Camp Ondessonk

Operating since 1959, Camp Ondessonk is a non-profit youth camp on 983 acres of beautiful wooded property adjacent to the Shawnee National Forest. Guests have access to several miles of paved road for walking and cycling, 15 miles of on-site hiking and biking trails, and access to a huge network of public Shawnee National Forest trails including the River-to-River Trail. Our property is home to the tallest free-falling waterfall in Illinois, Cedar Falls, as well as rock bottom creeks, canyons, prairies, forests, and hills. Detailed trail maps of our property and the surrounding area are available. Guests are welcome to stroll the grounds, observe our horses grazing in the pastures, enjoy views of our lakes and forests, or relax by the campfire. Stop by the Camp Store at the Trading Post to purchase Ondessonk apparel, souvenirs, or essential items. To schedule a guided hike, boating, archery, or horseback riding program, or test yourself on our high challenge course or climbing wall, contact Ondessonk staff for program availability and more information. The Camp Kitchen can prepare certain meals for you; contact us for meal availability and more information.

Open Pasture Paradise

Very High Elevation in the Open Pasture Area!  We own 200 acres of all types of terrain. There is a very large pasture for camping and a hunters' apartment for rent. Our property is surrounded by thousands of acres of unoccupied land.We have an apartment set up with 4 bunk bed sets for hunters, with a bathroom and kitchen. There is no stove, but double hot plates, toaster oven, microwave, crock pots, refrigerator, etc. It is not at all fancy, but is certainly usable for short-term lodging. It will accommodate 8 people easily and more on inflatable mattresses or cots.

Calliman Stables Campgrounds

We are just normal people who love where we live.  We ride horses right on the road, and just move to the side when a vehicle comes.  We do what we want, and are who we are.  Our values include a very deep faith and church on Sunday morning.  We were born and raised Catholic, and Catholic is what we’ll stay.  We don’t care what religion you are, we’re all living for the same God regardless of the church we attend, or don’t attend for that matter!  You’ll know exactly what type of people we are when you leave, and we hope you’ll be so glad you came.  We’ll feel blessed to have you!Learn more about this land:Too often we find ourselves so busy and overwhelmed trying to fulfill the obligations on today’s schedule as we search for a pen to jot down tomorrow’s commitments.  Take a break, we’ll offer you the experience your looking for.  Maybe it’s just the sound of no sound.  You wonder what it’s like to sip your coffee as you walk to the barn on a quiet morning to check on the horses?  Bring the golf cart or Ranger if your not big on walking.  It’s your time to spend, so spend it however you want.  Calliman is operated by Allison, a wife and mother to five girls.  Surrounding the exterior edges of the land are the homes of Brock and Jennifer and their three children, Allison’s mother and father, Billy and Susie the landowners of Calliman Stables, and Allison’s family of seven!  The barn, located in the near center of the farm is home away from home everyday.  Most times we’re at the barn to care for the horses, but sometimes we’re there to saddle up and ride the horses.  We have plenty of room, so bring yours too if you have them.  We will gladly show you around, but you may enjoy exploring the acreage and showing yourself around, and we completely respect that!  Your gonna love it here, but you’ll have to leave it so that you’ll appreciate it when you come back!
