Welcome to CAMP 222, a private campground nestled on approximately 1 acre of land adjacent to Lewis Smith Lake in Cullman, AL. Experience the tranquility of lake life as you enjoy boating adventures accessed via our private boat ramp. While there may be some road noise from County Road 222, especially during daytime hours, it typically tapers off in the evening and nighttime. Enjoy stunning views of the 4th of July fireworks from Smith Lake Park, as our property provides a prime vantage point. Lewis Smith Lake, managed by Alabama Power, spans 21,000 acres and is the deepest lake in Alabama at 264 ft. The water level varies throughout the year, usually reaching full-pool from April to July before gradually decreasing for the autumn and winter seasons. Please note the rocky shore near the sun deck, which is why jumping or diving from the sun deck is prohibited. The nearby City of Cullman, located approximately 10 miles away, offers abundant shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Additionally, the city hosts numerous festivals throughout the year, including the Strawberry Festival in April, Octoberfest in October, and Christkindlmarkt in November & December.

This area was called Boot's Bottoms growing up and the name stuck. There is a rock wall close to the campsite that was a old grist mill site. This campsite is so easy to camp at. Danny has Dark Hollow so well setup, maintained, and organized. The property has everything a tent camper looking for a creek spot to leisurely explore. We tent camped for 2 nights. I have a small car, which allowed me to pull right up to the campsite we chose, named “The Ledge.” We had a fire pit, picnic table, immediate trailhead access, and a view I dream of waking up to always. We spent hours exploring the creek, laying out in the sun, birdwatching, and more. The trails are easy to follow, however, you need hiking boots. I would say the trails we did were easy with moderate-difficult areas depending on how far you decide to go. If you are someone who loves simple outdoor camping, book a few nights at Dark Hollow. There is an outdoor propane powered shower at the top of the campground, an outhouse toward the bottom/middle, a spigot for utility water, and trash cans. There is an option to add on firewood; I didn’t have to haul bundles of it in my tiny car. Oh, man. We had the best time here. I highly suggest Dark Hollow for tent campers who want to explore outside of public parks. Thank you, Danny, for sharing such a special place.

Wonderful overnight at this property. The owner has clearly put a lot of thought and care into making this an enjoyable and beautiful place to camp. A steep hiking trail is very worth traversing for the beautiful stream and scenery at the bottom of the hill. Would stay again.

Excellent place, beautiful camp sites. Lots of firewood available. Take a hike down into the hollow... it lives up to its name. Its dark and spooky down in the bottoms following the trails down. There's showers and bathrooms available. It's a quiet place, very secluded and feels safe. We were the only people there that night and still felt very safe. There's a gated entrance that's locked at night so nobody can just wander in. Im looking forward to cooler weather so we can return.

We had a really great time!! When we camped in we had 9 campers. 9 more visiting family members a total of 18. We had easy access with family members coming in by boat and car. We had a wonderful time and definitely would recommend. The host had very quick responses to my inquiries. Not to mention a very sweet father that was beaming with pride when he showed us the place and gave us a map and magazine with an article written about camp 222 .

Tent site 1 was very private and quiet - exactly what we were looking for! The bathrooms are up a little gravel hill and are closer to all the other sites than this one, but the walk was just fine for us. Bathrooms were very clean and cute and even had some strategically placed screws in the walls to use as hooks for our stuff.

Beautiful piece of property, great location to stop at when driving thru. Cute little camping spots throughout the property with string lights and fire pits. Private and quiet from road and highway noise. The frogs come alive at night, the sounds they make are incredible. All the amenities are provided and some extras. Def on our list when passing thru again.
