Carter's Cross Country Ski Center and Shop has been a family-owned business since 1984. The land on which the trails have been built on has been in the Carter family since the late 1700's. The first Carter who came to Bethel was the first doctor in the area that helped Mollyocket, a Native American medicine woman. All the different generations that came along after were either farmers or loggers or both. Carter's XC Ski Center is located on the banks of the Big Androscoggin River. Our private established skiing/walking trails meander through the Maine woods all the way up to Farwell Mountain, overlooking Sunday River Ski, the Presidential and Mahoosuc Mountain Ranges and Mt. Washington. Nearby is Middle Intervale Farm, owned by John Carter, who produces his own vegetables and meat. He has a small, self-serve farm stand right on Intervale Road, next to Carter's. I spent the weekend at Coreysha’s cabin and had a great experience. The cabin felt private, quiet, and surrounded by nature — exactly what I was looking for to unwind. Everything was set up thoughtfully with the basics like lamps, a battery pack and a small cooking area. I really enjoyed the peace and the clear night sky. Even though it’s tucked away, it still felt comfortable and safe. Would definitely love to come back.

The way she had everything laid out (from towels, to coffee, extra books, kayaks etc) was so thoughtful. The area down by the water is so peaceful and we went on a nice kayak ride. We were pleasantly surprised by this adorable, well-kept tiny house! The area is beautiful, the lake is a short walk away, and the kayaks were a fun addition to the trip. Tina was a wonderful hostess. Would definitely recommend this as a place to stay to get away if that's what you are after, but with many things to do nearby!

Really beautiful cabin that felt very private. It was set up so well with lamps, battery banks, water for cleaning dishes, a foot pump shower etc. Coreysha had also picked some flowers for us and left them on the picnic table. Couldn't recommend this spot enough. My fiance and dog loved it as much as I did. Wouldn't hesitate to book again

Tina was so accommodating and has cute seating areas in every spot you'd love to sit and take it in including the water. We had a great time here. The owner was very responsive to any questions we had, and the pictures online were very representative of what the reality of the place was. Location felt off the beaten path (which we wanted) but the grocery store was only 15 minutes away. The rental came with access to some kayaks and a really cool tent with everything you'd need. We had a wonderful stay. The cabin is surrounded by nature..saw birds, fox, frogs, snake, turtles. So peaceful. You can sit in the screen tent and enjoy your surroundings. Another seating area by the fire pit, plenty of wood cut and ready. Walk a short distance to another screen room on the pond, 3 kayaks, binoculars, towels, life jackets, seating, dock. This was the location for snake and fro, did not see until my daughter went looking. . Turtle was meandering down the dirt road. The cabin is small, cozy, and so well put together. All you need for cooking, bedding, towels, stove, oven, microwave, fridge, outdoor grill is right there. We will definitely come stay again. Bring a good camera and binoculars. Market 5 miles down the road is an IGA grocery with a pizza and sub shop. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Camp Fern was the perfect getaway. Anne fired up the woodstove & I arrived to a warm & cozy cottage. My favorite spot was watching the sun set from the upstairs. I enjoyed the quiet and beauty of nature. Fantastic communication from Anne. I look forward to returning some day.

Weekend Trip to Carter's XC Ski Center

Everything about Stonewall Cabin was just what we hoped and expected. The interior was impressively clean when we arrived. The setting (in the woods, right on the trail network) was pretty and convenient for XC skiing. Highway noise (from quite a few miles away) is audible from outside the cabin, but otherwise, the setting feels very secluded and natural. There was plenty of firewood and water in the provided jugs, and the gas lamps provided good light for reading and cooking (we brought our headlamps, but only used them for nighttime trips to the outhouse). Great stock of board games, too!
