Hawaiian Rainforest Glamping

Hawaiian Rainforest Glamping is located in Fern Forest, a rural neighborhood, on three verdant acres of ōhiʻa lehua trees, tree ferns, banana plants, and fruit trees at 2100 feet. The yurt has its own bathroom with a flushing toilet and vanity sink. There is a large communal kitchen (a 16' x 16' kitchen cabin) that you can use free of charge, and an outdoor shower with hot water. In the summer, the greenhouse in the fenced paddock is full of vegetables. Free-ranging ducks and chickens supply eggs. There is an outdoor lounge area complete with a six-person picnic table, four hammocks, a fire pit, and torches. Please note that the owner lives on the premises in their own cabin, 20 feet away from the yurt. The homestead is run by 6,000 watt solar-power and a rain-catchment system with a 4,500 gallon water tank. This is a peaceful place to relax and recuperate from the din of city life. There are no street lights, just the stars and moon after sunset. On a clear night, the sky is full of stars. It rains often in this area and the sound is soothing to fall asleep to. Check out our other two sites on this listing—a camping cabin (Rainforest Glamping Cabin) and a tent area (Rainforest Tent) for tent campers. Several places of interest are within a 1.5 hour drive. Volcano National Park is only 15 minutes away by car; Punaluʻu black sand beach is 30 minutes; Ka Lae (South Point) is about 1.5 hours; and Hoʻokena Bay is about two hours. The Tranquil Homestead

Our "Off Grid" campsite is nestled in the midst of a mini-Rainbow Eucalyptus Rainforest, with native Ohia trees sparsely located throughout our property. Hapu'u Ferns are also within our mini-Rainbow Eucalyptus Rainforest. Enjoy the stunning 90 - 100 degree ocean views of Hawaii Island's Western Coastline, as well as the new Volcanic Vent (Known as Fissure 8) created by the 2018 Eruption of the Kileaua Volcano. The Hawaii Volcano National Park (HVNP) is a 14 mile or 20 minute drive from our campsite. HVNP has a visitor's center to get information about the park, hiking trails throughout its boundaries, steam vents and the awe-inspiring caldera, which is the location of the volcano's lava pool. At night, the glow from the lava in the caldera can be seen at the park. Our campsite is also an 18 mile or 29 minute drive from the Hilo International Airport and the town of Hilo, Hawaii.

THE OKINA AT PARADISE UNPLUGGED

THE "OKINA", at Paradise Unplugged, is a clean and private cabin that allows you to experience THE REAL HAWAII. This will give you an opportunity to stay within Hawaii's Largest Collection of Rainforest Tikis. Upon your arrival, you will experience our amazing Tiki collection along with our tropical plant nursery which includes over 300 rare Hapuu Ferns. You will see the many ways we live off grid in the Hawaiian jungle. ALOHA! Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our 7 life sized tiki statues that represent the game of chess. These tiki statues sit along a fence that was created using 100% recycled pallets. Once you enter the outdoor foyer, you will once again be greeted by 4 more life sized tiki statues. Upon entering the property, you will walk through our natural lava rock path called "The Horse Shoe". To the right you will see our rare collection of Hapuu Ferns along with other tropical plants from our nursery. To the left will be another 4 tiki statues from our collection ranging in sizes from 6 to 20 feet. All of our tiki statues are original pieces of artwork that are 100% hand carved. Along "The Horse Shoe" path you will also see several lava rock sculptures along with a "Rasta" sculpture that is insitu and still in the process of being created. After about a 100 foot walk, you will arrive at "The Okina" guesthouse. The Okina is a unique structure built from 100% recycled pallets! The hallways and sleeping area is about 100 sqft and features several pieces of original mixed media artwork and a futon style bed. We offer open spaced hallways along with a private lanai for you relax in and enjoy the tropical scenery. The hallway with black pillars and stringed bamboo will lead you to a unique indoor/outdoor jungle bathroom that is lined with totem poles that are 100% hand carved. There is an off grid igloo water cooler containing unheated non potable water. The composting toilet is designed to be used as a future fertilizer producer for our tropical gardens. "The Okina" is a prime example of off-grid jungle living. Electricity is provided by mini "solar bricks" that will charge cell phones or tablets. Lights are battery operated. Our non-potable lava rock filtered water is naturally caught and is provided daily from our "Water House". We strive to keep The Okina as clean as possible, so we do not offer a kitchen and we do not allow cooking. Please remember the paths are natural uneven lava rock so guests must be able to walk on an even lava rock path. Guests have free range to enjoy the outdoor tiki collection and tropical garden full of Hapuu Ferns in "the Horse Shoe". Please take as many photos as you like, but remember the tiki statues are made from heavy Ohia wood. So we kindly ask our guests to look but please do not touch the original tiki statues. Kailua-Kona Coast

=The Big Island’s Gold Coast stretches along the west shore, fringed with sandy beaches and colorful coral reefs. Seaside campers will find plenty of ways to get on the water, whether swimming and snorkeling at Kahalu'u Beach Park, paddling around Kealakekua Bay in a kayak, or setting sail on a whale or dolphin-watching cruise. Back on land, take a tour of a Kona coffee plantation and pay a visit to the Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park.

Kohala
