Even though Deep Creek has never had any known cases of amoeba outbreaks, be advised that the warm waters around hot springs can carry a sometimes fatal amoeba. *Although children are permitted at most sites on the property (children are not permitted at the cabin or spring pool sites), we do not recommend bringing them due to occasional nudity that may be seen in the area and the degree of difficulty for the hike. In order to be prepared with the correct gear to make the hike to the hot springs and know the USFS rules that apply to the area, please educate yourself before coming by visiting the USFS website page for the Deep Creek area. Welcome! Our 'Tentsite Over Topanga' is a lovely private campsite high above the magical Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga Canyon. You will be treated to a sweeping view of the verdant Topanga landscape. Our host, (Peter Alsop) will meet you in the parking lot of the world-renowned Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum, show you where the bathrooms are, and together hike up 300 steps to the camp site. (Campers must be fit enough to make this climb!) Under the support posts of our former tipi, there is a 20 foot circle where 2 or 3 tents can be set up. We have a picnic table there for your convenience. Of course no fires of any kind are permitted, (including 'no smoking' please!). You may want to bring pre-made or delicatessen food and drinks, and come prepared for very warm days and cool nights. It's a very short path from the Tentsite up to the trail's end at the 'big rock overlook', and that's where the trail ends! There are many other wonderful hiking trails throughout Topanga in the nearby Santa Monica Mountains State Parks, ... and the Pacific Ocean beaches are only a :10 minute drive to the South. Many campers come specifically to see one of the fantastic shows at the Theatricum Botanicum, and then head back up the hill behind our outdoor theater and spend the night with family, friends or a special loved one sleeping under the stars over Topanga. This 2024 season we are presenting 5 plays: "Wendy's Peter Pan", Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "A Winter's Tale", Moliere's "Tartuffe" and a new play by Paola Aguilar, "The Hispanic/Latino/Latina/Latinx/Latine Vote". You can look up "Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum" on you browser and they will have ticket information and dates. We also have a small bakery on the grounds, where one can find excellent baked goods and coffee for sale on most Sunday mornings. Families with young children love seeing the lizards, butterflies, woodpeckers and other small wildlife they spotted around the site. Because a theater operates on the premises , no pets are allowed, and as for your trash, ... we ask that if you 'pack it in, ... please pack it out too!' We seem to have good telephone reception for almost all carriers, but we do not have wireless access. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: There really is only one small public transportation vehicle available. It's called "the Beach Bus" and it goes from San Fernando Valley, through Topanga to the beach and back again several times a day. Not really sure of their schedule, but you search for it and find out if you are interested. Most people have their own vehicles. MEETING UP? Peter will contact you and make plans to meet with you at the Theatricum and walk you up to the Tipi in the afternoon, (before showtime if you have reserved your tickets. You can come back down and visit to one of Topanga's many local restaurants for lunch or dinner, or just stay at the Tipi and chill. HIKING Our 'Tentsite Over Topanga' has been a pristine area for a very long time. If you'ld like to hike in Topanga, the Topanga State Park is only a couple of miles away. Leave the theater going south, headed toward the ocean. After about a mile and a half, you will see Entrada Road on your left, which will take you along the edge of the park. There is the Dead Horse Parking lot almost as soon as you turn onto Entrada, and a main entrance at the top of Entrada. Dogs are not allowed in the park. And you must be careful about wild life.

Had a great visit this past weekend! Friendly staff was there at check-in who gave me the run down of the campsite. The hike to the springs is a must! Make sure you go early so that you have plenty of time to spend in the water.

Lisa was amazing, showed us around the entire property walking around barefoot like a true warrior! We stayed at the campsite near the trailer, which was nice and roomy and had room for our big family tent. Close to the beach and some cool cafés nearby in Topanga canyon. Would highly recommend!

Staying at Cross Bull Ranch was an amazing getaway experience for my partner and I! We wanted to get out into nature somewhere that wasn't super far away from us and we definitely got what we were looking for. Lisa was a great host and we really enjoyed talking to her and plan on going back! Camp sites all were well maintained and we picked one with plenty of shade to get out of the summer heat. I recommend staying here if you want a convenient getaway. Wish we could've stayed longer! Thank you Lisa!!

I didn’t need to bring a canopy as there is plenty of shade or chairs which were already provided was nice. This was a nice not far from home getaway. You’re not far off the main highway but it still feels secluded. You can sleep in a tent but also jump in your car and go to a cafe, bistro, or market 5-10 minutes away if you wanted to. I think my spot at the moon lodge was the best as you’re tucked in a nice corner by the stream and the mountain. Lisa was very sweet and accommodating, we were the only ones there when we went to it was nice to have the place to ourselves. She has dogs but they were so well trained they didn’t make a peep the whole time we were there. She even has a rooster that Lisa let us feed which i loved ! Bathrooms were clean but you have to walk outside of the property to get there. The equalivent of maybe 1 street block give or take depending on where you are. Which is not uncommon for camping. I 100% recommend this spot of your looking for something local. :)

Lisa was a really good host. She was super friendly and welcoming and made it easy to arrive unassisted. I brought my two young daughters and they loved swinging on the rope swing and exploring the dry creek bed. We had a nice propane fire pit. (No real fires allowed). And when we needed bug spray I drove 5 minutes to pick it up and come back. feels removed from LAand yet not at all removed from civilization.

I loved my time at deep creek it was a great hike and there is a rec tent with activities in the evening. A hit tub a sauna and a pool table. It was a wonderful experience. I look forward to coming back and checking out their glamping tents.

The property has a sweet, private enclosure to pitch your tent with a firepit, table and chairs, and water. And some pretty sweet dogs to greet you. :) It was also cool to see the early stages of a desert permaculture farm.

Weekend Trip to Cross Bull Ranch/CBR

Lisa set us up again for an amazing visit to her place this past weekend. We had warm heaters and clean bathrooms and made full use of the amazing space. The kids had a great adventure with the swing and running through the trails on the hill. What's great about the location is with how easy it is to get the central are in Topanga. On Saturday afternoon we took a field trip to the coffee shops, restaurants and had a great hike at Red Rock Canyon Park thanks to a recommendation from Lisa. We will all be returning back to Lisa's again this summer.
