCC in the 1930s, offering sweeping views of the Root River Valley and a taste of New Deal-era architecture.

Prairie View Camp

Enjoy the sweeping prairie and sunset views from your camping area.&nbsp; All sites have access to toilet facilities and water, each site has their own picnic table. Hike right from your tent onto 80 acres of prairie, woods and valley views. Lots of wildlife and wildflowers. Kayak the nearby Chippewa River. 

Shockingly few mosquitos for the upper Midwest due to the lack of standing water.

The campsites are located on a working homestead, complete with old farm house and gardens. 

Site 1, Bee Balm is shaded by nearby trees and is closest to the shower and toilet. If you are camping with a trailer we recommend the Bee Balm site as there is more space and better access.

The highlight of Site 2, Oak Grove,  is a shady grove of young oaks that you can set your tent up under.

Site 3, Meadowlark, is a tent site surrounded by prairie grass about 20' from where you park. It has a picnic table but no fire pit.

Shady Rest Acres

Once the site of the historic V.J. Fetzner Brewery from the late 19th Century. The land is now used as a hobby farm, honey bee sanctuary and nursery to a unique tree species normally not found in Southeastern Minnesota.

Remnants of the brewery are still visible. Foundation walls outline the massive structure of the brewery. Nestled in the center of the foundation is the entrance to
the sixty-seven foot deep cave that
once held barrels of beer and can be accessed by canoe only. 
Hops have been located on the property and are believed to be ancestors of those raised to make the beer once stored in the cave. The pond that provides access to the cave was dug out in the early 1990's to create a fish out for the Spring Falls Trout Farm that used to exist across the highway. Some of the original brood stock still exist and continue to naturally stock the pond. It is not uncommon to see fish that are five to ten pounds in size. We do not allow fishing from our pond.

The residents house is built to scale to the original brew master's house. While the house is only twenty-four years old it looks as though you have taken a step back in time. The name Shady Rest was given to the house by
the Brew Master's wife.
We thought it was appropriate to keep the name alive.

Shady Rest Acres is comprised of twenty-three acres of beautiful woodlands and pasture that are protected forever
in the
Minnesota Land Trust. The pasture is home to Scottish Highlander cows, two miniature donkeys, five sheep, four goats, honey bees and a flock of chickens. Scottish Highlanders
were selected for both their grazing and browsing abilities. They are very docile and make excellent pasture mates to the smaller species sharing the pasture. The cows are excellent forest managers. They
clear out invasive species such as Honey Suckle, Buckthorn, and Barberry which can often be difficult to manage. A guided tour with the host can be taken to meet the pasture animals.

The forest is comprised of many tree species. Some are unique in that they normally do not grow in this region of Minnesota. The yellow birch is a species normally found in Northern Minnesota. It's bark is golden in color and glistens when the sun hits it just right. We have a cluster of several yellow birch including one that is so big that the bark no longer looks golden but instead is grey and very rough. Years ago the largest of these trees made excellent wood for turning bowls. Blue Beech (musclewood) can also be found on the property. As the name indicates the bark is shaped like muscles. Songbirds and some other species will use different parts of the tree as a food source. Towering white pines also speckle the landscape. Mother pine requires at least two humans arm lengths to encircle the whole tree. She is a favorite resting spot for the barred owl. There is oak, elm, maple, ceders, poplars and numerous other species.

Honey bees are an integral part of the landscape. We partnered with a friend and
started raising honey bees two years ago in order to do our part to keep pollinators thriving.

Their hives are located in the pasture where it has the perfect amount of early morning sun to get them moving and afternoon shade to balance out the summer heat. It is not uncommon to see them pollinating garden plants, trees and wild flowers around the property. One of their favorite feeding spots is the acre and a half prairie which offers a range of plants including big blue stem, wild indigo and baby blue stem, to name a few. Not only are honey bees essential to the food chain but they also provide a very enriching experience when they are observed moving about their hives. There is nothing more relaxing and fascinating than watching these amazing creatures.

We got to hold baby ducks (with supervision)! 

The children (with guidance) were able to gather fresh eggs for our breakfast!
