The last week of May is hay cutting time, which is a great time to visit our farm! Roaring Shoals Farm is a Black Angus cattle and hay farm. It is a family farm set in the beautiful hills of eastern Kentucky. We have 600 acres of mountains that have amazing views, hiking trails, wildlife and tranquil creeks. Our family would love to welcome you to our farm! Learn more about this land: Roaring Shoals is a family farm.  This campsite  is a double capacity with full hookup, located in a rural community halfway between Jackson and Salyersville on Highway 30 East. The site is close to the road; however there is much woodland to explore located on the property. We have small waterfall and a natural rock formation that can be hiked to.  There is a shoal a very short walk from the campsite that is a wonderful place to enjoy the creek! There is great cellular service if your device uses Verizon towers, as there is a tower on the property.  This is the perfect place to come and relax if you are visiting the area.  It is approximately 12 miles from a small town with local restaurants and convenience stores.   Our farm raised , dry aged black angus beef can be purchased if available; please check availability by calling a few days prior to your stay.  You may also purchase firewood that was harvested from our property which is a certified tree farm.  Our cattle are raised on another of our properties located a few miles up the road.  We would be happy to schedule a time to take you there to see where they are born and raised.

This camping experience takes place on a 200+ year old farm. We currently offer multiple camping options, most of which are only accessible by either all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicles.  The first location (along the main road) is solely for RVs or travel trailers (TT). The other camping locations are for tent camping, and much smaller/narrower and rugged RV/TT with a 4-wheel drive towing vehicle. Daniel and Cherith Kennedy purchased this 164-acre farm in 2014, and Daniel's parents, Brent Rita Kennedy, purchased the 1800's era farmhouse from Daniel and Cherith a couple years later. Together, we have transformed this farm back into a working farm with hay fields, cattle, donkeys, goats, sheep, chickens and any other critters we buy or rescue. We are currently rehabilitating the 1700's era one room schoolhouse at the front corner of our land as well. This farm is full of memories, hard work, and is absolutely stunning. Your hosts on-site are Brent and Rita Kennedy, and they are famous for spoiling our guests rotten. They can give you tours of the farm, some in-season eggs and veggies as they have available, and even throw in some petting opportunities. They love having visitors and are sure to make your trip memorable. Deer, Racoons, Opossums, Bobcats, Bear, Fox, Groundhogs, and Turkey have been spotted on the property. We are a great spot for bird watching as well! Camp Grassland: Two of our prepped campsites are on a flattened area of the hillside field with access to a fire pit, log bench, and porta-potty. This location is in direct sun with beautiful views and easy access from the road. Parking at the top of the field is recommended unless you have a 4WD vehicle. Cabin Breazy: Situated at one of the highest points on the property, Cabin Breazy is our cozy, off-grid, dry A-frame cabin surrounded by mountain views. Farmhouse Holler: 2nd Campsite is located next to our old farmhouse on a lower section of the property. Its near the natural spring and is shaded. There are no convenient bathroom facilities at this location so it is recommended to bring your own. Reaching the porta-potty would require an extensive uphill hike or driving around to the other entrance. To reach this campsite, the driveway could be considered rough terrain so drive slowly. Lowered vehicles or those with little ground clearance are not recommended. Each campsite has a max occupancy of 2 people. If you need space for more campers, please reach out to us about how many are in your party. We can host groups with advanced notification. Overlanding vehicles are welcome. Attractions: If you are looking for birds-eye view of the area, visit the Mendota Fire Tower only 3.2 mile away. You can see it from the farm and see the farm from it. It's about a 15 minute hike from the road. You can choose the mildly challenging way up or take the old roadway for a smoother walk. Clinch River is only 20 minutes away. Cool off in the river or enjoy kayaking and tubing opportunities from Clinch River Adventures. Closest convenience store is about 15 minutes away. Closest Grocery store is about 20 minutes away. Friendly-leashed pets are welcome on the property. Remember to always keep your pet tethered as we have free roaming animals on the property. Never leave pets unattended on the property. Mission: The original idea for CR Adventure Outpost came many years ago. We grew up visiting "Grandparents" in Wise County and developed a deep love for the area, the outdoors, and all it had to offer. This was a great spot. There was no road noise - it is near a road but traffic is extremely light (we probably only saw about a dozen vehicles over the 24 hours - if that). There are some really nice views as well. Shout out to the hosts who helped get one of our vehicles out when it couldn't get up the slick grass - if you get stuck just contact the host! Host left water for us which was really nice, and they have a table and chairs as well so extra space to set up anything you need. There's a few different fire pits and plenty of space for a few vehicles. Woke up to three white tails in the tall grass just by our camp.

This was a beautiful little farm to camp for the night. It would also be perfect for someone to make it their base camp to get away from everything then go explore during the day. We spoke with the sweet couple who own the farm when we arrived. They are amazing 💗. We camped next to the barns which housed horses. They were quiet and friendly. It’s a perfect spot if you want privacy away from a campground. It’s considered a single sight so you have all the privacy. Keep in mind, you are on someone’s farm and pretty much in their back yard, and will hear roosters crowing in the morning. However, it is still a private space for you/your group. We still had a fire, stayed up late, and played music 😊

Amy's farm is in a beautifully setting with very friendly hosts and neighbors. Our children got a kick out of waving at every car that drove past. We did a little hiking up some steep gravel roads and got our feet wet in the clear running spring water. In the evening we found a dark spot along the road to star gaze and watched a pair of bats enjoying a feast of bugs. Our only struggle was with the deer ticks, which we developed a sharp eye for. We would definitely stay again should we find ourselves in the area.

I had a little problem finding his land, so glad I seen the tubing signs on the entrance to his land. I stayed 3 nights and it was awesome. I was the only camper there. He was very nice to let me join a group that has signed up to go tubing and that was very exciting and fun!! He was a good host and would recommend anyone to camp there and take advantage of tubing down the river!!!😎

Weekend Trip to Kennedy Historic Appalachian Farm

Our stay at Kennedy Farm was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like family by the sweetest hosts. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The farm itself is stunning with gorgeous rolling hills and natural beauty. We loved having coffee by the fire and stargazing at night! The animals were an absolute treat- cows, goats, chickens, and donkeys added so much charm and the kids had the best time loving on them! Don’t let the 45 minute drive to The Channels or other trails deter you. Staying here is so worth it! We will definitely be back to Kennedy Farm!
