Hiking and horseback riding trails lead directly from the property into Spur Cross Conservation Area—or take a short 10-minute drive to a main trailhead. Black Mountain Hiking Trail is also nearby and offers panoramic views of the valley. You can even ride your horse into town and tie up at the local cowboy bars! ⸻ A few things to note: • The landscape varies with the season—there won’t be green grass in the summer • Please keep pets away from cactus—they bite! • We’re located in a desert neighborhood, so please respect the nearby homes. Welcome to Red Rock Roping! Where you will be a close 3 mile drive to old town Cave Creek restaurants, bars, and shopping strip. But far enough to enjoy a quiet and peaceful scenery of mountains, sunsets and sunrises. Don’t forget to kick your feet up, and end your night to enjoy a wide open view of the stars! Also, keep your eyes open for desert critters such as rattlesnakes, tarantulas, scorpions, deer, road runners, bob cats, and coyotes. We ask please do not pet, catch, feed or leave any food out that will attract them. Enjoy them from a picture away :) Our 2 accessible acres will give you 360 view of mountains, our Red Rock Roping arena, and a Saloon to gather under to enjoy cool refreshments, and a meal with your friends/family. Right outside our entrance going North on 80th Street you can hike over to the Grapevine Wash which is a short walk away from the Cave Creek Town Trail System for hiking and horseback riding, and if you’re adventurous you can hike up 2 miles of a 800’ climb on a gravel road/trails to “Mexican Hat” for an even more incredible view! We are a 30 amp full hook up (sewer, water & electrical) for 33’ RV’s and living quarters horse trailers. You will also have access to our community laundry area, with a large garbage can to dump a bag if needed. Some suggestions for town; Grab some quick delicous breakfast and coffee at Janey’s. Or American cuisine lunch at The Horny Toad, a Mexican cuisine dinner while watching the turtles in the pond at El Encanto! Ofrenda, right at the end of the road, also has great authentic Mexican cuisine. Many restaurants to choose from all within a short drive. Bashas, Safeway, Target, and Walmart and Sprouts are all within a 3-6 mile drive too! We have two turnout pens for horses. That are located right behind where you will park your trailer. They both have a cover that provides some shade, as well as running water. We do not provide any feed, so please make sure you bring some! We ask that you please do not feed any horses that do not belong to you. Or go into any pen that your horse is not in. For safety and respect :) Thank you in advance. (Horse turnouts are an extra $25 each/per night)

We found this place on a last minute whim and it was such a treat. Mel was very helpful and quick to respond to questions! They let us move to sites that were open to be in the shade (very sunny and hot). They had great amenities (clean bathroom and shower, shaded porch). The sunset and sunrise were beautiful! My son loved petting the horses.

Red Rock Roping is a great escape from the traffic and crowds of the Greater Phoenix area. We stayed 2 nights, in a very quiet upscale neighborhood. Enjoyed good food at the Horny Toad and Ofrenda. We drove into Scottsdale to tour Frank Lloyd Wrights desert studio Taliesin West. And hiked in Spur Cross Ranch preserve. Our host Mel was great about communicating, the sites are level, and the 2 other HipCampers were quiet but friendly. Great shared areas, clean bathroom, good showers and laundry. Would definitely stay again - thanks so much for hosting us.

Absolutely loved this place. The owners have gone above and beyond to accommodate campers. Gravel campsites, sewer, water, electric, a grill, bathroom with a shower and laundry facilities. They even have accommodations for horses. Unbelievable sunsets every night. So much better than an RV park. Absolutely would return.

Walking trail right off main road to walk our dog. 30 amp is on extension cord and worked fine to run our a/c. Loved it.

This was our first time using Hipcamp (& our trailer) & loved our experience. Macy was great with communications, was incredibly welcoming, hospitable & kind. She was generous with her time showing my human circus around & even let them meet her new chicks (so stinking adorable). The property was close enough to town & other “stuff” that we didn’t feel like we were too far into isolation, yet off the main road enough to feel like we could enjoy the great outdoors. The great takeaways were: we felt that we could message her & get a quick response, we felt safe with her & being at her property, we were off the beaten trail just the right amount & we loved how welcoming she was to our tiny human. oooh! For any other first-timers: measure first, set up second. After setting up & leveling the trailer we learned we were 5” short on reaching the electric outlet. Total Back to the Future moment trying to connect cords. Good times! Thank you, Macy for the memories! And thank you for laughing with us (or maybe at us 😁) through it all.

We had a fantastic night. Our campsite was next to a huge Saguaro that she has illuminated with a light. We had shore power, which was wonderful, and then spent the evening next to the fire pit watching the stars. We could hear coyotes in the distance, and virtually no sounds of civilization. We felt like we were alone in the desert. The following morning we were able to see their horses and pigs, which is always fun and was a bonus for us. We would highly recommend staying here. We are so thankful that they shared their property with us.

Where to go

Lost Dutchman State Park

Journey to the Old West in this historical area 45 minutes outside Phoenix, Arizona. With stunning views of the Superstition Mountains, campers can adventure into marked trails suitable for all. For a bigger challenge, the 4-mile Siphon Draw Trail winds through a canyon reaching a 1,000-foot elevated basin that connects to the Flatiron. This trail at Lost Dutchman State Park is not maintained beyond the basin (so be aware of your surroundings), and it takes about 5-6 hours to complete. Retire for the night back at the Lost Dutchman Campground or a nearby Hipcamp.

Lake Pleasant Regional Park

Set up for some core camping memories at Lake Pleasant, where the water is glistening, the desert is sizzling, and the stars are shining. Whether tenting or RV camping, campers can hike, swim, boat, and picnic the day away. Explore canyons, rock walls, and underwater wildlife with some of the best inland scuba diving in the western United States, an epic way to cool off.

Tonto National Forest

Canyons, cacti, and creeks flow through Tonto National Forest, about one hour away from Phoenix. With surrounding mountains and the Valley of Tonto Creek at its core, this area provides acres of rugged landforms, desert vegetation, and diverse wildlife. Campers visit year-round for open-air, tent camping, RV hookups, horse camping, dispersed sites, and campgrounds. With 200 miles of Mogollon Rim and what the U.S. Department of Agriculture claims are some of the best trails in the country, be sure to grab a permit to fully enjoy this national forest.

When to go

December to February or March to May are recommended for those looking to explore with a little less heat.
