The end of the season this year will be September 30th. And then we will be closed for the winter until May first. Unless otherwise specified. Usually closed for the winter months. Sugar Grove Family Fun Center up the road. Goat Yoga and Wholly Bean close by. Local forest preserve has toilets or bring your own porti-john. Bring your horses. Set up a temp spot. We have the space. And there is riding at the forest preserve right around the corner. Camp with your HORSES! We have a swing set and small child play sets. A trampoline. A tire swing. Rancho Del Comienzo is located at the intersection of Somonauk Creek and the Fox River. 150+ years ago, it was a commonly used Native American encampment. Now it is the site of Rancho Del Comienzo Hay and Horses. We ask that if you find an arrowhead that you respect the land and leave it where it lays.
Somonauk Creek is a known spawning ground of musky and other Illinois river fish. There is access to both the Fox River and Somonauk Creek for kayaking, canoeing, fishing and other water-activities!
We have two unique camping sites that are level and allow campfires. We look forward to hosting you!

I loved my time here! Katie was very kind and helpful when showing me the site. I took a camper van and parked by the treeline. There was an in the woods hang out space that I think is good for a tent too!

I drove down a path, leading to the campsite. There are a lot of deep ruts along the way. Small, low profile vehicles might not make it! My SUV did. It is very secluded, in the woods, next to the Illinois River, only about 100 yards away. I had a great experience. And would do it again.

The site had such great vibes and we enjoyed camping under the stars very much. We arrived late in the dark and Kimberly was so kind to leave out some fire starters and delicious eggs. It was very easy to communicate with her and find our campsite in the dark. I would 100% come back here in a heartbeat if i were to drive cross country again. Thank you Kimberly!!!

you can't beat the opportunity to camp at an apple orchard!
this was our first hipcamp experience and it was good! brian was super helpful and accommodating when hipcamp made an error and i am super appreciative!
my biggest heartbreak for the night was that THE tree is no longer there. did i book this site soley for the tree? kinda. i had dreamy visions and plans to hang hammocks with my husband, so for sure pretty bummed that it no longer stands to hang hammocks in, but i did still mange to find two great trees to hang from, and with the views of an orchard! (maybe those pictures should be taken down so no one else is disappointed) i did roll a portion of it to the bigger firepit so i could still enjoy it as a table (it looked really cute actually!) and i did roll it back when we were done.
we really really appreciate an on site potty and ample, great burning firewood!
the street was fairly busy, more than we anticipated, but not awful at all.
and we really loved being the only people there! it's perfectly sized for one family!
we also took a walk down to say "hi" to the horses and to swing like kids on the tire swing (seems the teeter totter left with the famous tree)!
the site has GREAT tall trees for plenty of shade with a sweet wooden swing hanging between two of them!
the sunset and sunrise were both plenty visible and beautiful.

I had a wonderful experience camping here! The location is peaceful, clean, and beautifully maintained. The facilities were well taken care of, and everything was easy to access. What stood out the most was the kindness and hospitality of the owner—always welcoming, helpful, and making sure I felt comfortable during my stay. It truly felt like a home away from home in nature. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable camping trip.

Kimberly's place was fantastic for our purposes, and Kimberly was a delight. She helped out with our dog (via Rover) and also helped us with a few things before we got on the road. And she was a pleasure to talk to.
Again, the spot itself fit us perfectly. And Kimberly had prepared some things before we arrived, like kindling for the brick firepit as well as a bucket of water, which we used for dishes and such. And there were farm fresh eggs available (at a small station not far from our site) for us in the morning, which was absolutely fantastic.
I highly recommend stopping here if you're on the road, especially if you've got a pup with you. Our dog had a fun time checking out the goats and playing with Kimberly's dogs while we were out doing a family thing. But we never got to meet Kevin, the farm peacock, which was a bummer! Lol.

Great spot little spot tucked back in a wooded area with plenty of space for us to relax. There is also a large field to run around/stretch our legs. The host, Katie, was very accommodating and met us beforehand to show us exactly where to go. Only downside is the proximity to the train tracks, which woke us up a few times in the night. Otherwise, fantastic spot and would stay again!

The camping spot was charming and Katie was very friendly! Gave me a full tour upon check in and was very accommodating to my check in time. The spot has trains that pass through often (I didn’t mind) and you can hear children playing sports across the way occasionally but overall the spot is pretty secluded. my dog loved exploring the creek. would come again.
