Located near the base of Mt. Blanca, a beautiful 14'er - and close to the Great Sand Dunes, wildlife and nature preserves, and reservoirs. Camp sites are located just 1 mile from the base of the mountain. The entire property is a hummingbird sanctuary, so your chances of seeing hummingbirds is quite high! We are also next to the elk migration crossing, so you could see elk, deer, pronghorns, or even get a visit from one of the wild horse packs in the valley!
This is a great location if you want to be close to things, but feel like you're far away! Lots of athletes come to this area to train at the higher altitude!
Visit the town of San Luis (the oldest town in Colorado), hop over to Antonito and check out the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic railroad, hit the UFO tower in Hooper, or just lounge on your campsite and get the best view of the Milky Way you've ever seen!

There is lots to do in the area, for water enthusiasts, the reservoir offers boating, fishing, and paddle boarding opportunities. For off-roaders try the famous Lake Como, or Blanca peak trail.
Our primitive campground ensures a true wilderness experience, so be sure to bring all the supplies you'll need for camping. Please remember to take your trash with you when you leave and leave no trace behind.

There is magic and more than that in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Surrounded by ancient and contemporary human history along with lots of room left for modern exploration ! The hard part is choosing what to do in the day before enjoying the night sky after.Learn more about this land:Secluded camping spot back up against a small mountain and a canal outside Ft.Garland, CO . Very private w/few to no cars passing by ever. Very few neighbors in site at all. The site is close to the canal with room for two tents and a vehicle down by the site and one at top . Pack in pack out human waste as we are close to a water source . Follow the wash located next to the heart with an arrow up to the second pinion tree and you will see the secret camp toilet . Open both lids to secure bag when using the restroom and seal the bag closed when done each time and take sealed bags home please as critters will find there way in ! Please clean toilet seat after use . Feel free to explore the property and check out the many critters and wildlife running around and an unbelievable night sky on a clear night. We are very close to a reservoir with great beaches , the Sand dunes and the town is only 8 mins drive for supplies ! It’s magical out here . We are still actively making the road and clearing out unwanted vegetation so just watch out for cacti . Welcome to King Jackelope No Fence Camp !

this was an awesome spot! i don’t think there were any other campers when we went so it felt like we truly had the whole place to ourselves! the mountain view was absolutely incredible, and the open night sky was spectacular to see! our dogs absolutely loved it, didn’t want to leave! temperature was great, didn’t need electric hookups. was a little windy, but nothing some bungee cables couldn’t fix! the host was also very kind and detailed with instructions, and allowed an early check in. overall this was spot was awesome and i would highly recommend!

Casa de Santa Maria is a beautiful and unique campsite. With outstanding views of Blanca Peak, Ute Mountain, and Culebra Peak you can stay in camp and be rewarded with eyefuls of beauty. As a base camp it is easy to get away to Great Sand Dunes National Park, or the hot springs in Hooper (Sand Dunes Recreation Hot Springs Pool). There’s great fishing and hiking opportunities along the way to Chama, New Mexico, and just 65 miles away in Taos you can enjoy history, art, and great food. Susan is a fantastic host! You won’t find a better place for a spiritual reset than Casa de Santa Maria!

This place was absolutely amazing. We had it completely to ourselves and never once felt unsafe. It was close enough to town to get a bite to eat but far enough away to have the amazing dark sky. The site has a picnic table and fire pit and the most amazing view of Blanca Peak. Definitely already planning my trip back.

This cozy spot is owned by two AMAZING people that make you feel like real VIPs! Susan's knowledge about the area and recommendations for places to explore as well as the friendly check-ins made our stay such a fantastic adventure. Steve is super friendly and helpful and his dog Luna makes you feel like you are the most special person in the world every time you see her!
My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of being their first ever campers on their land and they already seemed like pro hosts! The bathrooms are so clean and luxurious for a camp spot and our camp site had a great tent bed and fire ring that made set up super easy. Our pups loved having space to run around and all of the plants to sniff and of course enjoyed playing in the snow during our stay.
We recommend trying the amazing places to eat in town, definitely Sonja's for breakfast burritos! But if you bring your own food, there is plenty of space to feast with an amazing view all around you! There is a great short and beginner friendly hike to a nearby lake and we definitely recommend taking the walk up to the garden on the land, I'm sure it's even more beautiful once all of the flowers are in bloom! There are also plenty of birds to see, many different types and the wild horses are gorgeous if you're lucky to see them while you drive by.
We can't wait to come back to stay again!! Highly recommend!!
