This old cabin has been refurbished and in use for several years. It is located in the fabled San Pedro River Valley, 35 miles from the closest town, Benson. Half of that distance is a dirt road, occasionally graded. It sleeps 2 with an additional bedroom space nearby in the 'penthouse'. This is wilderness. I require a 3 day minimum stay and 2 months maximum. Closed over the hot summer June-Oct 1. DOGS: a maximum of 2 on leash. The cabin has one double bed - towels, pillows and bed linens provided. Use of the additional separate bedroom goes for $25 a night. There is a counter for eating and food prep plus a sink and small refrigerator, a microwave, toaster oven and all sorts of electrical appliances for cooking. Heating is with a small pot bellied wood stove that came out of a caboose. Wood is provided. No air conditioning. You can hike right out the cabin door for miles and never see a soul. Sue will give you directions and where there are limitations. If you have a dog(s) with you, please understand they need to be under control. You may NOT leave them in the cabin/porch alone as dogs have ruined the porch screening and escaped for hours. The bathhouse is separate with a hot shower, colorful Mexican sink and a composting toilet. There is additional space and refrigeration for food storage for long term stays. Sustainability is a watchword in this community which is most concerned about the impact to the land and its creatures that we humans bring.

These “city neighborhood styled areas” are NOT desirable; mixed communities with nice houses and junk properties intermingled and virtually no land or easy forest/wildland access. At The Cottage, you will not be in a suburban or semi-rural neighborhood. You’ll be staying far from local cities. This is a free-standing, remote, deep-in-the forest place with a gorgeous view of the famous Spring Valley and mountain views of Mt. Sitgreaves. Start at The Cottage’s door and virtually head out! Take a 2 mile RT flat walk to Spring Valley Tank, a very popular watering hole for all thirsty wildlife around here on the Spring Valley X-Country Ski Trail. Take a hike or dirt bicycle ride to Shulz Pass and see it's gorgeous high mountain meadows about 1 mile past Spring Valley Tank. Or for near 360 degree views of most of Northern Arizona’s highest peaks plus a glimpse of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, take a 4 mile RT horseback ride or hike due East to Lone Tree Lookout, about 1/2 mile past Spring Valley Knoll. And if you dare and you’re in high altitude climbing condition, try mountain hiking to the peak of Mt. Sitgreaves due West of here. No fire roads. No trails unless you stumble upon an elk trail. We are told that only 5 people per year find the summit and make it to the top. Please advise us if you intend to try it. If you tackle this challenge, please advise us when you depart and when we should expect your return. Please have a cell phone AND GPS emergency locator with you if you try. Horseback riding is usually available year ‘round, limited by weather and ground conditions (mud/snow). Smooth sole riding/cowboy boots mandatory (we rent boots @ $5 per ride). Other mandatory wear: long sleeve shirt, long pants (no shorts), jeans preferred (no leggings, comfy pants, or jogging outfits), ski clothing OK in Winter, waterproof clothing/rain gear during Summer monsoons (June 20 - Sept 20), well-lined or heated gloves in Winter, thick or heated socks in Winter, sunglasses recommended in Summer and if snow cover is >50%, and long Johns or layers in Winter. We saddle. Free but mandatory acquainting where you groom, pick hooves, do ground work and ride in small areas to start. Then, we will rate your comfort, confidence and control and set riding limits accordingly: on our roads only, in the 3 acre fenced pasture, our 40 acre fenced property, or ride off property. All off property rides require a guide. Hosted target shooting may be available at additional cost that varies depending on weapons chosen and cost of their ammunition. Big game requires tags must be acquired about a year in advance. No game processing on site. Imagine pulling through the gate into Ranchito Paraiso - a desert paradise, seemingly remote, but just minutes from the town of Benson. First, you will feel calm and peaceful. On your right, you will see the corrals for our sweet donkeys, Miss Fiona, Haiku, and Felipe Ortiz, sureley hanging out with their sidekick naughty goats, Harley and Quinn. To the left, you will see an abundance of giant Mesquite trees and Kassandra - a lovingly renovated RV nicknamed the Micro Mansion. To the right of the south ranch gate, you will see the rustic elegance of Kasita Morada, the purple house. Our neighbors tend to be javelina, owls and coyotes. There have been occasional bobcats and lynx. We live in a ranching community, so neighbors are few and far. (there is a KOA across the north side of our unpaved road). You will love the stars and the moon and the quiet here at the Ranchito. It is a wonderful getaway. The views are phenomenal. Sunsets are magical and sunrises provide beauty and hope. You will be within 15 minutes to Kartchner caverns. Tombstone is 20 mins, whereas Bisbee, AZ vineyards and Tucson are about 40 mins away. The Ranchito is 3/4 mile north of I-10 and one mile from the Amtrak line that runs between LA and Texas. San Pedro golf course is a few hundred yards away. The Ranchito is an artsy retreat with quirky yet elegant accommodations and a wonderful space to breathe, create, write, binge on Netflix, or just take a break to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine and bird watch. Let us know if you'd like to hang with the donkeys. They love to cuddle. Even though the grocery store is two miles away, you will feel remote. So far, elegant glamping is available in a lovingly renovated RV named Kassandra and a custom DIY tiny home (Kasita Morada). Guests find both units quite stunning (check out our reviews via our website, ranchitoparaisoaz.com). My name is Kareva and I am a professional host who works hard to make your stay memorable, comfortable, and rustically elegant. You will find the fridge stocked with fresh local farm eggs, butter, muffins, half and haf, French jam and cheese. There is a selection of teas. I grind fresh coffee beans. If you'd like a firepit under the stars, one will be ready for you already set up with kindle and a stack of wood. If you need more wood, you are welcome to gather it on the property. Both Kassandra and Kasita Morada have outdoor seating and dining areas, kitchens, and Smart TVs with high-speed Wifi. The Ranchito has beautiful mountain views. Pets are welcome, but please keep on a leash as we do not have individual guest yards as of yet. We do have our two amazing potbelly pigs, Jonah and Benjamin, who roam and forage. They are sweet and sociable and would love fruit and veggie scraps. Please keep dogs away from them and keep ranch gate closed. Please keep children away from the donkeys and never let them approach them without my supervision. There may be other guests and their pets present on the property. If you are traveling with large animals, such as horses or cows, we can accommodate them also.

This is a nice spot on a gentle slope that overlooks the beautiful plateaus of Petrified Forest National Park. There is a convenient store located over the bridge, south of the Sun Valley exit off the 40 freeway. Very light locals through traffic. Sits on a hill, further away from all the other homes. Sometimes you can expect wild horses, jack rabbits and cows at a safe distance. Also highway noise depending on direction of wind. Here you can enjoy amazing star gazing and shooting stars on a dark night with no moon. This upgraded spot now has lots more amenities than before. This is an adorable 10x10 non-insulated shed/cabin with one bunk bed above sofa bed, refrigerator, coffee counter top with cabinet storage dishes, pots and pans and utensils. You can also enjoy an indoor wood burning stove or a Portable Buddy heater and a two burner Coleman stove with propane tank, hot or cold running water and sink. We provide a double cartridge toilet that flushes. Enjoy the outdoor patio area with two hammocks, coffee table and chairs, two bonfire pits and even a large dog pen for your small traveling buddies to enjoy. More pictures to come soon.
