Here are some answers to common questions.
We provide camping toilets with a privacy tent.
Check in starts at 4 PM and check out ends at 11 AM. Late check out is available for purchase as an extra for $10 per hour.
ELECTRIC: If you need to use electricity to inflate a mattress or something just for a few minutes, an outdoor outlet can be found on the "lower garage" building. Just look to the left of the west facing garage door.
WATER: If you need to use the garden hose to fill a 5-gallon bucket or smaller, you can use the garden hose attached to the back side of the house. Please be sure to turn the water off completely when you are done.
CAR BATTERY: If your car battery dies and you need a jump David will help you if he is available. Otherwise, please call a towing service, such as Whitey's Towing.
WOOD: We may have rough firewood available at no charge. We recommend campers bring their own hand saw or hatchet to cut it to the desired size. You may bring your own firewood.
PICNIC TABLE/PATIOS: Please do not place any cooking device on the picnic tables. You can use a large log for this. Feel free to roll one to a desired spot. You may move the picnic tables if you would like to, we provide a limited number of picnic tables. Campers are not guaranteed that one will be available. Campers may use the patios by the house, we have 2 patios with firepits.
INSECTS: If you find ground wasps or bees, just relocate your camp farther away from them. We do try to address these when we are made aware of them. We recommend bringing mosquito repellent.
HAMMOCKS: Hammocks are acceptable if you protect the trees from any damage.
EXTRAS (after you arrive): Please bring exact cash if you want to purchase extras after you arrive. Hip Camp does not have the capability to add extras after you have made your booking.
ARRIVAL TIME: Your host would appreciate a message and phone call with your arrival time so that he can greet you and get you settled upon arrival. Remember, we have an added fee for arrivals after 10 PM.

Welcome to our beautiful property! This is a very special place, located an hour from Chicago and only minutes from the west suburbs, you will be transported to another time! This has to be the best “swimming/ fishing hole” in Chicagoland and you can have it all to yourself.
The property features 20 acres of woods, prairie and an 8 acre lake!!! The lake is crystal clear because it’s so deep (reportedly 125 ft) and is sandy on the bottom. We created a massive beach area with many camping spots to choose from. The kids will love exploring the trails on foot and on bike. Everyone will love lounging under the umbrellas on the comfy chaise lounges and enjoying the views.
You won’t want to leave, but if you need to restock, there a gas station 1/4 mile away and full service grocery store and restaurant under a mile away. We even get pizza delivered! There’s a nice driveway of gravel that leads to a nice open field for RV campers. Tent campers can continue to the beach and set up in style.
The property was once an active quarry and was then basically abandoned for 40-50 years. Nature took over over, Trees matured, the stocked lake grew some massive fish. A few years ago we started camping out there and just loved it. We’ve worked hard to make it amazing and we want to share it with you.

We are a small "family farm" that grows sweet corn and pumpkins. We are two families that have become great friends and use this property for growing a small crop each year, friend and neighbor gatherings, and loads of fun and memories for our kids.
In the summer, we love to spend time hanging out at our tiki hut that we have lovingly nicknamed "The Smut Hut." Smut is a mushroom-type delicacy that sometimes grows on sweet corn, we have learned. Bonfires and grilling out are our favorite things to do. Our kids have built some great trails and jumps for you or your kids who might enjoy trail bicycle riding.
So, if you are looking for some time overlooking a creek or pond, fishing, hiking, sitting around a fire, and relaxing, we invite you to come and stay with us. Sometimes we may be there hanging out, picking corn or pumpkins, or grilling with friends, and we hope you might join us. Or you just might have the place to yourself to watch the birds and the beavers, and if you're lucky, you may spot the turtle that lives in the pond.
We have 2 RV sites with electric available, and several tent sites. Many have fire rings and picnic tables available. We also have grills and a portable toilet available for use during your stay. We do have firewood available for purchase, hand-chopped by our teenager, and during the in-season time, we will have sweet corn and pumpkins available for purchase.
We are located about a half mile from Route 30, and just a few miles from a dump station at Vacationland.

Simply amazing. We decided on this location specifically because of the horses, and everything exceeded our expectations. Near the barn we were greeted by friendly cats and a dog, and were able to pet the horses over the fence, but later on we had good weather and the horses were turned out at night. 25 horses trotting over the bridge next to your campsite, grazing at night silhouetted on the hillside, and randomly popping in to say Hi was one of the coolest things I've experienced camping. At morning, the first time I popped my head out of the tent there was a donkey looking back at me, and they must have been hungry because I was immediately surrounded by a dozen cute and huge faces. What a cool experience to have, and the people we interacted with were more than friendly and helpful. Thanks for the opportunity!

This was a beautiful site right on the creek, as advertised! There were a few great spots to pitch a tent and hang a hammock. Though the host's home is visible, it's far enough away to feel somewhat private. She left us a good-sized table firepit that cooked up food for two well and we had plenty of kindling available nearby. We brought our own firewood so I'm not sure if the host offers any. Plenty of room to park and there were lots of nice animal noises throughout the day & night for that wilderness feel. I'd recommend this for a low-key site that feels close to nature.

A fantastic stay with horses, water, birds, structure and lots of space to explores. A piece of little heaven. Love the beautiful stream going through the properties. We had a beautiful sunset. The herd of horses came by the bridge out to the field is so awesome! The freight train gone through the beautiful wooden bridge once at 9 pm was a nice highlight. It went slow and beautiful. We love train.

We had an amazing stay on Sam’s land. We camped in winter (end of Feb), and had the lot to ourselves. Sam was friendly and helpful to get the power hooked up. Our 5yo had a blast playing in the yard, we can only imagine how fun that must be in summer. He got to peek inside the hen house and even got to take some fresh eggs. Make sure to bring an adapter from 110V/15A to 30/50 depending on your RV - it gives you more freedom to put up your RV anywhere in the yard.

If you’re looking for a truly unique waterfront camping experience, this is it. This beautiful quarry-turned-campsite is an absolute hidden gem. The family has thoughtfully transformed the land into a peaceful, scenic escape that feels worlds away from the city. Waking up by the water, surrounded by quiet and natural beauty, was exactly the reset I needed. It’s rare to find a place that feels both secluded and welcoming at the same time — but this spot absolutely delivers.
The hosts were fantastic — responsive, kind, and genuinely accommodating. Since I camped in the winter (which made the experience even more serene), they graciously allowed me a late checkout because bookings are lighter this time of year. That flexibility made my stay even more relaxing and showed how much they care about their guests’ experience.
For future campers, just a couple helpful tips: the gate could use a bit of maintenance, as it was somewhat heavy to open and close — especially as a solo camper. And be sure to bring heavy-duty tent stakes designed for rocky ground. Standard stakes are tough to drive into the soil, which is completely understandable given that the property is a former quarry.
Overall, this was an incredible stay. Peaceful, picturesque, and thoughtfully hosted — I would absolutely return and highly recommend it to anyone who loves camping by the water and wants a special getaway.

Peaceful snd serene. Dave was an amazing host, he brought me fire starters and helped carried my stuff to the site. Next time I would definitely bring a utility sled to transport my gear. It was quiet and I had a good sleep. They have peacocks, turkeys and ducks on the site. They had setup a portable toilet near my site. Overall i will definitely be coming back when I want something close to home.
