Sleepy Bear cabin was built as a retreat for my father here in Alaska. Our 1st year listed on Hipcamp our cabin came in second in best places to stay in Alaska with Hipcamp. The last 2 years we were still mentioned in the top 10 with some pretty stiff competition.
Eagle River South Fork trail with stunning views of Eagle and Symphony lakes is a short bike ride away.
Breathtaking Barbara Falls is in our valley 10mins away. You hike up to the falls and feels its breath.
Our Mountain views at 2000' elevation in the alpine forest with the 7000' snow covered peaks at the back of the valley will awe you.
Morning coffee on your private deck alone is worth the trip.

If you're a foodie, cruise 2.5 miles into "town" for a bite at one of 4 locally owned restaurants or a coffee at one of the coffee shops. Enjoy live music every summer weekend at one of 3 different music venues.
Hope does not have a gas station, so please plan ahead and fuel up in Girdwood, Cooper Landing or Seward before heading to town. There is a small market here, so if you forget an essential, you'll be able to purchase ice, water, beer, snacks, etc. here in town.

This is such a cool property! The cabin was cozy and warm on some very cold nights. It’s a short walk from parking and to the lake super convenient location to truly experience this part of Alaska, hole still being a short drive (across a frozen lake!) from the small town of Big Lake and about 30 min from Wasilla for restaurants, groceries, and some incredible local breweries and pizza! Amelya and her family are super welcoming and have carved out an incredible place here. While it is hard off the grid, they’ve maintained a very homey, familial feeling that’s something you can’t just manufacture. The scenery is beautiful and the Northern Lights made an appearance. Amelya and her husband Wyatt (and even their two cool sons) were super responsive and just a short walk away, willing to help out with any needs during the stay and great suggestions for activities and food. We were even included in a NYE celebration bonfire on the lake! Can’t wait to return to Alaska and will definitely be staying here if available!!!

We absolutely love this place. Love the serenity and privacy. The host is top-notch and provides for every need. We are returning guests and this is by far our favorite place to camp. I hope future guests will respect the land and be good stewards, pick up your trash, pick up after your pets, leave it as clean or cleaner than you found it. We snuck away for one quick last trip of the season and Kris’s spot was perfect! Beautiful and so quiet, our kids and pup had a ball running around. Great spot and host, highly recommend!

I absolutely loved this campsite! It was private, peaceful, and set up perfectly—everything I needed for a relaxing getaway. The location right on the Little Su was absolutely beautiful, and it was easy to get to as well. The host was great to rent from and made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Such a gem of a property!! Very thoughtful accommodations, clean, quiet and private. There's plenty of space to spread out, and the river was so clear and peaceful. Kiddos had a blast exploring the trails, river, and picking wild berries. The fire pit cranks!! Nice and toasty and the pavilion is such a charming and well apprecited addition. We definitely recommend and hope to return soon! Kris was very responsive and helpful. Lovely host!! I hope future renters are respectful to the property and leave it nice and clean so others can continue to enjoy!

It was a nice place. Very quiet and relaxing. The view from the deck was perfect. The only thing I’d recommend is maybe adding a sign or something similar at the end of the driveway so it stands out a bit. It took me a few minutes to find it.
