I loved everything about camping here! It was such a unique experience and the hosts were super welcoming and friendly. There are sheep, chickens, bees, puppies, and a beautiful berry farm to wander through. I’m sad we only got to stay here a night while passing through. Will be back to see Cheri and Conway Twitty!

We had booked a group trip and right off the bat, Cheri & Tim were SO warm & welcoming! They made sure we were taken care of from start to finish (ie. they had an extra picnic table delivered to our campsite because they knew we were a big group). The property itself is so beautiful and full of life. There are berries all over the place and lush fields to dance & frolick in. The farm and all the animals are so much fun and well taken care of too. Special shout-out to the albino peacocks under the apiary!! They caw'd with us in the outdoor lounge all night! I can't recommend this place enough and will most certainly be back for another community trip. Thank you again for hosting us!!!

Weekend Trip to Big Branch Apiary

Enjoyed my stay so much last week that I booked another stay this weekend. I cannot say I enough how much I love staying at this property! Cheri is great and every other camper I've encountered is friendly. The Bayou Tent is fantastic and the bed is so comfortable. Being able to sit out front and eat at the table while still being under a shade is wonderful. I love this property and will be back soon.

7 nights at Big Branch Apiary

I cannot count the number of times I have returned to Big Branch, each time discovering something new and pleasant. Cheri and Tim are consistant with their hospitality, allowing guests both privacy along with opportunity to participate with the life all around the farm. The A frame was so lovely! At night you can see the stars, lightening bugs, and hear the hum of the frogs, crickets. It feels very cozy, quiet and peaceful. The two legged, four legged, feathered, buzzing bees and baaing sheep are a weclome site, sound and experience on the farm. Cheris bread is to DIE for, along with the delicious farm eggs and soon to be more and more plentiful Blueberries. All natural and healthy straight from the farm! I'd highly recommend it for a local getaway or travel destination.

4 nights at Cajun retreat Campsite

We really enjoyed our week at Cajun Retreat! Maria & Timmie are gracious hosts with a beautiful property. We much prefer the waterfront view compared to most RV parks. Pull thru site made setup super easy in our 32ft motorhome It's very peaceful at night with only the sounds of owls hooting and frogs croaking down the bayou. The location is close enough to town for convenient shopping, but far away enough to be secluded from the sounds of traffic. You can relax in the Adirondack chairs around the firepit, nap in the provided hammock or swing in the amazing double zero gravity chair swing (our favorite). We can't wait for our next relaxing Cajun Retreat!

My family had a brief, but magical visit at Big Branch Apiary. Our host, Cheri, was simply wonderful and welcoming. Our two children, ages 7 and 5, did not want to leave the property as there was so many animals and areas to explore. We’ll definitely return for a longer visit next time.

Weekend Trip to Big Branch Apiary

I have stayed at the Bayou Tent on two occasions and both exceeded my expectations. It's about 10 minutes from downtown Mandeville where I went for dinner and music. The glamping tent is fabulous... I just love lying in the bed and being able to look through the screen up into the sky....absolutely magical. No sound machine for sleep needed here as there is a symphony of bayou creatures making beautiful sounds. You can walk around the property and see the farm in action...barn animals, chickens, bee hives, etc... Incredible! Compostable toilet was very clean and had zero bad smell. A few things to remember to bring....a power pack to charge phones, some solar lights or a headlamp, bug spray, and water.

Cheri and everyone else were lovely and so helpful (lending us a pan, helping us fix a bike, and telling us about the farm and the animals), the kids loved the animals, the location was beautiful and biking on the trace was so convenient and fantastic fun. Cheri's farm is fantastic. The shower facilities are awesome. Gotta love camping with some of those creature comforts. Speaking of creatures...the dogs, the sheep, the chickens, the lightning bugs! I loved them all. The homemade sourdough loaf was delicious. The A-frame was a great size and the mattress was really comfortable. As with any outdoor activity in south LA, make sure to bring your bug spray. The Apiary is located so close to so many trails and as a solo female camper I felt completely safe. The A-frame has a lockable screen door and curtains for privacy and the toilet/shower area is close enough for a 3AM trek if you just have to go. I really wanted to stay an extra night but couldn't make it work. I'll definitely be booking with Cheri again as soon as I can.

We loved camping here! It was a great setup and was an easy place for us to camp while coming from a far distance. The only thing I would mention is a rooster crows pretty early in the morning and it can be hard to sleep in. My little one in particularly struggled with this early wake up call. But it was a beautiful piece of land and Cheri and her husband were so kind and accommodating to us. We were very grateful to enjoy their lovely land!

We ended up here when FSP was fully booked, and we were very pleasantly surprised! Our son loved walking around to see the farm animals, the camp toilets were clean and close to the rv hookups, and the shower area was large, clean, and easy to use. Friendly farm dogs hung out by our setup and entertained the kiddo. We even got to see hatching and recently hatched baby ducks! Quieter and more peaceful than rv sites at the park but still super close to everything. We’ll definitely be back!

Big Branch Apiary

We are a honeybee and blueberry farm on 50 acres north of Lake Pontchartrain. We're bounded by the Big Branch Wildlife Reserve to the south and a Rails to Trails bike path on the north. We are 3 miles from Lacombe to the east, Mandeville to the west, about 3 miles from Fountainbleu State Park, and an hour from New Orleans. Most of the farm is a mixed hardwood forest with designated wetlands. Desert Bayou and East Branch Bayou meander across the property. The farm has deer, foxes, bobcats, owls, fireflies, otters, raccoons, turtles, and, well, about anything common to the wilds of the Gulf South. This includes a litany of snakes, mosquitoes, and deer flies in their season. About 8 acres are used to raise poultry, bees and organically farmed blueberries. Overall, the land feels primordial and pristine. We are a designated Monarch Waystation and in the spring and fall see many migrating butterflies. We cultivate a lot of flowers so almost year round you can see butterflies in profusion. We are part of the USDAs Conservation Stewardship Program, concentrating on protecting and increasing habitat for animals and pollinators. Pets are welcome but the chickens often run free and chasing them, or the deer, ducks, sheep, etc., is not acceptable so keeping your pup on a leash when near the farm animals is encouraged. Campfires are allowed except on rare occasions, and fires help keep the mosquitoes at bay. You can hunt for deadfalls in the woods on the farm, or we can provide firewood for a small fee. This is a rustic situation: think dry camping, outdoor (heated) shower, and outhouses. We have hookups for one small RV or camper close to the barn. In addition, we have a 10x10' treehouse, and several places to pitch a tent. The farm is pretty secure--someone is on-site most of the time, it's gated, and there are security cameras at access points. But it is a farm in a rural community--you may hear roosters crow, sheep bleat, dogs bark, and the mule bray along with the sounds of owls, hawks, coyotes, and other native wildlife. If this sounds like it suits you then come on!, stay and enjoy the farm life.

Opal Springs Nature Haven

The property is an old homestead recently reclaimed and being brought back to life after many years abandoned. Early 1800s Bulgarian immigrants started a little community here called Stein. The old railroad used to pass through and there are alot of artifacts scattered throughout the property. We are in the process of cleaning up the old cabin built in late 1800s suprisingly still standing. The hardwood forest has a creek running through that is virtually untouched and home to wildlife of all kinds. Birds and wildlife of all kinds have a home here and no hunting allowed. Some trails have been cut and there are some natural trails for exploring the property through the hardwoods and campers are welcome to make new ones. A spring fed pond is great for fishing or just relaxing under the majestic live oaks. If Mushroom foraging is your thing you are in luck after a nice rain. This place had the best of southeast Louisiana and truly is a hidden gem. We are still in the clearing process so there are alot of projects going on but we definitely have some cool spots to pitch a tent. Host is on property in shipping container and willing to make accommodations as needed as we have electricity but are pretty much off the grid.. do not have an outdoor bathroom but could set something up with little effort. Have running water for solar shower or creek bath if you'd rather. Since we are still rebuilding there are some piles of lumber and things that may be unsafe for small children and animals. I have 2 dogs on the property with me but are fenced and friendly. If you have any questions just ask!

Only one community remained. Perched on a ridge along the banks of the Atchafalaya River, Butte La rose is the only community in St. Martin Parish that is still located between the Basin levees. No other place can claim to be the heart of Atchafalaya as credibly as Butte La Rose can. The community is nestled against one of the more winding meanderings of the Atchafalaya River, and residents remain closely tied to the river and other nearby waterways--fishing, crawfishing, frogging and hunting, enjoying bayou-side crawfish boils and pleasure boating. So many waterways surround Butte La Rose--Butte La Rose Canal, Henderson Lake, Lake Begneaux, Lake Pelba--it's as close to an island as you can get without actually being an island.
