WyndyRidge Prairie

In the 1990's a ranchland section (640 Acres) was divided into 60+ acre small prairie farm properties.. Purchasing this pristine, untouched land in early 2000, we built our farm style home in 2004. Living where there are more hawks and pronghorn than people, this quiet prairie setting is a delightful home. WyndyRidge is aptly named for the almost constant breeze.

Harmony Ridge Farm

We purchase the land in 2010 with the hopes of building our dream home. 

We would come out and camp on weekends and soon built a small cabin from reclaimed materials. This cabin will be available for rental May 15th, 2023.

In 2012 we were given a 12x20 ft addition to a mobile home that was repossessed to form the basis of "the cottage" that we lived in "little house on the prairie" style for 2 years while we built our home from trees my husband  cut down and processed on his portable sawmill located behind the little cabin.   It took 2 years to build our home with the help of our 15 year old grandson and his friend who were taking a construction technology class for their homeschooling education.  Other friends and family helped on occasion and we were finally able to move in just before Christmas 2014.  In 2019 we started with Hipcamp providing rustic campsites and our little cottage.  in 2021 our son moved into the cottage which made it unavailable for campers so this past year we got another bright idea and the "Tree House" was conceived and built!  It will be available starting May 1, 2023!  Come enjoy the incredible view from this little house in the trees!  Queen sized bed, camp chef propane stove (outdoors) and tiny wood burning stove to take off the morning chill!  A new rustic camping cabin with a small deck is coming soon that will sleep 3-4. The views of Pikes Peak are awesome!   A small 10x12 2 story barn style cabin with a deck (fire pit - weather permitting) that we are offering as a community space especially if the weather is bad!  (It boasts a lift up side that will provide shade from the sun!). Horse Shoe Pit will be available soon as well.  

Enjoy the gentle humming of the alpaca's as they greet you in the mornings or whenever.  Our 9 alpaca's are friendly and are very curious.  The boys enjoy showing off their bluffness whenever we have guests!  Come and get acquainted. We also have two guard dogs; 3 cats (kittens coming soon); one rooster, 3 chickens with baby chicks to arrivsoon!  The sounds of the birds, cows in the meadow, early morning visits from the local deer and antelope herds; a star studded night sky while the trees whisper you to sleep at night .    Incredible views of Pikes Peak, Longs Peak and Mount Evans on a clear day.  Beautiful Colorado Sunrises and Sunsets!  We hope for green pastures and wildflowers this spring/summer!  Relax and read; play a few rounds of horseshoes; take a nice long walk around the perimeter of the property and get your miles in...

Alpacas love company so may come and visit you!

Originally from the city, we're now fully immersed in The Farm, located on gently rolling land in the Southwestern Plains of South Dakota.

Your campsite is located about 15 minutes in from SD44, and approximately 45 minutes from Rapid City. You will be driving on a dirt/gravel road to get to us. You may want to put your vehicle in 4wd to get to our place, as the dirt road that takes you to your campground is "lumpy". The location is perfect for a quick overnighter, if you're visiting South Dakota's nearby nature sights and parks.

Our family lives on the property, and we're happy to help answer any questions. This is a working farm, and you may see us on the pasture, upgrading and maintaining. We're glad to share with you and happy to have you ghost us as we work, if that's an interest of yours. Be sure to flag us down if you need anything.

ABOUT OUR CAMPGROUND

Pitch your tent, park your RV/camper, bus or other ride on our pasture and enjoy the stunning wide-open view of the rolling hills of Hermosa, the Black Hills, Badlands and unobstructed sunrise and sunset views. Kids and leashed fur babies camp free.

Your site has a picnic table for you to enjoy your meals outdoors. The views are stunning from this secluded spot, and there's a water spigot available nearby on the property.

Your campsite is located in the wild and rustic, sometimes windy, plains of South Dakota, and may not be for everyone. We can experience extreme weather in all seasons.

If you're into photography, you will experience some amazing and intense photo-worthy views.

When you stay with us, you will get the experience of camping in the middle of nowhere, South Dakota - wild, raw, sometimes windy and rugged. It's an amazing experience to be had - with stunning views and a feeling of freedom that's hard to find in more civilized and populated locations.

You may see or hear coyotes, deer, pronghorn, bull snakes and rattlers, owls, creepy-crawlers and experience annoying mosquitos and flies during the hotter summer season. 

Our guests have mentioned they feel like they're on another planet when they're here... of course! We're traveling on the Fifth Dimension out here, so don't be surprised if you hear from the other side. 

We believe that stewardship of the land is everyone's responsibility, and we're excited to share it with you to enjoy! Stargazing on the site can't be beat, and you may even catch a UFO or alien... if you're aligned!

Please bring your own blankets and sleeping bags. It can get to below freezing at night, so be prepared for travel and camping in sometimes extreme winter cold. Please check out the local forecast before traveling. We will be happy to refund any weather-related cancellations.

If you would like a complimentary cup of instant coffee or herbal tea brought to your site between 6-8 am, let us know what you'd like the night before and we'll send one over!

We offer a cold brown-bag style breakfast/snack for $5, as well. Your choice of a couple farm-fresh hard-boiled eggs with trail mix - or homemade sourdough bread/butter.

ABOUT THE AREA

There are a couple small local mini grocery stores and gas stations about 35 minutes away, in the town of Hermosa. There are also a handful of small country cafes - and city restaurants and amenities in Rapid City. 

Enjoy nearby hiking trails in the area, as well as bicycling, motorcycle and 4-wheel drive trails.

Hipcamp messages, email, and texts are the best way to reach us. We have little or no cell phone reception. Please help keep the cost down for us by removing your trash and cleaning the campsite prior to your departure. "Leave no Trace" campers only, please.

Firewood is available for 3$ a bundle, only when there are no local fire restrictions.

Be sure to read all the rules upon booking, and ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 4PM to keep your reservation.

Learn more about this land:Right now the property is pretty barren excluding our workshop that we use for a branding business. There is an amazing view of the mountains as well as stars. The property is very peaceful and very little disturbances. The perfect get away from the city! We are 45 minutes from Colorado Springs. Maybe 20 minutes from Ellicott and Callaghan where you can get groceries as well as gas

Learn more about this land:Beautiful open field with a few trees. Turn off dirt road between two blue wagon wheels. That area is fenced with cattle and prong horn on the other side. Beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains and a direct view of Pikes Peak. Nice open area with fresh air quiet breezy lazy days. Beautiful sunrises and spectacular sunsets. Perfect for Star gazing at night. Hiking, biking, and there are areas nearby to go dirt biking, off road, fishing, boating, etc. Please come and see!
