This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. We are surrounded by jungle, with a freshwater stream running through the entire property and unobstructed mountain views. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, bugs, geckos, free roaming chickens or other elements to be expected in nature, this might not be the place for you.
Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. Outsiders do not often get the opportunity to stay back here, but we welcome respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience who can appreciate this privilege.
While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants.
This is a working farm. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. One of the most beautiful places in Hawai`i. We are at the top of a hill in a secluded and secure Homestead farm overlooking Kane`ohe Bay and Mokapu (and the Marine Corps Base) as well as the Pali (cliffs). We are nestled, in a jungle, in the Ko`olau mountain range. We have ocean access from the property (by crossing the road). Nearly are places to get in the water (such as Ka`a`awa and Ku`aloa Beach Park). We are also close to civilization and Kualoa Ranch.
We generally see the stars and the sun and moon rise. We also see the colors of the Bay change with the tides, clouds, wind, light.
We are focused on education about Hawai`i, being kind to animals (and all life, including humans), and we are privileged to be able to share our aloha as well as farm bounty. We grow chili peppers, ulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), noni, vegetables, bananas, olena (turmeric), ginger, etc.
Not pictured is the common kitchen area.
We have access to Reiki, massage, and other types of services. We have kayaks, surfboards, general snorkel and beach gear, SUPs, and connections to local businesses for other opportunities (e.g., horseback riding, sailing, rowing, etc.).
There are surfing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, and hiking options nearby. We are also conveniently near a mall and many great places to eat. It is also lovely to hang out here at the farm and enjoy the peace, away from concrete and traffic congestion. There are places to explore and a steep climb one can hike to get to the edge of the property where there are many and even more spectacular views.
We are a real homestead and aspiring organic farm focused on Hawaiian Heritage plants and a Sanctuary for animals. We have many Native Hawaiian plants, superfoods, and culturally important plants. We also have Bucket and Scream (our goats), Venus, Zenith, and Sweetie (farm cats), Ipo (Australian Shepard farm dog), turkeys (Royal Palms), and a bunch of chickens.
It is possible to get around in the near area, and on and off the property, on The Bus. The Bus stop is down a hill about 5 minutes away.
We are always involved in community and local food, so let us know your interests. & let us know if you want to plant plants, weed bad grass, attend a cacao ceremony, or donate to a good cause.

Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. Outsiders do not often get the opportunity to stay back here, but we welcome respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience who can appreciate this privilege.
While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants.
This is a working farm. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. One of the most beautiful places in Hawai`i. We are at the top of a hill in a secluded and secure Homestead farm overlooking Kane`ohe Bay and Mokapu (and the Marine Corps Base) as well as the Pali (cliffs). We are nestled, in a jungle, in the Ko`olau mountain range. We have ocean access from the property (by crossing the road). Nearly are places to get in the water (such as Ka`a`awa and Ku`aloa Beach Park). We are also close to civilization and Kualoa Ranch.
We generally see the stars and the sun and moon rise. We also see the colors of the Bay change with the tides, clouds, wind, light.
We are focused on education about Hawai`i, being kind to animals (and all life, including humans), and we are privileged to be able to share our aloha as well as farm bounty. We grow chili peppers, ulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), noni, vegetables, bananas, olena (turmeric), ginger, etc.
Not pictured is the common kitchen area.
We have access to Reiki, massage, and other types of services. We have kayaks, surfboards, general snorkel and beach gear, SUPs, and connections to local businesses for other opportunities (e.g., horseback riding, sailing, rowing, etc.).
There are surfing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, and hiking options nearby. We are also conveniently near a mall and many great places to eat. It is also lovely to hang out here at the farm and enjoy the peace, away from concrete and traffic congestion. There are places to explore and a steep climb one can hike to get to the edge of the property where there are many and even more spectacular views.
We are a real homestead and aspiring organic farm focused on Hawaiian Heritage plants and a Sanctuary for animals. We have many Native Hawaiian plants, superfoods, and culturally important plants. We also have Bucket and Scream (our goats), Venus, Zenith, and Sweetie (farm cats), Ipo (Australian Shepard farm dog), turkeys (Royal Palms), and a bunch of chickens.
It is possible to get around in the near area, and on and off the property, on The Bus. The Bus stop is down a hill about 5 minutes away.
We are always involved in community and local food, so let us know your interests. & let us know if you want to plant plants, weed bad grass, attend a cacao ceremony, or donate to a good cause.

We usually have perfect weather- sunshine, blue skies, a nice breeze, with temperatures in the high 70's.
The campsite is part of the Waipi'o Lodge, which has three bedrooms and a common space living room. Our camping guests are welcome to use the outside kitchen, covered lanai, and Lodge bathroom. We also have high speed Wi-Fi.
Our guests tend to be excellent company, usually visiting from Europe, the US Mainland, Australia and beyond. Many use our place as a launching point for hiking in Waipi'o Valley or backpacking trips into Waimanu Valley.

Gingerhill Farm Retreat was the most amazing and perfect authentic, raw and true experience! Sylvia met me at my car and guided me up the grassy path past the goats and chickens to show me the delightful facilities, the outdoor shower so delicious, the community kitchen with the am8’g view of the Pacific, and the simple sleep accommodation in the yurt! I fely at all times I was there as if I was sunk into the lush paradise that surrounded me. I will return if ever I am able and stay as long as I possibly can!

Clean cabin, helpful and responsive hosts, very quiet atmosphere. No street noise at all, just birds and rain.
There are 2 dogs that can be noisy at times, and can steal your shoes if you leave them outside. Plenty of space inside to store them.
Shower wasn’t working when we arrived but was fixed by the second day.

It was a very peaceful stay, even though the property was fairly full it was quiet and minimal traffic. I really appreciated the detailed directions Matthew provided in the booking confirmation - follow them and it’s very clear. It took a few minutes to locate someone to check me in (since its not self check in, but there is no desk just a message board) but phone reception was better than many places in the island and they also provided a WiFi password on the back porch. I was a little disappointed that the hammocks are only hammock stands (i had a cabana in the past where the hammocks were able to be tied to the support posts diagonally across the room, but here the beam did not seem sturdy enough to bear weight). However, apart from that, it was a very solid, well-built, and cozy glamping style place. Perfect for its proximity to Akaka falls (go very early in the morning when they first open, that was very tranquil, forty five minutes later as I was leaving the falls were overrun.)

Weekend Trip to Hamakua Guesthouse
The cabana was nice. Sleeping in a hammock is not for everyone but if you can do it, this is a great place to stay. The common ameneties were great and the staff on the property were exceptional. The waterfall was also very nice. Would definitely go back in the future.

A perfect place if you’re looking for a peaceful place to decompress! I stayed in the Bamboo Canopy and would definitely go back. Bed was comfy. Loved the coqui frogs croaking at night. I was surrounded by lush vegetation with a banana plant right outside my door. Bathroom is a compostable toilet which was super clean and hot shower was glorious! Kitchenware could use an upgrade, but the kitchen itself was kept very clean by fellow campers. Sunset view is the cherry on top!

We really enjoyed staying on Lex and David’s farm. We first stayed in the Banana Patch tent and then the Orchid Wall tent—both were very comfortable and accommodating, with showers, clean linens, and a safe place to stay. I couldn’t imagine that we’d get a better night sleep or a cleaner place at a resort in town. The property itself is incredibly well maintained and beautifully manicured. My husband is a landscaper and especially appreciated the amount of effort that clearly goes into maintaining such a beautiful piece of land. The location is also great—close to the city without actually being in it. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Waimanalo Hawaiian Market, which we absolutely loved.

Weekend Trip to Waimanalo Farmstay
A great peaceful get-away in the country. The site has a nice outlook, you can get in touch with nature and relax The bed was comfortable, and wifi connection fine. You will hear a lot of animals, we enjoyed that, no need for an alarm clock with the roosters etc around. Bring own coffee making set up or instant. Very easy to get to and from beach, market, cafe-restaurants etc.
