FOB Pelican is a small peninsula surrounded by Little Pelican Bayou. We have an airstream camper, sleeps 3, an M109a3 army truck, sleeps 2 with an adjacent shower and restroom. FOB Pelican has an air conditioned trolley car converted into a bar that overlooks the bayou and a larger outdoor bar that overlooks the bayou. We also have a small beach with canoes and kayaks. There’s feeders that attract numerous turtles and fish to watch at feeding times. The bayou leads out to the Blackwater River accessing downtown Milton river walk or go south into the bay and Pensacola. We have an RV electrical and water hookup as well.

My family and I had the best time!! The trailer we rented was super clean, the staff was so friendly. We went Easter weekend and they had an Easter egg hunt and crafts/cookies for all the kids. So sweet! Can’t wait to plan our next trip there!

Cool area and friendly staff! The Cold water cabin was cute, a great price, with everything we needed for one night in Navarre. Sits in the middle of a lot of good food options as well. Only a 7 minute drive from multiple public beaches. Would definitely recommend checking this spot out!

Navarre beach camping resort was beautiful. Less than 10 minutes drive to the beach. The bay is beautiful. Everybody was super nice. They even do kayak rentals. Heated pool and hot tub. Will definitely be returning.

2 nights at Navarre Beach Camping Resort

We had a short stay before heading to New Orleans. We stayed in a one bedroom, with a small warm shower bathroom and kitchen. We had a TV as well with picnic table. It was a very nice stay, people were friendly. The beach access and doc where lovely and the water was so clear and beautiful. We took advantage of the hot tub as we visited in February and the Temps were in the 40-50 during the day. We had everything we needed for cooking in the cabin and utensils. They provided us with space heaters due to the lower Temps which was so nice and made it comfortable to relax in. I think the only thing that I kept thinking was that it would have maybe been nice to have had a fire ring that time of year to have sat by. However, absolutely was not a big issue. We did observe that some site had fore rings and some did not so it may have been something we just needed to request. It was such a low key and beautiful place with great restaurants everywhere. We will absolutely return during nicer weather. We had a lovely time.

We had an amazing stay at Navarre Beach Camping resort. We stopped there for 2 nights on the way to visit my grandma for Christmas and it was better than we expected! We participated in the Christmas gift exchange, played games with other campers, and went to check out some of the beaches that were recommended to us by some of the staff! We will definitely return!!!

Where to go

Florida Caverns State Park

About 100 miles northeast of Fort Walton Beach, rainwater eroded bedrock for eons, creating the limestone cave system of Florida Caverns State Park. Open year-round (but closing each day at sunset), the park offers guided cave tours among sinkholes, stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstones—just show up early, since tour tickets are first-come, first-served and sell out fast. Hipcampers can also enjoy bicycling, hiking, and boating on Chipola River. Stay nearby at pet-friendly tent and RV campsites with 50-amp hookups.

Little River State Forest, AL

Northwest of Fort Walton Beach, just across the border to Alabama, sits Little River State Forest. Hipcampers will find 2,100 acres of longleaf pine and a man-made dam and spillway that created Little River Lake—perfect for swimming, fishing, and boating (rentals available in the park). Little River State Forest has RV and tent campsites with electric and water hookups and primitive, backcountry camping anywhere in the park. Ride a horse through gorgeous pine forests, slide down the spillway, or look for quail and bobcats during the day, then retire to a furnished cabin at night.

Deer Lake State Park

Deer Lake is a rare landscape formation of coastal dune lakes. Summers at Fort Walton Beach last from May to the end of September, with the temperature averaging 85°F. Expect cloudy skies, increased rainfall, and high humidity. During spring and fall, temperatures usually stay around 65°F and drop no lower than 45°F. Many campers may prefer to camp from September to October or April to May to avoid the humidity, but lots of campsites and resorts are open year-round.
