Welcome to Big Branch Apiary, a 50 acre honey and blueberry farm north of Lake Pontchartrain. We're bounded by the Big Branch Wildlife Reserve to the south and a Rails to Trails bike path on the north. We are 3 miles from Lacombe to the east, 4 miles from Mandeville to the west, about 3 miles from Fountainbleu State Park, and an hour from New Orleans. Most of the farm is a mix of hardwood forest and wetlands. Desert Bayou and East Branch Bayou meander across the property. The farm has deer, foxes, bobcats, owls, fireflies, otters, raccoons, turtles, and, well, about anything common to the wilds of the Gulf South. This includes a litany of snakes, mosquitoes, and deer flies in season. About 8 acres are used to raise poultry, bees and organically farmed blueberries. Overall, the land feels primordial and pristine. We are a designated Monarch Waystation and in the spring and fall see many migrating butterflies. We cultivate a lot of flowers so almost year round you can see butterflies in profusion. We are part of the USDAs Conservation Stewardship Program, concentrating on protecting and increasing habitat for animals and pollinators. Pets are welcome but please leash them. Campfires are allowed except on rare occasions. You can hunt for deadfalls in the woods on the farm, or we can provide firewood for a small fee. Our honey, fresh eggs, and homemade sourdough can be purchased as well. This is a rustic situation: think dry camping, outdoor (heated) shower, and outhouses. We have a tiny treehouse, an A-frame, a glamping tent, and several places to pitch a tent. The farm is pretty secure--someone is on-site most of the time, it's gated, and there are security cameras at access points. But it is a farm in a rural community--you may hear roosters crow, sheep bleat, dogs bark, and the sounds of owls, hawks, coyotes, and other native wildlife. I was traveling through, camping in my car with my dog, and we just needed a quiet, grassy, peaceful, dark at night, place to stay where we didn't have to listen to people's TVs or music in their RVs or their generators. I would most definitely recommend Damon's land for camping! It was peaceful and quiet but not too far from town. As a solo female camper, I felt safe. Having access to the RV (which could have been a little cleaner, but was not the worst public bathroom I've seen!) with a flush toilet, hot running water, and shower was a game changer for my trip ~ I had planned to split my 2 week vacation between camping and hostels, but decided to camp the whole time! I will camp on Damon's land again the next time I am in Louisiana!

I would definitely recommend this spot to others! It's peaceful & quiet. Beautiful area right on the river. Having access to the RV with hot running water, a shower & flush toilet was a game changer! Host Jen was quick to reply to my concerns. She offered a resolution that, though it would have cost me quite a bit more, would have helped me out with a detail I missed in the listing. When that resolution turned out to be unavailable at the last minute, Jen helpfully reminded me that it was my mistake in the first place and honored the original charge with no further inconvenience to the host. I wasn’t able to use the reservation or be refunded, however intend to book these accommodations again when my attention to detail improves! (Thanks Jen for the good advice!) Even as a self-described new host with a recently purchased and expensive property, she is very committed to justice and it’s always so refreshing to meet someone who keeps us on our toes! Immaculate mowed lawn area perfect for a tent. Bucolic setting on a small farm. No picnic tables but I used my camping table and it was fine. I did see a fire ring. Bugs disappeared after sunset and temps dropped. Refreshing and relaxing overnight stay with wifi and a shower.

Was amazing! Kid friendly and just people friendly in general! Tons for the kids to see and do animals galore we really enjoyed having the dogs pop by through out the night the kids loved them. The only thing that bothered us slightly were the bugs, but once we got the fire going we were golden! Easy 5 star experience!

I loved staying at Snow White animal sanctuary. We got to enjoy the property and all the diversity of farm animals and wildlife that are abundant on the land. The property is green, lush and gorgeous. The animals graze all around you at all hours.

I enjoyed my stay at Williams. I had the place to myself for the night. It was very nice to allow my dog to run free off the leash. The summer heat in September was still in the 90s, but the outside shower came in clutch to cool off and refresh. It was the first time my dog saw a horse! I think shes mesmerized. Only downside would be the bugs. Make sure you bring some spray. I didn't realize how bad I got chewed on until a few days later. There is a train that passes by so be aware of that for anyone that's trying to completely get away from city life.

Weekend Trip to Snow White Sanctuary

This place was beautiful. There were so many different kinds of animals. The pond next to our site was perfect to take my sons out on their row boat. Alyssa was very kind and gracious. We had an excellent experience and definitely plan on going again.
