Only 2 miles (5min drive) from downtown Sarasota. This neighborhood has old-Florida charm: lots of lush tropical greenery, on Whitaker’s Bayou. It’s the best of both worlds: peaceful nature on the creek, and easy access to all the best restaurants, beaches, and charming Main St atmosphere.
Biking to Main St takes 8-10minutes if you have bicycles!
Ten minute drive from St-Armands Circle and Lido Beach; 20-25 minute drive from Siesta Key Beach.
The Bayou goes all the way out to the Gulf, in about a 30+ minute paddle. The Bayou is tidal, and paddling at mid to high tide is recommended as some spots get shallow at low tide.
We see large schools of mullet here, occasionally turtles, hawks, and herons.
We have a 36” campfire pit you are welcome to use that sits near the creek. We are still working on getting seating for the campfire pit, but if you have camping chairs, it’s perfect!
We have an amazing location to share AND we also have neighbors to the left, and across the creek. We value and respect them. We wish to share our space with quiet and mindful campers.
Back your RV or camper into the property. Depending on the size of your van/rig, you could park to the right or left of the oak that centers the driveway area.
We can provide 15amp and 30amp electricity/plug in - plz bring your own adapter if you require one. An extension cord is also needed to reach the plug. We can fill your water tank (city water), but can’t leave you connected to the water. We *do not* have bathroom/shower facilities, which is why we are only accepting RVs/campers who have their own facilities on board.
The property is 0.5 acre. As you will be parking in part of the large driveway area, or under one of the oaks near the fence (depending on the size of your rig). We can be available to help/welcome you, and offer local guidance if you like.
We will send you a code for the gate the morning of your check in.
**A sweet but fearful rescue dog lives here and at this time we are not allowing any other animals to camp or stay on the property.** NO DOGS WHATSOEVER. You will be made to leave if you violate this condition. We work so hard to help him progress - thank you for respecting our needs, at our home.
***Our acceptance rate is lower because people with dogs, 5 people in their party, or no onboard facility of their own submit booking requests, which we must decline.

Our unique little hideaway 2 miles from the beach, we have 2 camp sites #1 has full hook ups, water, sewer, electric, Wi-Fi, and can be 22ft max., small motorhomes or vans prefered for this spot, its very tight. Camp#2 has electric and water only and RV can be up to 28 feet max. We have a large saltwater pool to relax (not heated), read and sunbathe. A lot of privacy on our 1 acre lot, we keep it quiet, no kids staying or visiting.
Set back from the road in a very nice and safe neighborhood. Jeff and I live on the property that is also shared with other vacationers. We have 3 rooms as short term rentals, each have a separate entrance and bath. All guests share outdoor common areas, pool, fire pits grill area and gas grill.

Our RV Campsites are located in a grassy field next to dense woods. Electric and water hookups are included in the RV/Camper sites, but not the Tent Site. All sites have a picnic table. Cell phone service is not a problem, as we are not that remote (although it sort of feels like we are when you are here) - we are 5 min from downtown New Port Richey, 2 minutes from groceries, gas, restaurants.
This beautiful slice of Old Florida is named for the Pithlachascotee River that bends along the back side of the property. Pithlo is the Creek word meaning canoe, and chaskita means to dig or chop
out, together signifying "place where canoes are chopped or dug out". Seminoles of this area used canoes dug out from the great cypress trees found along Florida rivers.
From the 1980s until 2014, this property was owned by the Cotee River Lions Club. They held a popular monthly pancake breakfast fundraiser in the large pavilion along the river. We purchased this 4.9 acres of land in late 2019. It is now where we live and have a woodworking shop. It has been a magical place for us, with no shortage of wildlife, rich jungle forest, a lazy winding narrow river, and even the occasion river otter sighting.
We are grateful to all the humans who have occupied this place over the centuries before us for keeping it as nature intended it. It is our intention to do our part to conserve and protect
its natural beauty
as long as possible. We hope you find it to be as restful and rejuvenating as we do.

Peak season is January and February when this area is extremely competitive to find camping. I don't consider my hosting service a business, but rather a cost shared meeting place. The city/county won't allow monthly; therefore is 30 days max, plus this is intended to be a meeting spot to assist travelers and meet new people, not for long term housing.
Orderly and clean property: You and your RV / vehicle must be fairly presentable. No smoking on property. Your RV / vehicle must be in good condition and not in disarray; old vehicles OK if no visible duck tape, etc.

Have lived in a campervan six years full time from 2016 to 2021; traveled most of the U.S. to include Alaska but not Hawaii. Have visited popular Canadian areas. Have a 2018 Ford Transit customized campervan. Born in Ohio, grew up in Texas / Arkansas. Bought this Florida home in early 2021 that is energy efficient and withstands strong storms well, but not storm proof. Worked diligently for three years to upgrade and improve the property.

Our love of the trees and the water came to a beautiful union here. We are surrounded by woods but can still hear the beach waves crashing at night from our backyard. The beach is a quarter of a mile away as the bird flies.
Visitors of all shapes and sizes welcome us day and night including gopher tortoises, alligators, painted buntings, pleated wood peckers, red cardinals, endangered scrub jays, gray catbirds, black racer snakes, coachwhip snakes, legless lizards, iguanas, coyotes, bobcats, and armadillos to name a few.
We can escape the city life without leaving the city. A quick hike through our backyard and we are in the 80 acre Shamrock Park that includes the
Intracoastal Waterway, and Legacy Trail. The local beaches are a quick drive away, where you can spend the day hunting for

Camping around Palmetto places campers close to the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the mangrove forests that dip over lakes and estuaries on the Cocohatchee River. Many state parks dot the area, like Terra Ceia Preserve State Park, Lake Manatee State Park, and Delnor-Wiggins Pass, where campers can hike, fish, snorkel, paddle, and spot local wildlife. Hot and humid summers are perfect for swimming and boating, while cooler spring and winter seasons make a comfortable climate for hiking and mountain biking. No matter when you arrive, nearby campsites feature modern amenities like wifi and hot showers.

Terra Ceia Preserve State Park
Just 12 minutes north of Palmetto, sandwiched between Terra Ceia Bay and Tampa Bay, Terra Ceia Preserve State Park is a sanctuary for wildlife. Campers who love to birdwatch wil find blue herons, white ibis, bald eagles, and spoonbills. The park offers nine miles of hiking trails and year-round fishing (with a license) in Terra Ceia Bay. Magical and mysterious mangrove forests hang over creeks and streams, perfect for paddling through natural tunnels created by their drooping branches and rising roots. Bishop Harbor Road and Stotz Road feature boat, canoe, and kayak launches. There’s no camping within the park, but private campsites nearby have tent and RV campsites with hookups and potable water.
Lake Manatee State Park
Though there are no manatees in Lake Manatee, there’s still plenty of camping fun to be had at Lake Manatee State Park. Stay at tent and RV (up to 65 feet) campsites right in the park within walking distance to the beach where pets are welcome to join for sunbathing, swimming, and fishing from land. Campsites with water and electric hookups, a dump station, firepits, and picnic tables can be reserved online up to 11 months in advance. Bike along 2.5 miles of paved biking road, or take it off-road for a mountain biking challenge with bikes available to rent in the park. (Cyclists under 16 need to wear helmets.)
Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park
Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park’s claim to fame is a wealth of boating opportunities through Cocohatchee River estuaries leading directly to the Gulf. Explore Turkey Bay by kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, or search for shells on the ADA-accessible beaches with reservable wheelchairs. Or scuba dive and snorkel along Delnor-Wiggins Pass’ hard-bottom reef. Nearby campsites range from RV campsites with 50-amp hookups and wifi to primitive campsites.
When to go
October to March is generally considered camping season in Florida, when dense, muggy air cools in the evening for a more comfortable climate. Summers in Palmetto have an average daily temp above 86°F with hot and mostly cloudy skies. Short winters (from December to February) are cool and windy, rarely rising above 74°F. Florida camping is available year-round, and the ideal time depends on your preferences.
