As this is agricultural lands, there are many critters. Dogs, chickens, pheasants, peacock, mongoose, and many birds. Tge invasive coqui frog is annoying to some and calming to others.
The micro climate here swings from warm and dry to wet quickly. Best to always prepare for rain.
There is snorkeling, beaches, local food, Cafe, BBQ, poke, fish-n-chips, grocery, Sunday farmers market and hiking nearby.
It is peaceful here, but also an active farming community.
As an organic farm, we put alot of effort into soil building and as such, there are soft places that will be damaged by the weight of a vehicle. Staying on the driveway is best. We will guide you to where you need to go.
Our road is paved, but bumpy. Any vehicle will make it without damage if driven slowly. 1 to 4mph tops. *Be sure to avoid the camper rental companies that restrict certain roads.

Camper Vans or RVs are more than welcome! During the day, enjoy access to a private river where you can take your fishing pole and catch yourself some dinner. After a busy day, enjoy a nice hot bath in a private shower under the stars, along with a flushing toilet and sink. Upon request and additional charge, end your adventure with a cozy night next to the fire pit ($28.00 for fire pit). Mangrove Lounge is 3-5 minutes (driving) away from many beaches and eateries in Haleiwa town where you can also do all your shopping. Less than a mile away, you can find all the delicious food trucks including the famous Giovanni Shrimp Truck. You can find your nearest supermarket just 1.2 miles away called Malama Market, and Longs Drug Store right across the street from Malama Market. Mangrove Lounge provides clean bathroom, a shower with hot water, access to a private river for relaxing or fishing, about 800ft from the nearest bus stop, and secured privacy so you and your friends or family can relax, feel safe, and most importantly...have fun! 😊

One of the most beautiful places in Hawai`i. We are at the top of a hill in a secluded and secure Homestead farm overlooking Kane`ohe Bay and Mokapu (and the Marine Corps Base) as well as the Pali (cliffs). We are nestled, in a jungle, in the Ko`olau mountain range. We have ocean access from the property (by crossing the road). Nearly are places to get in the water (such as Ka`a`awa and Ku`aloa Beach Park). We are also close to civilization and Kualoa Ranch.
We generally see the stars and the sun and moon rise. We also see the colors of the Bay change with the tides, clouds, wind, light.
We are focused on education about Hawai`i, being kind to animals (and all life, including humans), and we are privileged to be able to share our aloha as well as farm bounty. We grow chili peppers, ulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), noni, vegetables, bananas, olena (turmeric), ginger, etc.
Not pictured is the common kitchen area.
We have access to Reiki, massage, and other types of services. We have kayaks, surfboards, general snorkel and beach gear, SUPs, and connections to local businesses for other opportunities (e.g., horseback riding, sailing, rowing, etc.).
There are surfing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, and hiking options nearby. We are also conveniently near a mall and many great places to eat. It is also lovely to hang out here at the farm and enjoy the peace, away from concrete and traffic congestion. There are places to explore and a steep climb one can hike to get to the edge of the property where there are many and even more spectacular views.
We are a real homestead and aspiring organic farm focused on Hawaiian Heritage plants and a Sanctuary for animals. We have many Native Hawaiian plants, superfoods, and culturally important plants. We also have Bucket and Scream (our goats), Venus, Zenith, and Sweetie (farm cats), Ipo (Australian Shepard farm dog), turkeys (Royal Palms), and a bunch of chickens.
It is possible to get around in the near area, and on and off the property, on The Bus. The Bus stop is down a hill about 5 minutes away.
We are always involved in community and local food, so let us know your interests. & let us know if you want to plant plants, weed bad grass, attend a cacao ceremony, or donate to a good cause.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a little over an hour drive and the Maunakea Visitors Center is an hour and 15 minutes. Other sites and adventures include Umauma Zip lining and Botanical World Adventures (5 miles away), Onomea Bay scenic drive and Hawaii Tropical Botanic Garden (8 miles away), the historic town of Honokaa (45 mins), and the beautiful cowboy town of Waimea (1 hour).
Hakalau Springs Campground sits on 11 acres with two springs bordering the property with a variety of fruit trees and farm animals to interact with.
We offer basic campsites with picnic tables, drinking water, a fire pit, a composting toilet, and a pop-up tent in case it rains. You will be camping on soft grass amongst giant Ironwood and eucalyptus trees while listening to the soft sounds of the creek below. Take a swim in the spring-fed waterfall swimming hole and relax by the fire pit at night.
We also offer our beautiful 2 room tent fully furnished with a queen-sized air mattress, cozy bedding, lantern, and camping lounge chairs. Cooler upon request, you provide the ice.
We’re blessed to be located on the rainy side of the island because of all the abundance and greenery the rain brings. That being said, please be prepared for the weather. It can rain hard at times so having a good rain jacket is a great idea. On the other hand, people say that a sunny day on the east side of the big island is the best place to be in all of Hawaii.

Wild and organic. That is the best way to describe our gardens. Our hanai mom started caring for this land over forty years ago. Her passion for flowers, fruits and organic, simple living can still be seen even in our attempts to gain some control. The land is in my sisters and my care now and we hope to honor her, keeping everything organic. Fighting back the invasive plants and continuing to plant more flowers, fruits and vegetables. We want to bring back some animals and create an environment that would bring her joy. We are so blessed to see René in all the beauty she gifted us with.
Our tropical rainforest, with forty years of love, beautiful organic gardens, tangerines, avocados, kukui, rhododendron, anthurium, hibiscus, and so much more to wander and enjoy. Rene would tell us how the railroad ended at the grove. We have found evidence. When the sky is clear at night you can see the milky way. This is my favorite place. I hope you enjoy.
There are things to be aware of, it's camping outdoors. There are bugs. Mosquitos, centipedes, fire ants. And there are pigs. Diatomaceous earth is great to put down before making camp. It's natural and detours bugs of all kinds. With the pigs, be louder and bigger than them and don't get between babies and parents.

Weekend Trip to The Tranquil Homestead
10/10 would recommend! Hope you’re feeling “foul” …. the natives are hungry. Be prepared for the welcoming party. The peacocks and ducks are so cute and it felt like we created a unique bond with the farm. It was hurricane Lala and she was creating quite a “whirlwind”. In the eye of the storm the peacock kept watch. I would love to upload a video bc it was surreal. Christopher and Esther were the nicest people. Gracious…kind…helpful… welcoming… they made sure we felt safe and checked in with us the entire stay. I felt like I was visiting friends or family. Truly blessed to have had this opportunity! The site is great, located directly on an orchard with macadamia nut trees. There are also other fruit trees on the property. The host is very friendly and gave clear instructions. The hot shower is nearby and has a very good flow. The facilities, shower and bathroom, are very clean and cozy. There is also an area for four to sit with a coffee table under a roof in case of rain. Water is potable on-site. Overall, great stay!

We stayed expecting a nice safe farm stay and left wondering why we hadn’t found it sooner. We found the location perfect for day trips along the north shore in our camper van. The sites and facilities were clean, the location is perfect, and the little details - fresh pick your own fruit and tiki torches to light the camp site at night - made the experience memorable.
Jenny and Kristian are friendly helpful hosts. They helped us park and provided a brief tour right when we arrived. During our stay, they were quick to respond to questions and refill the tiki torches when needed.
Pro Tip: If you have a longer camper van, use site 4 for easy parking.

We really enjoyed our time at Sun Farm! The accomodations are just the right mix of roughing it but with enough supplies and equipment provided so you don't have to bring your whole kitchen with you on the plane.

A special place to camp! Camping on land cared for by a Hawaiian family since the 1800s. The grass lawn was lush, soft, and thick—perfect for a tent. Host Michael let us sample fresh guava, mango, and star fruit right off the trees. Keep in mind that the amenities are very basic, with storage items around, but the natural setting make for a memorable trip.

Great pool with slide, orchard at the bottom of the property and view from the top were beautiful. The outdoor shower is inspired and was probably the highlight. Great communication throughout the stay.

spent a week with my gf here and it was amazing fresh papaya every morning 2 cute and friendly dogs comfy bed clean restrooms and showers hot water everything u can think of.coming back next year for 2 weeks :)

What an amazing place, my boyfriend and I had a great time. Bathroom and shower had warm water and it was porcelain so it was nice and clean. Only one other spot so it’s very private. Wall outlet. Beautiful private beach to walk along the river and my favorite, a lifted pallet to put your tent on so you’re not with the bugs. An in between glamping and tent camping. We had the most amazing time and I am very grateful for the host being so flexible and nice with my many many questions!! 💗

The farm was exactly what we were looking for. Great place to stay that keeps you VERY close to all N. Shore activities. Definitely a place to book if you’re looking for somewhere to camp where the action is. The ducks may very well be the cutest and friendliest we’ve ever encountered. 😁
