1 night at Glamping with the Wild Horses

Our family of five (kids ages 5, 9, 12) had a great time. This is a family-run operation. Mac Kenzie and her husband and in-laws were superb hosts who went above and beyond to meet all of our needs--extra fans, hats with bug nets, frozen water bottles, you name it. We were there on a very hot summer day. The dome was hot and stuffy during the day but cooled down to reasonable sleeping temperature at night. The outhouse was clean and not one bit smelly. The campsite had some extras we were not expecting--bug spray, spatula and tongs for the BBQ, towels. The two double beds in the Comfy Contrasts dome are lofted one over the other. The three domes are very close together, so had there been other guests, we would effectively have all been camping together. The hike with horses was extremely worthwhile and gave us a much better understanding of the work Wild Ride does. They took us on a comfortable, easy walk to accommodate our kids, so don't be intimidated by the description of the hike as steep and strenuous. We did a little other hiking on the property, but there wasn't a whole lot to do. or see. I would definitely recommend this spot if you have activities planned nearby (and Mac Kenzie and co were full of recommendations) but would not suggest relying on the property itself to provide all your entertainment. Thanks so much for everything!

Perfect! Trisha was fast to respond and everything was organized and ready. Our spot had nice privacy and level ground to set up. Picnic table, fire pit, little trail lights to outhouse...what else could you want?!? We had a great stay. We biked into town and had a nice breakfast at the diner. Thanks!

Weekend Trip to Glamping with the Wild Horses

We had the most amazing weekend with our 7 year old. The hosts were so warm and kind and we loved learning about how to train wild mustangs. We went on a hike with the mustangs and they all have such unique personalities. What a gift this place is for them. We also found it to be a gift! The domes were beautiful- comfortable beds and a small private space to change. The three of us were very comfortable in Serene dream but we will bring our other two children for the bunk beds next time! The bathroom (outhouse) was so nicely decorated you forget about the smell ;) The campfire was fantastic and there was wood ready for us. My husband and son played corn hole and we grilled for dinner. The grounds are fun to explore and all while seeing the beautiful mustangs roam! We will definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Souhegan Shores

Perfect site for tent camping with my dog! We were at Site #2 which was very private out by the river. You could hear the river rushing as you fell asleep at night and it made for a great way to cool off during the day. There was a wooden deck covered by a tarp with benches and a table for the brief moments when it was raining. Toilet accommodations were comfortable. Would definitely recommend this site if you’re looking for a secluded experience.

Great camping site with all the necessary items (picnic table, tarp, bathroom, flat ground). Felt secluded and private despite being close to town, very friendly host and a bonus dog! Unfortunately weather prevented us from swimming but the river looked great!

Super peaceful camp with a smart setup, huge tarp covered platform and gorgeous woods and river. River is great for wading and fishing. No road sound. Occasional airplane flyovers. Huge hit with this fishing family.

Our stay at Bob’s was great; our pups enjoyed the freedom of play time at our camp. No noise from the outside and inside camp area. Bob was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Bob assisted us with our trip down the river with vehicle drop and directions for floating down the river. It was simply beautiful, relaxing and enjoyable!

This place is magical. Beautiful, impeccably clean and decorated - even the bathroom was incredibly quaint. McKenzie was welcoming and kind. I wish I could stay for a week. We'll definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Rehovot Glen

We loved Rehovot Glenn! It was very private and quiet. Though there was a short walk to the site from parking, it was well worth it. Michael and Jenner were super friendly and helpful (not to mention have the most adorable dog!). We would definitely suggest a visit if possible, but if visiting in the summer, bring some bug spray 😀. There are nice trails both on the property and in the general area plus some great parks and attractions that are conveniently located.

Weekend Trip to Rosy Goat Farm

Rosy Goat was exactly what we needed, exactly when we needed it. Trisha’s place is a warm, soft space to land to get away from it all. It was our little one’s first camping trip and the gorgeous property, bustling farm, bevy of animals, and manicured camping area were perfect to introduce her to the world of nature. The camping area has a wonderful, natural lawn (or the perfectly flat wood chip beds) to house your tent; large beautiful trees to shade the area; a high-quality outhouse for when nature calls; and the most wonderful daily alarm of birdsong and bleating to start your days. We enjoyed a lovely rain on our last morning, and although the hosts don’t control the weather, the site they curated is an amazing backdrop for a rainy morning. We ate Rosy Goat eggs in the morning and took the farm tour to see how the chickens who lay them are managed—recommend. We enjoyed ice cream and the nearby farmer’s market, as well as walks on the property and even a swim down in one of the nearby rivers. 5/5 stars. Will be back!

2 nights at Winimusett Farm

I had magical experience at this little cabin. It was my first solo trip and it was refreshing. I loved learning about the history of the farm and the cabin. The landscape was breathtaking, the cabin was cozy, and I had everything I needed. I particularly liked the couch in the cabin. I saw so many stars at night, saw lightning bugs and bats, and heard an owl. I could go on and on. Long story short, I highly recommend this cabin.

We had such a wonderful glamping experience! Mackenzie was a wonderful host. Our kids absolutely loved the horse training demo. It was a highlight of the trip and so special to be a part of it. The hiking trails were peaceful, and the outdoor tub was the perfect way to unwind and soak in the natural beauty around us. It was both fun and relaxing. Really a perfect blend of adventure and serenity. Highly recommend! 🌿🐎✨

Trish was very friendly and welcoming. She responded quickly to texts and welcomed us when we arrived. The goats were a hoot! The geese were not as happy to see us but they learned to tolerate us after a while. Great place to enjoy animals.

Camp above the bank of the Souhegan River under shade of oak, hickory, blue birch, hemlock and white pine. Let the song of the rapids sing you to sleep. Maybe the resident owls will join the serenade. This slice of heaven is only 5 minutes from the Everett Turnpike and within an hour of Boston. Weather concerns? The best forecast we've found for Merrimack is https://www.wmur.com/weather. Want to see what the river is doing? Check out https://water.noaa.gov/gauges/SOHN3. 500 CFS is a sporty run with canoe or kayak. Anything under 200 is great for swimming with kids. SPECIAL NOTE: June 22th Update River has dropped to 200 CFS which means it's at a nice level for both swimming and boating. Roads are passable. We just had campsites and surrounding trails sprayed for mosquitos and are seeing a sharp improvement on those pests. Keeping the campfire burning helps as well. More description... Site-1 is located under the trees adjacent to our 3 acre meadow and Christmas Tree farm. Camp near the bank of the Souhegan River in the shade while listening to the river tumble over the ledges upstream. In season, enjoy the chest deep swimming hole 100 feet from your campsite. Two horses graze on the other side of the privacy fence. If you don't like friendly dogs try site 2 where we have a better chance of keeping our dog Wilson from dropping in to visit. He loves people too much not to want to greet folks on Site 1. Site-2 is at the farthest most downstream end of the property and from mid-May to mid-October it is totally screened by foliage. From your site you only see trees and the river. If you don't like other dogs, this is the site you want. Still no guarantee Wilson won't visit, but it's easier to keep Wilson away from here. The other side of the river is town conservation land so the only people you're likely to see will be passing by in kayaks or on paddleboards. In dry season, both sites are a great place to start a float trip and you'll likely have the next 1.5 miles all to yourself since rapids up stream become impassable wet rocks in July and August. You are only two traffic lights away from the Merrimack Premium Outlet Mall if you need something to do during inclement weather.

Welcome to Rosy Goat Farm!! We are the quintessential family farm/homestead, our farmhouse was built in the 1840’s Bill and I bought this 13-acre property in 2012, It was overgrown with wild roses. We have worked with a limited budget, and used animals to clear the land. The goats love the wild roses. The pigs dig the roses up. Chickens rake it clean. Win win! Very interesting place here- lots to tell you, there’s quite a list of things to do and see around here! Did you know that Gilbertville has a covered bridge? It is one of the last covered bridges still in use in Massachusetts! First- a touch of Hardwick History: Rev. Timothy Ruggles bought this land from the Native Americans for his family to live on, and to work the land. His son, Brigadeer General Timothy Ruggles became unpopular after he introduced the Stamp Act, and was banished to Nova Scotia. His daughter Bathsheba became the last woman executed in the United States for the murder of her husband Joshua Spooner. (There’s a book about it called Murdered by his wife, by Deborah Navas.) Want to know local eateries? For breakfasts and lunch there is The Whistle Stop diner, it was a former Boston & Albany Railroad station. Speaking of railroads, did you know that The Mass Central Rail Trail runs through Gilbertville! Rose 32, is a well known bakery that serves tea, coffee and sandwiches. There’s Hardwick house of Pizza- for tasty pizza and subs, which also serves beer. Feeling fancy? Try Hardwick Crossing Country Club (features a 9 hole golf course), it has a restaurant with a full-service bar, gorgeous scenery! Its a 3 minute drive from here Mimi’s for your morning coffee and lunch, yum! And it overlooks our beautiful Common! Also check out Stone Cow Brewery in Barre -has a kids play area while you wait for your meal! Ware has Mexicali Grill, Theresa’s Restaurant for Italian foods, Bellies Barnyard for traditional American cuisine, and, Pig Park BBQ for comfort food! Farmer Mat in North Brookfield has take out meals- there are picnic tables available, beautiful views. Things to do: You can kayak, and fish, at Swift River in Belchertown. Hardwick is the home of the oldest agricultural fair in the US, held every year in August, and, every Sunday there’s a small farmers market on the common. Hardwick also has a winery- Hardwick Vineyard and Winery, they have all kinds of events, (find them on facebook) and, check out Lost Towns brewery- the name is a throwback to the 4 towns that were submerged to create the Quabbin Reservoir! Medicine River Pow Wow is in August here in Gilbertville, on River Run Rd. The East Quabbin Land Trust has birdwatching and fabulous views, and the Mass Central Rail Trail entrance is located here. Bike it or hike it! Quabbin Reservoir is close by for boating and fishing. There are free concerts in Grenville Park in Ware, (check for dates). Ware also has Janine’s Frostee ice cream and fast foods- and live music on weekend nights! Also check out these on line: Ragged Hill orchard and Rock House Reservation in West Brookfield, and Carter and Stevens farm in Barre. The Leicester, and Mendon movie drive-in’s. Old Sturbridge village is 30 minutes away. Lake Lashaway has a swimming area in East Brookfield, right off of Rte 9. It’s about 20 minutes from here. Lake Siog in Holland has a lovely picnic area and beach for swimming. (30 mins South from here) Is this area great or what?!

The 1.3 acre parcel across the street from the house and farm has a forested peninsula that the A-frame is located on. Our street ends in a small stream that continues to separate the farmstead from the A-frame site. Come stay in our tiny rustic A frame cabin built of mostly reclaimed materials. Enjoy being across the stream and over the bridge from the main house on a private peninsula. Enjoy the privacy of a "single site" camp! Use the fire pit, grill, outdoor wood stove, single burner butane stove or umm the bathroom :) without having to leave your site! Please be aware we are in town and you may hear road noise, lawn mowers, dogs, ect. You may also see and hear wildlife ex; deer, beavers, ducks, muskrats, rabbits, geese, foxes, and coyotes. We encourage native plants and work to provide a sanctuary for many threatened bird species. The cabin is 100sq. feet with sloping interior walls the flip up side wall is permanently open and screened in. There is no running water or electricity so unplug and unwind. A place to plug in and the water spigot a short stroll from your cabin in the driveway The cabin has a a full size mattress with sheets, blankets, throws and pillows. Lanterns, cooking utensils, camp mugs and camp coffee pot are provided. Please request the cast iron skillet and butane burner, it will not be in the cabin if you do not ask for it. You are also welcome to set up your own tent. Please note cleared space is limited and the tent should be a 1-3 person smaller tent. Outside on the deck are tiki torches, woodstove and bistro table. There is a hammock, picnic table, and 2 sets of outdoor chairs at your site. We do not have a swimming hole but the town beach is 5 minutes away and requires a day pass. If you forget something you are a short walk to Cumbies, and several farms, bakeries and a large grocer are a very short drive away. Venture farther (10 minutes) to one of the nearby hiking trails. We are within 15 minutes of the Blackstone Gorge, Southern New England Trunkline Trail, Cornier Woods, Franklin State Forest, Wojcik Farm, Cook's Valley Farm, the New England Bonsai Museum, Diamond Hill Vineyards, Caroline's Cannabis, Shire Conservation Area, New England Country Club, and many stables. The Commuter Rail to Boston, Wrentham Premium Outlets, and a Drive-in Theater are within 30 minutes. Use us as a base to explore Blackstone Valley, Boston and Worcester!! Bring supplies as if you are camping ie bedding, hammock, tent, sleeping pad or inflatable mattress. There is a long wooden table up in the barn loft that seats 14. There are games up there too, (dominos, cards, trivial pursuit etc). You may also camp outside under the starry skies. No loud music. Noise off by 10.30pm please We provide a VERY clean porta potty and the barn has electricity and running (cold) water. Bring a solar portable shower should you need.
