Terra Vivus

3 sites · RVs, Tents1 acre · Lake Hughes, CA
Welcome to a great balance of being away from civilization, engulfed in nature with peace and quiet yet also being 30 minutes away from the nearest city. Terra Vivus is Latin for "The Earth is alive." Chipmunks, crows, doves, crickets, coyotes, sparrows and many other creatures call this land home. This is protected land called a Significant Ecological Area mostly because of the thousands of Joshua Trees. 25% of all revenue goes to restoring, preserving and enhancing the existing ecosystem. Come experience and contribute to the preservation of this beautiful landscape. It can be windy at times, in order to mitigate this I recommend using your car(s) to block the wind. Local markets also sell neck gaiters for face protection. Release your inhibitions to wind! There's about .4 miles of dirt road to get to the property, there are some dips to watch out for but I come out here in a little Prius so it's manageable. Overall, there is an element of seclusion but occasionally people do drive by on the dirt road. I would rate the cell phone service a 7/10, it's pretty solid but can go out at times.

Joshua Tree Ranch Los Angeles

5 sites · RVs, Tents3 acres · Lake Hughes, CA
This valley was inhabited by the Kitanemuk tribe for thousands of years. They would live here in the winter, and spend the summers hunting and gathering pine nuts and acorns up in the Tehachapi and San Gabriel mountains. This region is called the Antelope Valley because there used to be antelope-looking creatures called pronghorns. My first trip out here was to watch the Blood Wolf Moon lunar eclipse of 2019. It didn't disappoint! This is the spot to come look at the stars, howl at the moon, eat jerky, draw weird cactus trees in your sketch book, whatever!Learn more about this land:Joshua trees 50 miles closer to LA than the Joshua Tree National Park! This is 2.5 acres of protected Joshua Tree lands in the Antelope Valley north of LA, between the snowy Tehachapi Mountains and the San Gabriel Mountains. My first time out there I saw BOTH ENDS of a rainbow in front of the snowy Tehachapis!! Super dark skies, and a million stars at night. You'll probably see the Milky Way! It does get breezy at night, so dress appropriately. It feels like the wild west out here, and that's the main appeal--no rules, nobody watching. Think long dirt roads, tumbleweeds, bones, and maybe some old bullet shells (there's no shooting allowed on the property anymore). This is not a state-maintained, paved, manicured operation--it's the edge of the desert wilderness. Please respect the property and clean up after yourself! This is for people who are comfortable exploring beyond a concrete slab with electricity and janitor-cleaned restrooms. There are no designated sites, so pick whatever looks good to you. We often have multiple parties at once, so feel free to spread out. This land used to be the domain of the Ketanemuk tribe, which I think means People From The East. In the summer they would go up and hunt and get pine nuts in the Tehachapi Mountains, and acorns from the oak trees in the San Gabriels. The property itself is along a dirt road called Avenue C. It's about a 20 minute drive from the town of Neenach (pronounced Nee-nack), where there's a general store and a cafe. They make a great breakfast burrito. It's also a few minutes from the State Poppy Reserve, which blooms in the spring with miles of California poppies. If you have a larger group or event in mind, get in touch! We can figure out how to accommodate you.

THE GREAT BAR-B's RANCH

40 sites · RVs, Tents80 acres · California City, CA
For years we've raced the Mojave Desert, and the areas within the California City, City limits. We loved the area for racing and for camping out. This is where the sun shines about 330 days of the year and where the absolutely stunning, clear, starry skies, pop up every night. We just had to find a place for us desert-lovers. After looking all over the desert, our friend, who owned ten acres just 3.2 miles from the City limits, in East Kern County, invited us to look at his property. They called their ranch, Hi-Vista Ranch. We visited his property and after looking at many pieces of land to buy in the high desert, we knew we had found it. What sold us was that it was the only plot of land for miles, that offered a 360-degree view of fabulous desert escapes and including the wonderful city of California City. It was gorgeous. Anywhere you looked the views were extraordinary! We were sold and bought the ten acres. Subsequently we bought additional acres adjacent and contiguous to ours, including a beautiful hillside where we often parked and enjoy the magnificent visual experience that is the Alta Vista Ranch (we re-named it; meaning “high vistas” in Spanish). In recent years, we have once again re-named the ranch as the Racing Ranch, to better describe its function. It now serves as headquarters for a series of competition events, including mountain bike racing, off-road events, Pony Express rides, drone racing, running marathons; and the very popular “desert tours.” All start and end at the ranch. Moreover, the Racing Ranch serves as the main stage for two yearly music “concerts on the hills.” Also known as the “RAW FESTIVAL.” All major events are blocked off on the calendar. But when possible, we allow a portion of the campers to rent on the same days of any event. However, there are plenty of weekend and weekdays to enjoy the solitude of the ranch for Dry RV Camping. Remember, the high desert is not only magnificent, but year-round you can enjoy crisp weather in the Fall and Winter and warm temperatures in the Spring and Summer months. We often get plenty of out of the Country tourists to visit the ranch in the middle of Summer, where temperatures can reach 110 degrees. But as they say, “It’s a dry heat!”  Learn more about this land:Semi-flat and graded 10 acres available for Dry Camping, plus exclusive spots where parking is allowed also with great view. However, you must have 4WD to access these special spots. The view of the Northern desert and mountain range is truly spectacular. On clear days, from our high spot, the crown and tip of Mount Whitney can be seen. Truly a beautiful spot to just sit back and enjoy the Majesty of the Mojave Desert, or venture from there to incredible sites and locations in the desert. We also have available GPS files to use with your GPS unit to explore the desert. From ten mile loops to over 70-mile loops and longer. Ask for them. Also guided tours are available for individuals or for a group. These need to be booked in the advance. Please note this booking includes one vehicle, extra vehicles are $29 each per night and you'll need to pay with cash upon arrival.
