Need a quiet, secluded getaway? Our off-grid cabin is on approximately 10 acres of private woods. As you turn off the main road into our cabin's driveway, you will begin to understand why this is our hidden gem. Enjoy the coziness of a wood stove in the winter or a crackling fire in seclusion in the summer- this little getaway cabin is sure to create fond memories. Maybe you will hear the horned owl at night or see an eagle while you kayak. Your adventure or a peaceful vacation awaits.
The 450-square-foot cabin has a queen bed in the loft and two cots that can accommodate more guests. Guests must be able to climb a wooden log ladder.
The kitchen has a two-burner stove and oven that can hold a 9x13 pan. Although we do not have running water, we do have a hand-washing sink and a sink for washing dishes. We also provide you with plenty of water for washing and drinking during your stay. As it is well water, you may want to take your own drinking water, if you prefer. We also have dishes, utensils, hot dog sticks, fry pie makers, pots and pans, a tripod grill for over the fire, and a small charcoal grill (bring your own charcoal). You will also want to bring a cooler to keep any food cold.
Outside, we have a fire pit, wood to collect or purchase, and a hammock to fully enjoy your stay. Our bathroom is an outhouse and has been described as the “cleanest outhouse in Michigan.” Our latest addition is a seasonal rustic outdoor shower! We provide water that is heated by solar power (or you can heat some on the stove to hurry the process!) The shower is seasonal - only available from May to September.
Within 1/4 mile is the St. Joe River which is a great place for kayaking. We also have kayaks and quads for rent. We also have some short trails on the property and a railroad bed adjacent to the cabin area.
Our cabin is powered by a small and very quiet Honda generator. It is super easy to start. The cabin’s main source of heat is a wood stove with wood we provide. An air conditioner is provided for the summer.
For more than two people will be an additional $10 per night per person.
Pets are a $25 per pet additional fee.
Pets are not to be on furniture and not to be taken into the loft for their protection.

This is a great spot off the beaten path. A hidden gem. Scott and his wife were super welcoming on their property and we're able to help with anything we needed. Deer walked thru the camp and property. Lovely walking path thru the property as well. Very welcoming. We will definitely be back soon.

If I could give this 10 stars, I would. Peaceful serenity at its finest.
I'm a seasoned, rustic camper & decided on a spontaneous, last minute weekend away & came across Way Way Back & their Bell Tent. Knowing it was going to be a beautiful day Saturday, but rain Saturday night & Sunday, I didn't want to waste the weekend. But not having to take down a wet tent & pack wet gear, that sounded wonderful. Wonderful is exactly what it was.
I got there later than expected Friday night & it was pitch dark. Jeremy was in contact with me during my drive down & told me to message him when I was close so he could lead me to the tent. Unfortunately I didn't have cell signal as soon as I was about 1.5 mile away, but I stopped at the house & he led the way. Was I ever happy that he did, daylight wouldn't have been difficult. I was delighted to discover that I was the 1st guest of the Bell Tent & was it ever cozy. I lit a fire, got situated, then slept luke a baby. When I woke the next morning to a breathtaking view of the fields & woodsnext to me, I was very excited. My dogs lived it too, 15 yr old Maggie decided to wander into the woods to discover a nlce little river, he favorite. To my surprise she was sharing a drink with beautiful doe only 5 ft from her. Only wish ai had my camera to catch that special moment. Zowie and I walked up about 10 ft away & just watched for a few moments before she wandered off.
I can't wait to go back!!

Weekend Trip to Camper On 11 Acres, Private Site
This was our first time using Hipcamp and it was a great experience. Place looks just like the pictures, beautiful and cozy. Far away from town to feel like you've gotten away but close enough that you can run and grab something at walmart or get a bite to eat if you don't feel like cooking. Scott was a great host, we were having a hard time getting our fire going since it had been raining a few days before. He came to our rescue and we sat and enjoyed chatting for the evening. Inside the camper was a cute little smore set up that we took advantage of. It was clean and spacious. You could tell it's been taken great care of. Will definitely be back!

We had an absolute blast! Scott and Christine were extremely accommodating hosts. The camper was stocked and clean, the campsite was well lit and so nice and quiet. We saw deer and turkey in the mornings, sipping coffee by the fire. They have all the tools and utensils you may need for cooking either in the kitchen or on the fire. 10/10 would recommend and will be returning. Thank you!

A lovely experience! It was a spot covered by trees and when it rained overnight, barely anything was wet the next morning. The walk from the parking spot to the camping spot felt shorter than it looked on the map and was so green to walk into. Appreciate having firewood available on site!

Following my review on the main campsite, this one was a great addition for my larger group. Scott helped us back in our pop-up camper. There’s a few different ways to park your camper if it is similar to our pop-up. The extra site has its own picnic table and fire pit. Close enough to the main site to feel like you’re camping together, but far enough to feel private as well. Full hook-ups were available as stated in the listing. Would definitely recommend to larger groups!

Scott and Christine are very friendly and welcoming. They made sure we were all settled in and even helped us back in the pop-up camper to the extra campsite. So honored to be the first group to use the extra site! My group included 7 adults and 1 dog. We had a great time relaxing, playing games, and making some amazing food over the fire! The campsites felt very private and perfect for camping. The weekend we stayed was hot and humid, but the AC in the camper felt amazing. The camper was spacious and had just about everything you need. There’s a nice trail that was perfect for walking the dog. Thank you Scott and Christine for being amazing hosts and we loved getting to know you! We would love to stay again!

I ended up getting to the campsite really late and it was pitch dark after doing some extra hiking earlier in the day. The directions given were perfect and a motion detector light at the trailhead was really helpful. I was the only one camping that night in the big clearing. It was a nice set up, especially as someone used to backcountry camping.

This is a very great place if you want a more "roughing it" experience.
The couple who runs it were really great down to earth people. It's awesome that they are willing to share their Beautiful forest with people. It's a quarter mile walk which is not that bad especially if you travel light. I have a heart condition and a pacemaker and we have a 5yr old and had no problems. Returning to your vehicle is mostly uphill so plan your trips. The forest was great and alive at night. I was very surprised that mosquitoes were not horrible. We had family natural care repellent and BBW eucalyptus spearmint lotion and fine. The ONLY thing to watch out for is if you are highly sensitive to poison ivy. There was alot all over the northwest part of the land and around the camp site. We kept our shoes outside the tent and had no issues.
I hope to come back soon. It was a very quiet and peaceful place. So glad they are willing to share there little treasure with others.

The campsite was incredibly private, large, and clean! If you are confused about the toilet situation, there is a little pop up tent with a portable toilet and some sanitary stuff in there. The hosts were super friendly and had some great suggestions for where we should go for the day. They also had some friendly dogs in addition to the horses and donkey. The site is about a 20 min drive away from a really cute touristy town on Lake Michigan for a nice day at the beach. We also went during berry season, and there was a pick you own farm really close by with some local goods to buy as well. First experience with Hipcamp and I had an amazing time at Elizabeth's place!
