Apalachicola National Forest is a great place to escape to for a night or two if you live in or near Tallahassee (it’s a really short drive west). You’re able to choose between both developed and dispersed camping opportunities—only the developed sites have fees. If you choose to go with one of the many developed campgrounds here, know that there are no hook ups for RVs and all sites are first-come first-serve. Camping is allowed anywhere in the forest for up to 14 days (in a 30 day period) except during hunting season, during which you’ll need to stick to the primitive hunt camps. As you plan your visit, please check out the official campground webpage on the Forest Service website to find information on maps, alerts and notices, and any necessary fees and permits.

Goat House Farm is a 501(c)3 owned micro-farm in a rural area of Tallahassee on the beautiful Lake Talquin. The farm has its humble beginnings in the summer of 2015 with four acres, four goats, and four chickens. Founded on the love of animals and a passion for sustainability, we remain committed to compassionate practices and the most natural care of our land and animals as possible. Private campsite in the middle of the city! My family and I were lucky enough to find a four acre urban forest less than two miles from FSU, the Florida Capitol and downtown Tallahassee. And just a mile from midtown! We are welcoming tent campers to come experience camping in an urban forest. The camping area has a hot water shower and sink, and the main site (#76), is fully outfitted with fire ring, tent pad, fresh water, a picnic table and plenty of hammock trees! The camp area has space for up to 6 tent campers and 2 cars. All sites share the shower and sink areas and a port-o-potty that is professionally cleaned weekly. Sprinter style vans (UPDATE) - We successfully had a Sprinter Van on the site and have now started accepting booking for that style van. Due to limitations on space and clearance, we can only allow vans with a max of around 10 1/2' tall and 23' long. This is equivalent to a Sprinter 170. We can not fit RVs or extended wide bodies conversions. Pets: Pets on leashes are allowed on the property. Guests with aggressive animals will be asked to leave.

Located 5 miles east off of Hwy 386, it's a 7 minute drive to Mexico Beach, and 15 minutes to wewahitchka, where you'll find dining and supplies. Fishing is just steps away, and if you want to have us take you Fishing on the ICW, we can arrange that for a fee. Notes: ⁃ We recommend an SUV or truck to navigate the dirt road leading to this amazing place. Sometimes it's graded sometimes it's rough after a lot of rain. All-wheel drive would be ideal, especially after rainy conditions! That said, I have had my jetta there, but it's not always a great road. ⁃ You should be able to get a small camper on the land if you have a powerful vehicle, but I recommend you stick with car or tent camping. Truck campers are very easily getting in. ⁃ Keep in mind, this is a rural location, so you may occasionally hear neighbors firing weapons in the distance. While it's not common, it can happen from time to time. (Especially during hunting season.) ⁃ You may come across wildlife during your stay. While issues and encounters with dangerous animals are extremely rare, it's always a good idea to be prepared by bringing basic first aid supplies and protective items like bear spray, and bug spray. ⁃ There is a Dollar General less than 15 minutes away in either direction for your basic needs. - everyday I'm working to improve this area, like picnic tables, defined camping spots, parking area, fire pits, stuff like that.

Having dug right in with the help of the Florida Forestry Service, FWC, IFAS, NRCS and a very knowledgeable private forester; we developed a conservation management plan to restore it to its native state. The neighboring land became available and happily added another 40, I've learned so much on this amazing journey. 25K pines and a great deal of sweat equity later, it is time to share and encourage others to join in on the conservation efforts and make sure it's around for future generations.
