WELCOME TO BUTTE LA ROSE, THE HEART OF THE ATCHAFALAYA BASIN AND THE HEART OF ACADIANA:
In the early 1930s, when the Army Corps of Engineers carved two long levees right through the Atchafalaya River Basin, what had once been a widely sprawling river system prone to seasonal flooding became a fifteen-mile-wide "spillway" contained between those two earthen walls. The water level in the Basin rose by several feet, permanently flooding many areas, and people who had made their homes there eventually moved to communities on the dry, western side of the levee--Henderson, Catahoula, Bayou Benoit and beyond--leaving no trace of the old settlements behind. Only one community remained. Perched on a ridge along the banks of the Atchafalaya River, Butte La Rose is the only community in St. Martin Parish that is still located between the Basin levees. No other place can claim to be the heart of Atchafalaya as credibly as Butte La Rose can. The community is nestled against one of the more winding meanderings of the Atchafalaya River, and residents remain closely tied to the river and other nearby waterways--fishing, crawfishing, frogging, and hunting, enjoying bayou-side crawfish boils and pleasure boating. So many waterways surround Butte La Rose--Butte La Rose Canal, Henderson Lake, Lake Begneaux, Lake Pelba--it's as close to an island as you can get without actually being an island.
We are only 3 miles from Interstate 10, but we are a small remote camping village.
Many hummingbirds visit here every year. They arrive in March and leave in Sept.

She and her husband often brought us fresh vegetables they raised on their "little piece of heaven." They had no children and all these years later, their idea of heaven became ours to take care of now. We are so blessed here at Payne Lane Farms.
You can safely camp in your travel trailer minutes off of I-20 on our wooded, rural lot minutes from town, convenience stores, food, and even dump stations.
The front orchard provides a refuge of shade and privacy while also allowing you to see everything around you. Rayville, Louisiana has great history and heritage and some fun artifacts to explore if you have an adventurous spirit. Good people and family owned businesses if services are needed while enroute-traveling.

We originally booked two days at the Snow White Sanctuary, but after being evacuated from our last campsite due to a thunderstorm, we changed our booking and arrived a day early. We were hoping to find a dry place to air out our tent and get a good night's sleep, but when we arrived, we realized it had just rained that morning in Vinton as well.
The site itself is absolutely beautiful, with friendly farm animals wandering around. Pamala was great—super helpful and friendly—and she showed us every corner of the Sanctuary. However, we were still really concerned about a flood warning message I had just received on my phone, and we didn't want to risk having to evacuate in the middle of the night all over again!
Sadly, we decided not to stay overnight, but knowing how wonderful the place is, we will definitely come back in the future when we're more prepared!

Loved spending the night at Yoga Barn! Jan is the perfect host. The property is well kept and the facilities are just as described. I particularly enjoyed taking a nice hot shower after a long day of driving and waking up to early morning quiet and only bird sounds around me. I have stayed here twice and it will remain on my list of places to come stay when driving West and back home.

We were here for 2 nights with 17 ft camper and 2 dogs.
Everything worked great and we had a wonderful time.
Like any beachy area, there are some goathead burrs. My dogs only encounter 1 burr the whole time. They loved the beach. We had them on long ropes so they could enjoy the water.
Only warning would be to protect yourself at night from mosquitos. Turn off all lights before opening your door. Welcome to the south.
Overall, very relaxing and quiet. Enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets. Would stay again. 😊

I stopped here to tent camp as the perfect halfway point on a trip. The first time I was greeted by friendly dogs and cute animals but didn’t know where to go and it was getting dark, so i set up by the barn and felt odd. The second time I met the host and I realized there was a road that went along the water and had little private camp sites, which i could drive right up too. It was so nice and beautiful! And much quieter over there. Alyssa was so sweet and awesome. I appreciated having the nice indoor bathroom. This was my first time solo camping and I felt really comfortable there. I adored all the animals. They are so fun and cute. I want to go back and visit them some time!

This spot was exactly what we needed. My son (12) was tired of sleep camping in the Jeep with me through Cracker Barrel’s and truck stops across 5 states. He wanted to sleep by himself in a tent. We needed to charge our EcoFlow power station, too. So Damon’s spot gave us a night to refresh and each have a night to our own space before moving on.

Quiet spot but close to everything you want to do in Baton Rouge. There was one tent camper there the whole time we were there (they looked pretty permanent/settled) and 2-3 others who came for the night but were gone by morning. We were in the RV spot which had a great view of water and easy to access hookups. We have a small camper (under 20ft) and it was easy to get in and site was pretty level. The site is on a loop which was about 1 mile around and a nice walk. Minimal traffic

It’s so peaceful! We had a rush stay, got there right at dusk. Yet…it was oh so beautiful. The morning fog off the pond was spectacular. The fire pits are great. The horses! I am really looking forward to going back someday! My wife loved it too! Her first time tent camping ever!

Ahhh this place is so special and unique !! My first time staying in an animal sanctuary. You can tell the animals are incredibly happy there and treated well as everyone of them is friendly, including the emus which is not something I expected! The property is beautiful and Alyssa is incredibly sweet and welcoming. The stars of the show are definitely the animals, the cutest tiniest little piglet I ever seen called snoot, two beautiful horses, big fluffy dogs that’s love people, a pack of goats that are so funny to watch. There are also ducks, roosters, pigs.
This is a must go to for any animal
