Escape the heat at Ponderosa Group Campground. At 8,500 feet above sea level, it’s the perfect high-elevation getaway during the dog days of summer. But the real attraction here—be it spring, summer, or fall—is Lake Isabel. This man-made, 40-acre lake is a popular spot for kayaking and canoeing as well as fishing, mostly for brown and brook trout. Also on-site at this 60-person group campground: volleyball and horseshoes. Should you prefer to hike, bike, or ATV, hit the nearby Cisneros Trail or Snowside Trail.
