Although Morgan(the owner) has retired, he's made his property to feel as if you're in the middle of the woods complete with swimming hole, fire pit, outdoor kitchen, sauna and more! Our trailer and cave shower entrance are on the smaller size and may not be comfortable for larger bodied individuals. We are closed June-August because the trailer has no A/C and we're too busy with our Swimply pool business. You can book it only as an add-on for pool guests during that time. Learn more about this land:A vast expanse of oak trees, California Junipers and rugged, mountainous land running with jackrabbits, quail, and owls that is just 3 miles from Vazquez Rocks and the PCT, our ranch transports you. From the tent campsite, you look out for 20 miles and see nothing but nature across small mountains and canyons all the way to the peaks of Angeles National Forest in the distance. The campsite is a large flat area. For a trailer or RV it's a great place to park and the view is towards wide open spaces. With a tent or if you want more pure nature, you can drive out onto the property further towards the small ruin of the old homesteader's cabin or beyond. The property has a long-abandoned gold mine and circular arrastres where miners used mules to break up rocks. Nearby Acton has pick-your-own apples/pears/peaches at Bloom farms. We are at 3000 feet with strong sun during the day and cool mountains air at night. The camping is set away from structures, but if you want to stroll, closer to the ranch buildings, we have friendly small goats you can visit if interested and horses and a donkey to say hello to across the corral fence.

Such a cute, private spot near the city. The canned ham may be small but it is so cozy and full of character. The bed was very comfy, and we appreciated a kettle being provided. We did need to pick up our own mugs, so keep that in mind if you like a warm beverage in the morning. The cooler is convenient, but we wouldn’t advise expecting it to function as a fridge. The space around the camper is very private feeling with trees around it. The hot tub is such a lovely addition and was fun to use. The whole property is very dreamy. There was plenty of space for eating outdoors. Although the weather for us didn’t permit using the pool, it was so beautiful to look at. The bathroom is just a short walk away, and has awesome decor. We would advise bringing sandals or slides for walking to and from the bathroom and shower. The shower is a fun experience, although it’s important to note it’s quite small (width wise) to enter into the cave area. It’s not feasible for dressing in there, so you will also need to be comfortable walking back in your towel or a robe. The road to the home is very steep and narrow. Street parking is limited but we didn’t have an issue finding parking every night, even when we came back later. There are a couple of cats on the property that visited us and were so cute and friendly. We also got to meet Morgan who was very helpful and kind! We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

We had an amazing time camping at Ed’s place near Lake Elsinore! The site was clean, peaceful, and easy to find. The sunset view over the lake was absolutely beautiful, and the stars at night were incredible. Ed was a great host—he gave clear directions and even checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend this spot for families or anyone who wants a quiet getaway close to nature.

We loved our stay in the Tinned Ham Camper! The property itself was amazing with kitschy and fun decor, beautiful views, friendly hosts, and adorable cats. My favorite part of our stay was the hot tub just a couple steps from our door. We also loved that even though we’re in the middle of Eagle Rock it felt like we traveled to somewhere secluded and romantic. I can’t wait to return here!

Wonderful services and even better property. Everything from the bathroom decor and the interior of the teardrop trailer, to the small details around the yard that made the experience live up to its name. The hosts hospitality and responsiveness to our delays in arrival was very earnest and friendly, and their service was overall wonderful. Very cozy, very pampering, amazing hot tub. We didn’t get to use the beautiful pool with waterslide and grotto. And I haven’t even mentioned the great view, the awesome cave shower and the many kitties roaming around. A perfect getaway. Recommend 100%

The Place is absolutely gorgeous. Very clean and private with great parking spots for non 4X4 vehicles. Port potty was clean. You can park your vehicle on the shore although I wouldn’t advise it for non 4X4 vehicles. The only con I would say is that it’s so close to the street that you can hear the cars go by but it was okay. There is everything you need in 5 minute drive radius, so don’t worry if you forget anything. The host is super friendly and responsive. Definitely coming back again.

Where to go

Bolsa Chica State Beach, Huntington Beach

Looking for beach RV camping near Long Beach? Head 30y minutes south to Bolsa Chica Beach, a state beach in Orange County with a campground, fire rings, picnic tables, and full hookups. While tent beach camping isn’t allowed, it’s a great place to hang for the day (and maybe take a shower) while enjoying the cresting waves this area is known for. The three-mile shore is much less crowded than Long Beach, and with a nature reserve attached, you can see rare wildlife, too. Lastly, we love that this beach is handicapped accessible and is pet-friendly.

San Bernardino National Forest, San Bernardino

About 90 minutes from Long Beach, San Bernardino National Forest is an adventurer’s haven. You’ll find some dedicated tent sites here, as well as group camping options and cabins. Like many other national forests across the United States, you can usually find dispersed camping here, too. Many campers enjoy visiting Big Bear Lake, a stunning body of water that boasts recreation throughout the year, while Castle Rock Trail and Pine Knot trails are popular hiking routes around the water. Heart Rock trail features a unique waterfall.

San Onofre State Beach, San Diego County

To enjoy the rugged, natural beauty of the Long Beach area, check out San Onofre State Beach in San Diego County about an hour’s drive south. This state park is one of the top-visited parks in California, with options to surf, kayak, sunbathe, fish, or watch whales and dolphins. There are a few main areas: the bluffs, the surf beach by the sea, and San Mateo Campground, which boasts water hookups, RV sites, a dump station, and its very own waterfront with some of the best surf on the Pacific Coast.

When to go

Long Beach is gorgeous for camping throughout the year, with nighttime temperatures never dipping below 50°F in the winter months. That said, California’s state parks are much busier during the summer, so you might have better luck avoiding crowds if visiting outside of the peak months of June, July, and August. The best chances for seeing gray and humpback whales is January through April.
