Kate’s Hipcamp site is the best. Did our yearly trip w both kids and their friends. Despite the rain, we had fun. The goats, chickens, and dogs are fun to hang out with. This place is amazing! My best friend and I decided to have a girls weekend and camp out. The hosts were so nice and accommodating. The property was absolutely beautiful! We went towards the end of October and it was still stunning! Tons of animals that are so used to people and dogs that they ignored our dogs thinking they were big and tough. We are already planning on going back next weekend!

Overall we had a great time camping here. Kate was friendly and helpful, our campsite was a great spot, secluded with a great view of the stars at night. Our kids had a lot of fun interacting with the dogs and feeding the goats. The only issue we had was with one of the dogs on the site, they woke us up several times at night barking right outside our tent. They also tore into our trash bag that was hanging 3-4 feet off the ground. Make sure to dog-proof your campsite before turning in, and bring some ear plugs if you're a light sleeper.

Beautifully situated along the Flint Hills Trail, the Basecamp was easy and restful. Cold water shower and very clean porta potty. Perfect for a one night stop. RV site 1 has a streetlight adjacent so pick #2 if you’re looking for darker night. Fire pits are spacious and include a cooking grate. Pads relatively level and adjacent but not cramped. Good rural dog walking paths!

The campsites were clean, and land easy to navigate. We loved camping right by the lake, and being able to swim and paddleboard. We enjoyed petting the horses and goats as well! It was a short walk to the restroom from our spot. The train came by often but we also encountered rain while we were there so it was less distracting than the rain!

1 night at Basecamp Flint Hills

If I could give it stars, I’d give it a 10! Very simple, beautiful setting. Amy, the host was very responsive. I’m not sure August is the best time to visit. VERY hot and little shade. But we were in our RV, connected to power, so we could run our a/c, and once the sun went down, it was very pleasant outside. The shower is described as a cold water shower. It because of the weather, the water was hot for a couple of minutes, and even when it cooled down, it was quite nice, and what a setting! It would be fun to be there with people around, so we hope to come back during a more popular time to visit. Easy access to Emporia, and located right on the Flint Hills Trail. We highly recommend.
