My cousin loved to fish and purchased 100 acres of land here 50 years ago. I wound up with this part of the property which is now surrounded by Big Hammock wildlife management area. For the past 47 years I’ve gone here to enjoy the river. The Ohoopee river splits here on the opposite bank and forms a 100 acre island before flowing into the nearby Altamaha river. Usually the river flow slows and kayaking around the island is pretty easy. There is a lot of wildlife to see here with white tail deer, turkey, waterfowl, beavers, otters, feral hogs and predators. The island is a favorite roost for every species of birds. During dry periods, the Ohoopee river water gets very clear with visibility greater than 6’ at times.

There was a lot of room and privacy for each site. We walked around and to see the river. I noticed one campground with canoes, so some must be enjoying the river.
Internet connection is sketchy, but we were able to stream using my phone as a hotspot.
The host was friendly and helpful.

This is a great little campground, if you want to get away from it all! I kept waiting for the weather to cooperate (was a bit chilly!) to go out in my kayak on the nearby river, but the one day it might’ve been OK I already had plans to be nearby on Jekyll Island. Ron and the campground host Kathy were both very welcoming and helpful.

We showed up at Deep Bend Landing for just a nights stay while passing through. Passing through sounds interesting in this area because this campground is waaaaay back in the country, but my wife and I are photographers—having a hobby side with abandonment, etc. There’s plenty of this genre in the deep country of Georgia.
Even though I didn’t get the notifications, Ron worked hard to contact us so we would not be lost when we got there. Meeting with a smile and handshake, he showed us to our location and offered any answers to questions we had.
A little about the campground. This is a no frills location. While that does not appeal to some, it’s an absolutely dreamboat to people like my wife and I. The area was so peaceful and the campground was extremely quiet and peaceful—despite having multiple spots filled. The sites were spacious with lots of shade. This is the PERFECT campground for people who just want time in nature—camping. While we were just passing through this time, we’ve discussed returning on another date to possibly stay for a few days and comb the area for photography treasures.

Beautiful property, and wonderful hosts. It was well worth the detour off of I95, to stay at Deep Bend. We are still. Sorry of new to the RV life, but this has been my favorite HipCamp so far, and I would definitely recommend it. I'm pretty sure we'll stay there again at some point in the future.

Nice big private site with full hookups! Kathy met us at the entrance and showed us right where to go!! We stayed 3 nights! Met some great folks there that spend several months at a time! Can’t wait to book our next trip back!!
