You may have a campfire and we have free wood! We also have delicious duck eggs! A beautiful 40 acre ranch on Hastings Mesa with views of Alder Canyon and Hayden’s Peak. You can hear Alder Creek flowing through the canyon from the comfort of your campsite. Many nearby options for bicycling, hiking, kayaking and skiing in the area. Once you pull out the driveway you are a few minutes from Last Dollar Ranch Road (hike, bike, or 4x4) and about a 25 minute drive to Telluride, 30 minutes to Ridgway, and 30 minutes to Norwood. Just outside of Ridgway is Orvis Hot Springs, and more hot springs can be found in Ouray. The property offers access to Alder Creek and our beaver ponds down in the canyon. The fields are blanketed with Iris and clematis flowers in May and June and other wild flowers throughout the summer including pentstemon, larkspur, and wild roses. There are patches of scrub oak and fields with cinquefoil bushes in the camping areas, and as you go down in the canyon there’s aspen groves, blue spruce, and ponderosa pines. As mentioned before, we have delicious farm fresh duck eggs from our happy free-ranging ducks!

The nearby La Sal mountains rise to over 12,000 in elevation and is a great place to get out of the heat and enjoy lakes surrounded by beautiful pine and aspen forests. As the name suggests, Where The Wild Things Camp truly is wild and not for everyone. We are off grid, meaning there is NO electricity, no drinking water, and only "spotty" cell phone service is best just anywhere before bathrooms. Make sure to check the weather forecast before coming out and be prepared for anything as the weather here in the desert can be unpredictable and ALWAYS stake down your tents! Weekend Trip to High Sage Hogans

We had such a great stay! The tipi was a really cool and unique camping experience, close enough to Moab to get to everything easily, but far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle of town. It was peaceful, quiet, and exactly what we were looking for. Our favorite part of the trip was definitely Ringo, the sweet dog on the property. He “showed us around” and played with our dog the entire stay. Watching them run and explore together was honestly a highlight. Danny was incredibly kind and hospitable. He checked in on us, made sure we were comfortable, and you can tell he genuinely cares about his guests having a good experience. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Camping at Where The Wild Things Camp was a main highlight of our 10 day camping road trip through CA, Utah, New Mexico and CO. The campsite is set in the most incredibly gorgeous landscape, its pure magic. Each site has a beautifully crafted campfire location and the porter potty was spotless. A short walk away is a really incredible rock formation that you can climb into. It’s like a giant amphitheater with a cave at the top. We look forward to coming back on day :)

5 nights at Dolores River Rim Camp

We stayed at Old Corrals in our 47’ fifth wheel with two dogs and loved every minute. The site sits on huge open cattle lands that back up to almost two million acres of national forest — pure space and silence. Trails go on forever, from dirt roads to faint animal paths. During the fall rut we heard elk calls echoing across the hills, and the cattle wandered by like friendly neighbors. Hiking from camp brought sweeping views of the desert below, a winding river, and distant mountains. There are ancient Pueblo ruins nearby and endless public lands to explore. Joe was a great host — friendly, helpful, and clearly proud of his land. Even though he was out working fences, we rarely saw another soul. Note for big rigs: the last few miles are on unpaved road. It’s smoother than expected, but if rain is coming, plan to head out early — it turns impassable when wet. We’ll definitely be back.

The location was about a 30 minute drive to Ouray, CO and Black Canyon Gunnison. The location was also 8 minutes to downtown Montrose which had every store you would want. The scenery was beautiful and the host was very communicative. But, these sites are not meant for 20' campers. Very tight lots of half buried pointy rocks and if the weather isn't perfect the road in and out is sketchy at best. It would be fine for tear drop, pop up or even tent camping however.

1 night at Where The Wild Things Camp

This was a great place to camp. We were the only ones there so it was nice and quiet. My 7 year old loved to explore all the camps site with the unique decor. Definitely would camp there again. I wouldn’t recommend getting there after dark. It was just a bit tricky in the day light.

2 nights at Coworking Space with Mountain Views

Stayed for 2 nights in this hipcamp and wished we could have stayed longer! Host was great and our site was perfect. They have a great location near Montrose and Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We just drove cross country and the bathroom/shower were better than any other campsite we have stayed at so far. Site we had was very level and we loved being right next to their pond. Would definitely consider staying again if we come back to the area!

Great, well organized space for camping. The accommodations were so clean as were the grounds. Just far enough out of town to see the night sky at its fullest but close enough if you need to get anything.
