The place we stayed at was great and we had a ton of fun!! Heidi is such a sweet, kind host, she was a ton of help with getting our stuff back to camp! There’s an option for free camp games and she provides water, eggs, and other goodies. Overall great place and a great host with cute doggies!

Heidi is a great host! We stayed for just one night so that we could be close to Mathieson State Park. Our campground was comfortable and well-appointed. We stopped by her farm to visit her horses, goats, chickens, and other pets.

Spectacular! Location: the campground itself was very well maintained, our group had 4 tents and we had plenty of room without feeling crowded but also still felt nestled in nature. At night you can see stars between the trees and even better, as it is summer, we saw fireflies twinkling in the trees! -it gets DARK, and it was very peaceful. Our host Heidi was amazing, she was very responsive, prepares the area to minimize mosquitoes, provides delicious eggs, and has a tractor to help carry things back and forth to the car. Everyone collectively fell in love with her dog Tiller and it is not far at all from starved rock. I only wished we booked a longer stay!
The trail to the bathroom is clear and having stayed in the cleared areas we had no issues with ticks. There is adequate shade but morning was still very bright where we set up our tents.

What a lovely time! Heidi was a kind and friendly host, who got us packed in and out in a rain storm. The property is well maintained, with well thought out spaces for tents, hammocks and chill areas. Thank you for the firewood delivery (at a reasonable price), and the quick communication via the app! We had a great time onsite, a quick 25 minute drive to Starved Rock for a hike, and loved meeting the horses, goats, chickens and our new best friend, Tiller the pupper. Thanks, Heidi! Looking forward to next time.

We loved our stay this past weekend! The campsite was beautiful and clean, included firewood, hand sanitizer, fire starters, chairs, trash/recycle bins, fire pit and a picnic table! We loved having Tiller (doggo and camp host) come around and check in on us 🐾 Heidi and Stan were so helpful with including detailed instructions to get there and what to expect! They also helped bring our gear to our site and back. They would respond so quickly to any messages and were super friendly!! Being around the gorgeous horses, doggos, cats, chickens and goats was an added bonus to the experience for us! The site is so close to starved rock and buffalo rock which was perfect for us as we hiked a lot! Thank you Heidi and Stan!! 🌿

Beautiful chunk of land! And Meredith was VERY helpful when I had to confront the possibility of hanging my hammock outside on a rainy night - she pointed me to a horse shelter where I could hang my hammock & stay dry, and I had a really lovely night.

Great spot! Private sites spread plenty far apart for privacy. As the other reviews mention, Heidi was great and very welcoming, and Tiller the dog was indeed a 100% good boy and visited our site daily just to hang out and get pets - my daughter loved him and all the other animals up at the farm entrance (horses, goats, roosters, the cat guarding the horse stable, etc. It rained like heck our entire first day, but heidi came out to help us tow in the gear and gave us fresh dry firewood to use once the rain let up. She also is an expert on the area and can provide guidance on activities, fishing, etc. Overall it's a nice secluded spot and we have a relaxing and peaceful time for my 5 year old's first camping trip.

My son and I had a wonderful time camping here. The host Heidi was very friendly and responsive. The camp grounds are on the backside of the property which functions as a horse farm where Heidi holds riding therapy. It was so much fun to see all the horses, and my son even got a riding lesson which he’d never done before. Heidi was so gracious in explaining how her farm works, and also sharing with us the background of all her animals. Many are rescues that she has given a loving and safe environment. We loved seeing the goat being followed around by a couple sheep everywhere, plus chickens where I got some fresh eggs for breakfast. A very friendly dog name Tiller will definitely show up at your campsite for some head scratches throughout your stay.
Though there’s no fishing on site, the Illinois river is five minutes away and Heidi shared recommended fishing spots.
I’ve never stayed at a place where you can’t drive up to your site, but they had a good system for transporting your gear, and it was super easy with no waiting.
There’s maybe 5-6 camping sites on the trails in the woods. They all are pretty private compared to other places I’ve camped. It was nice to have a picnic table, another table, and a couple Adirondack chairs waiting for us. They also had fire starters a couple other helpful things. They delivered firewood to the site in their small tractor very quickly for the same price you’d get elsewhere.
10/10 would recommend

I would highly recommend this campsite, it's only an hour from Chicago and has a Walmart and a few restaurants nearby. The sites are spaced fairly far apart that we only saw another camper once. Fire pit was nice and we were able to use a broke down tree for fuel but the Walmart does sell firewood.
