If you are visiting the New Iberia area, this is a great place to stay. It is an urban farm with many innovations. In this garden, you can see intensive gardening methods, water collection systems and even bio gas production. So it’s not only a convenient place to stay. It’s a place to learn about unusual gardening techniques.

What a great place to stay a day or more and enjoy the property. They grow green leaf veggies, herbs etc there and it is very well organized. The grounds keeper, Jen is delightful and a go getter.
The house is surrounded by flowers, shrubs etc and is beautiful.
Elect is limited to no more than 15 amps, the outlets are 20.
There is some mild local road traffic but very reasonable noise and quiet at night.
It is the best hipcamp we have stayed at.
We thank Phanat for offering his property for a stay in New Iberia.

A wonderful spot to crash and visit the various attractions nearby. The Tabasco Factory etc was great!
Traffic on the neighborhood road is not bad and the sound of the train, two time during the night was not very loud.
The Farm and grounds keeper, Jen is delightful and very helpful. She does the whole farm to Market with the produce.
Wish we lived closer so we could visit this quaint and great hide out.

We loved staying at Phanats garden, it is a beautiful respite from a largely industrial area. It was so lovely to check out the gardens and so many plants and beautiful brick buildings. I would say this hipcamp makes more sense if u have an rv or trailer, tent camping was okay but it did rain and the grounds flooded (which Phanat warned us would happen so no fault to them). We felt very safe and would stay again albiet maybe during a dryer season.

Our stay at De' Thibodeaux was great. The forest surrounding our camp felt private and secluded. The open grass fields between the campsites created an open air atmosphere. At night, you could hear a symphony of crickets and owls. The lighted bridge across the canal into the trail felt magical. My only drawback was that I brought too much gear. I was not prepared for the amount of walking it would take to get from the campsite, back to the vehicle. Otherwise, it was an amazing area.And a lot of culture and sites to be seen in surrounding areas.

Super convenient stop if visiting Tobasco factory and gardens. Trying to do the trek from NOLA would be brutal. Had 120 volt probably 15 amp ready for me. Unreal garden with vegetables for locals. Super friendly and my dogs could be off leash. Thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay at Phanat’s property! The area is very flat and safe, and appreciated the use of the bath/shower to rinse off. Phanat gave us a quick tour before dark. It is very impressive what he is doing in this part of town to provide fresh food to folks! Loved it and would definitely recommend and come back 👍

Recieved the gate code the day I arrived. Had a great shower and sat in the garden until it got dark. Due to on going travel only met host for a short time, but his set up is perfect. Mini stove allowed me to make hot tea and noodles.

We had a wonderful time at Phanat's property. The gardens are stunning, and Phanat himself is incredibly kind and deeply involved in the community. We had the chance to meet him and learn about his projects, which was very inspiring. The site is well-equipped, felt safe at night, and had everything we needed. There are dogs around—including two on the property who are super adorable and very welcoming :)—so some barking is to be expected. Highly recommended!

I would definitely recommend Phanat’s land! It is truly an oasis in the middle of an urban neighborhood. I am a solo female traveler with a camper van. Phanat is a gracious host. He went out of his way to accept my last-minute stay and accommodate me very comfortably and safely during a severe winter storm advisory. I was able to park my van inside a gated area that also had a friendly trained guard dog named Peanut and multiple security cameras. I had access to electric and complete bathroom facilities. I came to New Iberia to meet Father Michael Champagne of Saint Martinville (jesuscrucified.net) and was so impressed and overjoyed with his mission work in this community that instead of one night, I wound up staying for three nights. Phanat’s Iberia Market Garden is likewise an amazing sustainable homestead that provides fresh vegetables and employment opportunities for locals residents. I truly enjoyed my experience here and left rested and restored in my faith in what we can all do help each other out in our own unique ways. Thank you again and I hope to return soon!
