History of JW Durango Riverside Resort It all started in 1965… When this campground hosted its first guests the goal back then was simply to offer folks from around the Four Corners a place to relax and lounge along the Animas River. Today, the property boasts 73 quality RV sites, 24 cabins and 6 tent sites. We also have a heated pool, playground, convenience store, retail shop, game room, café with a large deck for dining, laundry room, paved roadways, two bath houses, and an observation deck overlooking the Animas. The property sits just south of Bakers Bridge, a local landmark made famous as the set of the climactic finale in the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” – where Paul Newman and Robert Redford sat along the rocky cliffs that line the river before they famously took the plunge. Best campground we've had the opportunity to stay at .the staff is very very nice and accommodating. Got a cute gift shop with some nice stuff.kids got to play with other kids place is very laid back they let me have a campfire and let me set up my hammock in the campground. Made us Burgers first night we were there. My girls loved this place and its super close to the lake. Will totally be back here some day.

Weekend Trip to Junction West Durango

Perfect for the in-between camper that wants the rustic vibe without having to think about setting things up themselves. Booked their small cabin to myself and it was perfect for an overnight stop but I'd upgrade to a more comfortable cabin for an extended stay. Can fit 4 but it's a little cramped especially with gear. 2 pax with gear would be ideal. Beds come with mattresses but no bedding, definitely on the firm side so if you can bring some additional bedding to soften it up with a sleeping pad/sleeping bad, would be great. There's a fan and a heater to keep you comfortable. Bathrooms were very clean but the highlight was definitely being able to wake up and hear the sounds of the Durango Silverton steam train echoing faintly through the valley and walk down and have a cup of coffee on the riverbank. A little on the pricey side, for a cabin, but they do have all the amenities of civilization on site.

Had such a great time! We stayed in the one-room glamping cabin with beautiful views of the river right outside our front door. The bathhouses were very clean, and the showers had excellent water pressure and got nice and hot. The cabin itself was a big upgrade compared to tent camping. The bed was super comfortable (the pillows could have been better, so I recommend bringing your own). The fridge and microwave were a nice touch, and we appreciated that linens, towels, and trash pick-up were all provided. The activities each night were fun and cute, and the pool was clean and heated. Overall, the whole place was quiet, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and we are already looking forward to coming back!

I loved the amenities of the campground and glamping cabin. We booked this as a break from tent camping during a trip to the Colorado national parks and it had everything we needed. The proximity of the cabin to the river made the site feel private and peaceful. The cabin was clean and the bed was comfortable. There is no air conditioning in the cabin so it could get hot during the day but stayed cool at night. I would recommend to anyone and stay again!

Staying at JW was great. The rustic cabin was perfect for 2 snuggly adults and 2 teens. We were just yards from the observation deck over the river but there isn’t river access in the camp. The kids loved the pool and the game room. The site was clean and well cared for. The showers were hot as well as the water for washing dishes. We will be back!
