Nestled in Manistee National Forest is a family farm. Trailheads lead to hundreds of miles of public two-track, and the woods roll between oak/maple/beech and aspen/birch. On the farm is a 20 acre lake with a floating island, tent sites, and healthy ecosystems with plenty of wildlife.Our farm pastures pigs, cattle, sheep and poultry, investing in our dirt and our neighbors. We are provision family farms because we provide for our animals even as we are provided for. Drop on in at the house and we may have time for a little tour.In the woods is a small composting toilet, but you're welcome to fertilize our pastures anytime. There's also a shower available in the house.The best time to visit Michigan forests is in October when the leaves turn color and the nights are cool. The mosquitoes are done for the winter and the air is brisk.

The terrain is hilly and scenic, offering abundant wildlife and hiking. Pets may be off-leash if supervised. Bonfires are permitted in fire rings, but caution is advised. Feel free to bring ATVs and dirt bikes for trail riding. Generators are allowed, and bonfire wood is provided, so there's no need to bring your own. Should you choose to camp outside designated sites, please clean up the area. Respect for others is paramount in this non-judgmental space, and mutual respect is expected. The campground welcomes tobacco and marijuana use; however, please dispose of all filters properly. The night sky here is a must-see, with stunning stars. Children are welcome but must always be accompanied by an adult. There's a gas station and dollar general less than 5 minutes away!!

Nice spot with a concrete pad not too far from 31. A bit of road noise, but it quieted down at night. I was there for a quick stay, so, unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to enjoy the trails.

The camp spot on Luke's farm was lovely. While we requested the kayaks for their pond, we did not end up using them. The space was very private. We had a little trouble getting to the space as the direction listed in the booking did not land you immediately into the space, but more like adjacent. We arrived late and it was dark out so we had a tough time knowing where to turn, there was very little signage to indicate where exactly to go, and we did not have the best cell service. We made it to their farm and we were given a map.
Overall, i would stay there again and recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and peaceful time out in nature. The views of the autumn foliage were abundant. Thank you!

We loved this camp. We travel with our 3 dogs, and this is the perfect place for them to have their space to romp around. Firewood was at the campsite when we got there, a beautiful lake, and seclusion. We came to area to mountain bike the dragon trail, this camp is a great home base for bikers.

I thoroughly enjoyed camping with family on Scott's land! There are plenty of electricity posts as water outlets all over which is great. He even has wifi which was nice for the kids when they got board. [Kids, their always board even when their not 🤦♀️]

We absolutely loved camping at Back Road Ranch! There was so much space for the kids to play and enjoy nature and it was private so we didn’t have to worry about bothering neighboring campers! The amenities were so nice to have and were so essential for our large group. The host is very responsive and helpful, We look forward to coming back and camping here again next year and definitely recommend camping here! Thanks again Scott!!

The campsites were great, lots of space for the campers as well as additional vehicles or tents. The campsites had shade most of the day which was nice during the hot days. I think it’s good to know that the entrance is off a dirt road but it was easy to find and well marked.

Not your typical campground, you’re just staying on a little corner of their property/farm, but it’s super cute and peaceful! The host was very friendly and accommodating. Very quiet and isolated. Would recommend, especially if you don’t mind a bumpy road and hanging out with the farm animals.

Great campsite near silver lake with great amenities! Little noisy surroundings at times with the ATVs/dirt bikes riding the trails but I think that is to be expected with the area. Loved having the place to ourselves. Would highly recommend for a large group or multiple families.

Backroad Ranch was wonderful! Lovely property surrounded by 360 woods. Super private, and Scott was very kind and responsive. Has tons of picnic tables and water spigots which were great for our large group, and a nice communal fire pit area. We enjoyed stargazing from the grass opening in the center. Will definitely be back!

We had a great time tent camping at the Beaver pond site. It's bare basics but if you're an avid tent camper, you'll know how to make it work. We were happy to have the outhouse offer privacy. The sun setting across the pond was absolutely gorgeous and we took the kayaks out to paddle through the reflection of clouds floating in the water. When the sun was down, out came the fireflies and the stars. At night we were serenaded by coyotes and woke to birdsong. The host was super friendly and helpful, and offered a tour of the cool looking farm, but we had plans to go hiking but next time!

This is an absolutely perfect spot if you want rustic, private camping. Nothing but peace and quiet, and kayaking, and birdsong, and cut firewood. Beautiful views of the sunset across the lake. Lots of trees for shade from early morning sun. Location is great for swimming at Diamond Lake.
Luke was an excellent host and provided plenty of firewood and delivered the kayaks to the site. Plus gave us some fresh meat treats for our dog.
Highly recommend this if you really want to get out into the country.
